Hello I am on the west coast and would be willing to participate! 🙋🏼♀️ I am on West Coast too and volunteer as a tribute I inquired to lemondrop via pm about the west coast trial but remembered those of us who got covid in the wild are excluded from those trials too. 😢 Also easier, she asked to PDQ, so could you poof?

Illinois friends: IDPH and Illinois BOE both released statements that they will follow the guidelines for schools the CDC released today.

Also willing to participate in a booster trial, but on east coast? I think that’s where I live.

in fairness though... 70k adult people in the US participated in the Pfizer and Moderna studies. More in the J&J, AZ, CureVac, Novavax studies (among others). People are just burnt the fuck out when it comes to Covid trials, especially when they did their part, and cases came down. I've heard multiple times that "it's someone else's turn" when it comes to boosters. And I can't fault anyone, I completely get it. But a lot of our boosters also require folks who got the vaccine right at the beginning - so like, Dec'20-Feb'21. A huge subset of the country got theirs March - May.

I think for the schools to adopt the CDc guidance they are going to have to require proof of vaccine. Which will be interesting and I think see a push for some towards homeschooling since they don’t want their child vaccinated but don’t want them masked either. That or it will push parents over the hesitance you vaccinate their child and they will get them vaccinated. There was a writing campaign this week (again) to not mandate vaccines for students 😪

My COVID anxiety has been creeping back up, and I'm really struggling now. Our district announced that lunch could return completely back to normal earlier in the week (for summer school and year round schools). So yeah, let's just sit kids shoulder to shoulder with no masks for 20 - 30 minutes and see what happens. I don't know what I'm going to do about it, and obviously I have way more options than most, but I cannot let DD do this. They were spaced 6+ feet at lunch all of last year and no talking while masks were off, so this is a huge swing.
This CDC guidance blows my mind. HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO JUST WAIT UNTIL ALL SCHOOL AGE KIDS HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE OPTION TO BE FULLY VAXXED??? I don't want my unvaccinated kid in a room with unvaccinated and unmasked teacher(s), and I know quite a few unvaccinated ones at our school who I don't trust not to suddenly be vaccinated.
I just...ahhhh...what are those of us who are working our asses off to keep our kids safe supposed to do until they can be vaccinated? Like this shouldn't be out of my control. If I don't want my kid to be around an unmasked and unvaccinated person at school or childcare, then I should be able to guarantee that. I don't let them spend time around unvaccinated family for even small periods of time. I sure as hell don't want them around unvaccinated adults all day.

doublestuf those are my thoughts exactly. I am so torn about what to do about school. They have not said what they will be doing for lunch here but I'm really hoping they will keep it like they did this past year.

Just saw that the Iowa state fair is going to be business as usual with zero masking or occupancy limitations. That just sounds like a nightmare to me. I barely tolerate the crowds there in a normal year. Our state hasn't even hit 50% fully vaccinated yet.
We got an email that my daughter's dance class is performing at the fair. Yeah, no. We are opting right out of that.

I haven't read anything but I am on the verge of a panic attack.
I just fucking unleashed on the director at my kids camp (same as school).
My oldest was maskless at pick up and my youngest had her mask so loose it didn't cover anything.
I'm going to have to pull them. They are crying because they want to stay in school and now I'm crying.

doublestuf It's infuriating. The way the CDC messaging has been done is giving entirely too much credit to the public. A great number of Americans are selfish assholes and kids are going to suffer yet again because of it.

I know they would never do it but I almost wish they could have one class per grade for the kids whose parents want them in masks. We have 8-9 classes per grade. I have no idea what goes in to deciding what kids go to what class so I'm sure its impossible but man it would be nice. Maybe it's flameful but 🤷🏻♀️ Since they won't be doing virtual anymore I feel like there is no good choice for people who want to be cautious still. It freaking sucks.

cdc keeps playing the game that if they say hey you don't have to wear a mask anymore if you are vaccinated so everybody will run out and get vaccinated, but what happens is everybody hears you don't have to wear a mask anymore.

Yeah, do they not see how badly that backfired for the adults? The same will happen with the kids. Kids don't wear masks here anymore anyways and the schools can't mandate it so it wouldn't have made a difference here, but it's infuriating for those whose schools were still following the guidelines.

I am planning on going myself but I don’t think I will with the kids.

Sorry about the quote lemondrop and thanks Admin for editing. I’m not in LA unfortunately and I got my first shot in March, so not helpful I guess. I’m so sorry DavidRose and everyone struggling with school decisions. Kids and families just continue to be jerked around and left to fend for themselves. 😕
