I agree with the sentiment of no one giving a shit about kids right now, but I don't understand why they're saying it's endless and no light at the end of the tunnel? Mid-fall is my light at the end of the tunnel when there are vaccines for 5-12 year-olds available. Even if you have younger kids, hopefully by the end of 2021? I'm not trying to be snarky, if it's that that is still a long time to wait, I agree. But I feel like I'm missing something. ETA: and I'm speaking to the situation in the US since the person specifically said that. Sorry to all our friends further afield who are on a different timeline. For me, yes, mid-fall still feels very far away. I had convinced myself that it was probably fine to send the kids to in person school bc we have really great vaccination rates locally (also, I don't really have a choice!! Lolsob!) but Delta is really unsettling me.

For me, yes, mid-fall still feels very far away. Fair enough. I have been mostly offline for 3-4 days so I didn't know if something came out about the timelines getting pushed back or that something new has come up with kids vaccines. I feel like I've already gone through the stage of grief that tweet is in and now I just have my head down, doing the outdoor summer thing because I know nothing is changing in our family's lives for the next two months.

I think “no light at the end of the tunnel” also means “no support for parents now or on the horizon” because society seems to have decided kids and families don’t matter so long as adults can go to bars and restaurants and shop with naked faces and yell in a crowd at sports players. Like I sort of see the light as far as getting DS vaccinated, but otherwise I feel totally abandoned by my country and state and society at large. And I don’t see that changing any time soon, really.

I think it’s just the feeling more than anything. I already feel like people are like “covid is done” and then I look at my kid and I’m like …. Well.
Like even if it’s go for vaccines for his age on 9/1, he still has 4-6 weeks until fully vaccinated and will have already been back to school since mid August. If places are already not masking, I really don’t think they will be in Sept/Oct. So it feels like I still have to keep him fairly locked down.
We were camping this weekend so he largely went sans mask and today when I was dropping him off at camp I was like “remember you HAVE to wear your mask ALL THE TIME”. Lol. Poor kid probably has whiplash.

I think it’s just the feeling more than anything. That I can understand. For me, summer is feeling so much more free - even with my kids not going anywhere public indoors. Having easy, fun outdoor options in a place where we didn't have anything but super limited options for kids from like October-April is such a step forward. I have Friday afternoons off in the summer. We've all been home as a family of 4 together since March 2020. Having things like outdoor pools and small backyard gatherings is still kind of a revelation for us. And our school doesn't go back until mid-September so I'm hoping it's only a month before they're vaccinated. All factors that are probably different for other folks.

I think basically I'm just overjoyed it's not the winter anymore, lol. That’s fair 😂 It was really nice to feel comfortable taking a family vacay that was almost entirely outdoors and away from crowds. Man, did we need that.

For our beach vacation, we usually rent a condo, but I told H that there was no way of that this year. All of those people, elevators, etc! We also go out to eat almost every night. Instead, we rented a house and plan on cooking most nights. I am still on the fence about going to the boardwalk for rides. Would it be weird to give DD a wipe to use when she sits down? 🤔

klw, I'd probably go to the Boardwalk at off times. And remember that you're at the beach where the wind is probably blowing. I'd carry masks with us in case it got more crowded outdoors than I was comfortable with. I wouldn't worry with wipes since spread that way is so small. But, I'd do lots of hand sanitizer and wash hands good upon returning home. But really do whatever lets you relax and enjoy your vacation. Eff everyone's judge-y thoughts.

doublestuf thanks...that is a good idea about the off times. I just remember that we did go during the day one time just as a mid week break from the Beach. It was definitely less crowded. Definitely bringing some masks and I always keep spares for each of us in my bag.

Well per the at home test, DS is negative. So he likes has some croupy bug and the smoke triggered it, since he’s acting a little more sick today. At least I don’t have to worry so much with ILs watching him. The test was expensive (I didn’t realize this brand only had one), but at least I’ve got some peace of mind.

Hiking has been a sanity saver here. Camping is out due to allergies, but a day hike is good.

I have dreams of getting an Aliner for camping, something light enough for my SUV to pull, protect us better while camping, and I'm getting to old for tent camping. Its small but should be enough for me and my girls. We saw a couple cool ones at the campsite this weekend. It looks like a great set up. You know how people like to look at house? I like to peep on other people’s camping set ups. Lol

For the first time in a year we aren’t getting hammered with death claims. It’s such a mental lift. I haven’t even had to process the claims but the tension has been so heavy.
