DavidRose I’d be raging too. More at the camp than the kids. Idk if it’s an option for you but we’re keeping DS home this summer because we don’t trust anyone.

I know basically everyone is past this but I'm getting my vaccine!!! Just waiting in line now. Then all adults in my family will have at least 1 shot and everybody (adult) but me will have both shots by end of July!

This morning I got my first, in the wild, “take that mask off your baby, he can’t breathe” comments at Target!
I told her to go fuck herself as soon as my H and M were vaguely out of earshot, but seriously, fuck that lady.
Here is my 2 year old, wearing a mask better than almost 50% of North Carolinians.

Also I'm fascinated by this system. It would never work in the US. It's based on so much trust.
I signed up online for my shot. I just picked an available day and they gave me the time. It was sent via text. I show up and everyone is outside milling about waiting for their appointment time to be called. Nobody ever checked my text, my name or anything before I got to the doctor & nurse. Everyone is just waiting patiently for their time to be called. Like you could just walk in.
And they are even running behind. People are like ok I'll go get a coffee while i wait. I'm always baffled by the nonchalance about time the Portuguese have lol. Once I got inside it flew though. In 8 minutes they went from number 216 to my number 243.
Now I'm sitting here eyeing the cookies and espresso machine while i wait for no side effects 🤞

OMG lemondrop that makes my blood boil. 100% would have said something to that dumbass too. I would say mask usage is about 20% here, even at Harris Teeter...sigh. My almost 3 year old lost his shit at Lowes this weekend, ripped off his mask, and I panicked. Fortunately H was with me, so he and I made a quick exit. It took me almost an hour to shake the bad feeling though. Your little guy is 😍!

doublestuf we went to the Bass Pro today in Cary and it was probably 5% masked, even the kids were going without 😭 I’m trying to not be panicky, but this is ridic. The Delta variant is freaking me out so much, especially with so many people choosing to go unmasked and unvaccinated around here.

My kid starts camp today. It's the first time she'll be in a group with other kids since March 2020. I'm nervous.

With the delta variant and more people testing positive it seems like with the vaccine how do we ever go back to “normal”. I can’t imagine the rest of our lives going on with quarantines and isolation. I’m honestly afraid of the economic and mental health impact of that. It’s just so hard to wrap my head around because it feels like every time I’m optimistic that something happens and we are sliding backwards.

I am harping on my kids a lot because I don't trust anyone at this point. I want them to wear the mask without having to rely on the teachers to remind them. I'm saving for their future therapy because I'm sure I'm traumatizing them. But I must not have been the only person to say something because the pictures we got the next day showed almost all the kids masked. It would be really hard to keep them home but if things get out of control here then I have a plan to take a leave or reduce my hours. This all sucks so much.

The problem is we need to get ahead of variants with vaccination. Delta sucks. It really does. Our numbers are doubling again and our hospitalizations are going up, but that's because we haven't had time to vaccinate as many people. We have to push and incentivise more people to get vaccinated. If 70% of your area is vaccinated Delta doesn't have enough bodies to spread easily. If you are in a low vax area, for whatever reason (politics or access) then we have to push for a little longer to get as many vaccinated to prevent stronger variants so we can break the pandemic cycle. It will end. And it does suck. I'm so tired of it all. My mental health is barely keeping it together, but we can do the damn thing.

It's so incredibly frustrating, and vaccines can STOP this. We're lucky right now that the vaccines we have are doing their job against the Delta variant (by, in general, keeping people from dying), but we need to avoid the possibility of having a variant that can bypass the vaccine. And the selfishness of *many but not all* people in the United States is a big reason why this is still a possibility. *of course there are reasons why people cannot get a vaccine/ feel uncomfortable getting a vaccine.

I’m breathing into a paper bag now. We just got back from visiting my family in Iowa, and while we were diligent while traveling, there were times my kids were unmasked like eating breakfast and swimming in the pool. I let my guard down, and this tweet has me scared. My son has a cough/wheeezing and I’m 99% sure it’s from inhaling sparkler smoke since it started immediately after, but now I’m doubting myself. I’m going to look up those at home tests to at least put my mind at ease

I'm so anxious about the delta variant. We traveled last week to KC and it has me worried since MO is a hot spot. We were careful and the kids wore masks indoors everywhere and DH and I wore them indoors in public. We did go out to eat twice which was beyond my comfort level but one time we ate outside and the other I had the kids keep their masks on except for when actively eating.
We didn't wear masks outdoors but I feel more comfortable with that. We went to the amusement park one day and it was lightly raining a lot of the day so I figured even if they wore masks they would just get wet. And thankfully the rain helped keep the crowds down. We also played in the outdoor hotel pool but they required reservations and there was never more than 12 people including our group. I actually felt like KC was taking more precautions than Iowa. Still very few people in masks though.
I'm just going to keep trying to stick to outdoor activities as much as possible and continue to wear masks indoors if we have to go in anywhere. Trying to enjoy the summer as much as we can while numbers are still low here. I may need to up my anxiety meds though, lol.

Since we are ranting. This thread basically captures my feelings. I agree with the sentiment of no one giving a shit about kids right now, but I don't understand why they're saying it's endless and no light at the end of the tunnel? Mid-fall is my light at the end of the tunnel when there are vaccines for 5-12 year-olds available. Even if you have younger kids, hopefully by the end of 2021? I'm not trying to be snarky, if it's that that is still a long time to wait, I agree. But I feel like I'm missing something. ETA: and I'm speaking to the situation in the US since the person specifically said that. Sorry to all our friends further afield who are on a different timeline.

I'm sorry ldubhawksfan, I didn't mean to frighten you or anyone else by sharing that Twitter thread. No it’s ok. Because I needed waken up a bit; I’ve not followed the delta variant much since getting vaccinated. It’s easy on a vacation to let yourself be too lax, and I really hope my kids (and us I guess) weren’t exposed. At least my son had covid in January, so hopefully some immunity naturally is better than nothing. I went and bought at home tests over lunch.

nelzie my brother is coming from MO next week for 2 weeks. He’s vaccinated and all adults he is visiting here are as well. My kids are the only ones who aren’t. He lives near Columbia so he’s not in a super hot spot area of the state but I’m still nervous.

The reality is that now so many aren’t getting tested, and there isn’t contact tracing happening, who knows if we were exposed really. Unless one of my family members has obvious symptoms, but rando person at the hotel? I would never know. Again, for my son, I’m 99% sure it’s the smoke that triggered an asthma or croup like throat irritation. But for my peace of mind, I’m going to throw down $40 to check. PSA: it’s $9 cheaper online through CVS, and they won’t price match their online, so if you too want to have a pack with your emergency HPT, order it online! 🤣

Bunch of ostriches.
