I can’t find it anywhere that mentions if the child care provisions of Biden’s original proposal are in the infrastructure deal. Does that mean it’s gone?

I can’t find it anywhere that mentions if the child care provisions of Biden’s original proposal are in the infrastructure deal. Does that mean it’s gone? What I read is that there is a bipartisan infrastructure agreement but that is running in tandem with a more progressive reconciliation bill that focuses on social infrastructure. Essentially, they'll do what they can with the GOP on traditional infrastructure and then do other stuff via reconciliation. Pelosi has said the House won't take up the bipartisan bill until the Senate votes on the reconciliation. I don't think I've seen a summary of a reconciliation bill yet.

I’m glad it hasn’t been totally scrapped, I would have been really disappointed if it had.

My god. That last post / tweet made me want to vomit. Fuck anyone that was / is connected to these residential schools and these killings.
Humanity is terrible.

How absolutely devastating.
It makes me wonder how many would be found if searches were done at the boarding schools in the U.S.

Deb Haaland announced yesterday (the day before? recently anyway) that she's planning on conducting an investigation into indigenous boarding schools within the US. Eta: or what richard said

I spoke about it on the Canadian thread, but the ‘discoveries’ aren’t shocking. There are thousands more bodies, some of which will never be recovered. People’s surprise and disbelief feels like a slap in the face to a lot of Indigenous families who’ve always known and been vocal about this. America has the same blood on their hands. I hope people think about what their country is built on when they ‘celebrate’ Canada Day and the 4th of July.
I’m a settler as well so I don’t mean to sound holier than thou and my anger isn’t isn’t directed to anyone specific here. I’m just real mad and sad about it all.

Excuse this post, because I'm real up in my feelings about this. I swear on the grave of my father, so help me God, I will never again step foot in a Roman Catholic Church. I am ashamed to have ever been called Catholic. I'm horrified that I was unaware of these abuses, because in the Church, bad things are swept under rugs and hidden. This Church has committed the worst of abuses, and are the worst of humanity. If I prayed anymore, I would wish every hope upon hope that the Church would burn to the ground.
The hypocrisy of acting Godly and as though they are without sin, while they abused and tortured children. I'll cast this first stone, because I own my sins. Fuck the Roman Catholic Church.

I’m right there with you lemondrop. Both Mh and I have been struggling with this as well. Its infuriating. Between this and the refusing communion to politicians who support abortion and all the refusing to adopt children to gay couples, this is not a church I want to continue to belong to. It’s disgusting and gut wrenching.

Those involved at the schools must be held responsible (if still living; I know the schools operated for over 100 years.) and I do think the church bears a very large share of the blame and responsibility. That said, I hope that the church doesn't become the scapegoat and the government gets away without owning their part in it. The church is not the only guilty party here.
ETA: This goes for here in the U.S., too, when the inevitable horrific discoveries are made.

Pence rebukes Trump regarding election certification Without mentioning Trump by name, Pence said there are "those in our party" who believe that "any one person" could select the president. "Truth is, there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president," he said. link

I was hoping for a little better news on the inflation front - hopefully things will cool down soon. Otherwise this will most certainly play a role in the nearest elections IMO. ... Prices rose yet again in May and a key measure of inflation hit new multi-year highs. The price index tracking personal consumption expenditure, or PCE, climbed 3.9% in the year ending May, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Friday. It was the highest level since August 2008 and exceeded April's 3.6% level.... link

Ok this tweet is funny, but being on this side of it all and realizing how close we were to out and out martial law is terrifying. I don't like having our freedom rest on one army general even though he upheld his duty to the highest. What if it were Flynn. Ugh.

So our area is in a hiring crisis. We are a shore town, so usually have tons of seasonal jobs. This year places, rides, arcades are closed because they can’t find people to work. In the past the majority of those jobs were held by high school kids. Literally it was turn 16 and work at the boardwalk/beach. I don’t know what the actual answer is. My friends went to the boardwalk and half the rides/games were closed because of lack of staff. I live in Wisconsin, and my town is hosting the Ryder Cup on September. We've hosted the PGA in years past and the entire city is overrun with tourists when golf is in town. I just don't see how the bars/restaurants are going to keep up because everyone is hurting for help.

There’s definitely survivors and descendants still living. Oh absolutely. I just meant that some people can't be prosecuted because they're long dead. The ones still living need to be held responsible. ETA: In the US, parents couldn't even legally refuse to send their kids to the boarding schools until the late 70's. This definitely isn't ancient history. I didn't meant to imply it was and I am sincerely sorry I did.
