Jen announces that POTUS will sign bills this afternoon, one creating three new mental health centers for veterans, another cracking down on predatory lending. He will also hold a summit on eviction prevention.

The Surfside collapse is directly in my professional wheel house, based on everything I have seen/heard/read it really appears that the root cause will be lack of/deferred Maintenance by the HOA in a very hostile (salt water) environment with a few other factors thrown in that just accelerated everything.
It’s really interesting because the north building is its own HOA and is very conservatively and proactively maintained(at significant owner expense) and exhibits none of the pre-collapse damages the collapsed building exhibited. Not to discount global warming or anything but any building not maintained properly will eventually have structural problems.

Phylicia Rashad is tweeting about "miscarriages of justice being corrected." So I'm going to be logging off of Twitter for the day.

Peter Alexander asks about Afghan citizens who helped the US during the mission in Afghanistan. Jen says they are working on expediting the immigration process for those people and even moving them elsewhere to safety while their cases are processed.
The House made a move on that yesterday on a broadly bipartisan basis and I hope the Senate gets it to POTUS' desk very soon.

why is Doocey bringing up the Omar/Israel/Hamas thing again? Did she say something else? Jen seems to think not since she clarified her meaning.
He's also upset that Republicans who voted against the ARP have been accused of defunding the police. Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny violin.

Also go Jen 'actions speak louder than words'
ALSO ALSO I'm pretty sure not allowing a bipart cmte on 1/6 where actual police were beaten, calling it a happy family tourist walk thru, seems to point to they really dont care about police.
(I know thats a stretch /s)

Their office has been swamped with calls from buildings they have and haven't worked with and they are all like we want a guarantee our building won't fall down. And it's like, well, doesn't work like that, but we can come assess the condition of your building and help you plan for repairs...

April Ryan rightly asks whether ending qualified immunity risks bankrupting police departments, Jen basically replies that reform is way past due and good cops don't have to worry about law suits

I don't understand how he was always there under Covid restrictions. It seemed like the wires and networks had someone in the room every day though? Under normal circumstances they have assigned seats. Off the top of my head the front row is NBC, Fox News, CBS, Reuters, AP, ABC, CBS. I think that's right?

Politico is like a dog with a bone on this July 4th gathering at the White House. They really want to equate it to the Rose Garden superspreader event when nobody was vaccinated. It's tiresome.

The San Francisco Bay Area is in a world of hurt with climate change and rising sea levels as well. Namely some of our key infrastructure- SFO and OAK airports will be underwater in the future if something isn’t done soon. There’s also a good amount of housing that might be at risk and I don’t know that developers are forced to reckon with that even with new developments. So much of the Bay Area is built on filled-in wetlands. So the ground is already prone to liquefaction close to the shore, which of course is where the multistory condo buildings end up. H is enough of an engineer and city planner that we would always consider that stuff when we were looking for apartments. Especially when we were in Alameda. One big earthquake and a big chunk of that island is going back into the Bay. 😬

This is why people are talking about Rep Omar again.
I quickly grabbed this so the tweet sharing the interview is on one side. I can think of some instances where what she said is not expressly anti Semitic but it’s not my first instinct to be honest and given her past comments I’m getting pretty leery about her motivations. I hope she clarifies and that the clarification helps. But…this doesn’t look great in the context of the question asked by Tapper.

jaygee, I feel the same. I’ve been a big fan of Rep. Omar’s, but I do think she has some anti semitism leanings lately. It’s very disappointing.
