I finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue last night. It was so good 5 stars. I didn’t want it to end. Next is The Year of the Witching.

I finished Malibu Rising. Definitely liked it better than Daisy Jones, but it really dragged for me in the middle. Overall I think the first half was much stronger.

The Secret Bridesmaid is so cute. I’m halfway through and unless it goes totally left in the next half I’d definitely recommend for rom com readers. Royal adjacent as well of that interests you.

i just finished malibu rising and byjove i had the exact same reaction to it. good, but definitely dragged for me in the middle. i also finished paper ghosts by julia haeberlin which i likes but don’t feel like it was as strong as black eyed susans or we are all the same in the dark. just about finished listening to class mom. it’s a quick listen and fairly entertaining. not my normal pick but it has been on my tbr forever. about to start the once and future witches by alix harrow. a completely random library book. i have zero expectations.

The Book of Eels: Our Enduring Fascination with the Most Mysterious Creature in the Natural World by Patrik Svensson was good. It’s a mix of memoir and nature writing. It was a little too heavy on the memoir at the end for me but overall I enjoyed it. Except the chapter on Freud. I learned a bunch of cool stuff about eels. They’re so weird and amazing. It sent me on a couple mini spirals too. Like Ming the Clam who was 507 years old. And Steller’s Sea Cows. I have lots of random new nature facts to throw at my friends. Eta: a pic because I liked the cover art so much that it moved it higher up on my to read list

I’m going to start Adirondack: Life and Wildlife in the Wild, Wild East by Edward Kanze because I’m vacationing in the Adirondacks and I love a good theme.

There were huge Pacific long-finned eels in the stream near where I did my grad school research. We’d take lab visitors to feed them canned anchovies. They are so weird and cool!

I can’t remember when I updated last but I read three books in the last week.
Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson. I like his writing and enjoy reading about Boston, but it wasn’t his strongest. It did hold my interest though and I missed a big twist so I still give it a solid 4 stars.
Girl A by Abigail Dean. This book was so good! Horribly disturbing wrt child abuse but very well done.
A Familiar Sight by Brianna Labuskes. This was a prime first read. I liked the story but hated the way it was told. It jumped between two characters but one was in the present and the other basically started at the present and then worked back to years before. It got confusing. I also didn’t like the main character and this is #1 of a new series of books with her. Lastly it was redundant in a few parts. Like a sentence would be written and then the exact same one would be a few pages after. The story has a ton of potential though.
I’m reading The Girl From Widow Hills next.

It took me forever to get through Hostage. For a book about a hostage crisis on a airplane, it was kind of slow. The last 50 pages had about a billion twists, all of which surprised me, but up until that part, I was fairly bored.
I’m going to read Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris next. It’s been on my TBR list forever.

I'm always so impressed by how much you all can read in a month. I finished two books in June and that felt like a huge accomplishment, lol.
In June I finished: Pet by Akwaeke Emezi *** Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler *****
I abosolutely loved Parable of the Sower and bought the companion book but might need to wait a minute before reading it a Sower was eerily prescient and heavy.

I got The Enigma Game and read it in a day. It was good, better than The Pearl Thief but not as good as Rose Under Fire.
I actually did a quick reread of Code Name Verity before my Enigma hold came up and it's even more wonderful the second time.

I just finished a new release, Falling, and I LOVED IT. Five stars for me. It's about a pilot who is forced to choose between crashing the plane he's flying and killing all the innocent passengers, or his family being murdered. It was super fast paced and read like a classic action movie. I'm waiting for this one at the library! I finished The Drowning Kind and thought it was excellent. I'm finishing Gory Details now. I am listening to Padma Lakshmi's autobiography from a few years ago and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm about 80% through Addie LaRue, and I'm also loving it. Finished Year of Yes. Shonda Rhimes reads the audio, so it was great. Felt more like a memoir than a self help. I enjoy both genres, to be fair. I started Nothing to See Here on audio. I'm only 10% in, but it grabbed me quickly.

I finally got the newest Maisie Dobbs and started it this morning. I have a long flight tomorrow in the morning and the evening so I will probably get quite a bit of reading in, maybe finish Siege and Storm.

I'm a quarter through "Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor: Being the First Jane Austen Mystery"- where Jane Austen stars in a murder mystery, apparently inspired by some obscure journal entries she had written. Idk. I can't make much progress because I read 5 pages and fall asleep. I have this and 2 other books due back to the library in 9 days... and I may have to abort. The others are One by One and The Inheritance Games.
I'm also half way through "The Perfect Find" by Tia Williams on audio. It's set in 2012 and about a WOC fashion writer at 40 trying to make a life comeback. It's fun and entertaining so far.

In order to keep myself busy this weekend I finished Sunkissed which I enjoyed. Also Pack Up The Moon. I liked it but the ending was abrupt also.

I finally finished Act Your Age, Eve Brown. I wanted to love it but I didn't. It was okay but definitely my least favorite of the three.
I have no clue what to read next.

Has anyone read the series by Elena Ferrante? I remember my aunt really enjoyed them, but sometimes she and I don't agree. The whole series is $3.99 on Amazon. Wondering if I should use my credits to buy them.
