What’s happening this week? What’s in your cup?

I had half-caff cold brew with maple syrup and frothed milk. It was delicious. I have the big kids for school (3.5 days left!) so I am now sitting and listening to the teacher for the second to last time! Actually, the last time, since A will be home with them on Wednesday. Woah.
Relatedly, today I'm editing my stream-of-consciousness end of year letter to their teacher who I admire so much. I will also edit it differently and send it to the superintendent and principal, because she deserves all the praise to everyone. H is working on a card for her.
I'm having Feelings.

The girls woke me up at 5:30 proudly announcing they are FOUR! I convinced them to go play quietly in their room for another 30 minutes while I dragged my self to the coffee maker. I have a big deadline tonight so I'll be working into the wee hours. Blah. And moving day is 1 week from now so I need to figure out how to find time to pack this week too.

I apparently left a whole cup's worth of coffee in the carafe yesterday, so that's getting nuked for my first cup I'll making myself another pot for later.
Only one client today, but it's a new one, so that always makes me a little nervous to stay with someone new.
The rest of the day will be catching up on instructor training and then prepping for an interview I have tomorrow for a business job (!).

It’s red white and blue day at school today. MIL bought these kinda over the top flag dresses for the girls but they loved them so much. Good thing this is the perfect occasion to wear them. R has 8 days of school left then we head out on our 2 week Midwest roadtrip. I’m so excited to get out of the house and explore some national parks. We’ll hit 6 over the 2 weeks.
We had college friends+their kids over for dinner last night. First time since covid. It felt soooo good. The girls had a blast, the friends brought all the meat from her parents local deli, and it felt 90% normal. We already made plans to do it again in a few weeks.

Hey hi, hello. It’s my lone day off in the middle of five 10 hour work days. I got to sleep in until 7 and was hoping for a nice day, but it’s chilly and raining. I had tea with almond milk a while ago. I have to jet out and grab a few staples from the grocery store soon.

I’m working. Blah blah. I’m already out of coffee.
DS1 has soccer camp this week. I am packing a ton of ice water & Gatorade along with protein snacks. I worry about the kids getting overheated.
@criscosalad 4?!?! Unbelievable.

Coffee, milk, and sugar.
I have egg bites and salad greens in the fridge. It’s a 4 day work week. But I need to get meeting invites out and a power point thrown together.
Plus update my training.
I’m looking for some nonexistent motivation.

mc13 a national park road trip? So fun! Yes! Trying to vacation but also avoid big crowds. Heading the northern route from NY to ND/MT/WY then looping down through SD, IA, NE, KS, MO and back up through OH to home.

You guys. My kids are gone. At sleep away camp. Till Friday. My house is soooo quiet. I’m at the office today on my first cup of Keurig coffee with almond milk creamer. A few big meetings this week so anxious. But no groceries, no meal plan, no real plans. Just winging it like a couple of child-free grown adults this week. Eeeek!

I had drip coffee with half and half and vanilla syrup this morning. I have therapy tonight, but no other big plans for the week. Weekend was good but I wasn’t very productive. We went to some local gardens and I somehow hurt my foot just walking on uneven terrain. Went to a baseball game with friends last night. It was fun but really hot. I hope this week goes fast, because vacation is next week!

I just stalked a house that is going on the market today.
Like, just had the sign put up.
We might be desperate.
However, I don’t think it’s what we are looking for, we really want our own master bathroom. This one may only have 2 bathrooms.

mc13, up through OH you say? I know a cute little village in OH with a cute little pig. I'm joining the bad back club today. My lower back started hurting over a week ago and last Friday, I pinched something in my neck that hurt enough, combined with the lower back not getting better, for me to call a chiropractor. Unlike when this happened previously, this guy insisted on xrays. He adjusted me Friday and sent me off for imaging. I did that and had my follow up this morning. They had sent me home with a CD of the images, but I didn't bother pulling out my CD drive to try to look at them. So, I had my appointment this morning and the doctor went through the xrays with me. You guys. My back is way not what a spine is supposed to look like. Like, it's straight where it should curve and curves where it should be straight. It does not stack up nicely like vertebrae are supposed to. I was shocked. He didn't even really have to point things out, just pulled up the image and I gasped. He did the neck adjustments today and it didn't fix whatever is pinched under my shoulder blade. It still hurts if I move the wrong way. On Wednesday we'll address the lower back thing that still hurts. He's sending my images off to a guy who specializes in corrective work who will give us a clear path of things to do to try and straighten things. I'm feeling a lot of feelings about this. It was pretty shocking. He didn't seem shocked though, so I guess it's not as world ending as it feels to me. I play an instrument known for being very unkind to backs and shoulders, but this feels like doom. Like, another nail in the coffin of me ever playing more than just a little as a hobby. While I keep paying the students loans from years of conservatory. And of course I have to keep doing all the bending and picking up and turning and twisting and jumping up out of my chair to deal with kids and will never ever have time to relax and rest. Oh, and Frankie came after me again on my way to the car. Stupid rooster. I wasn't wearing my red shoes.

violajack ugh that sucks! I would definitely make sure you see an orthopedic that specializes in spines. I love my chiro but wouldn’t necessary consider his word as gospel. Chirps tend to be more holistic but my spine needs an orthopedic IMO. I hope you get help and improvement in pain quickly.

Thanks tj, I'll look into that too. I think that might be who he's passing off the xrays to. He said we can get started with treatment now, but he'd like to have the additional feedback on the images and course of treatment. This place was recommended when I tried to set up an appointment with a more wholistic chiropractic practice in town. It's a spine and injury clinic and they work with lawyers, long term disability, chronic pain, as well as injuries. I apparently have some scoliosis, which was the most shocking part as they do those screenings when you're a kid and nothing came up. I thought that was a thing happened as you grow and was caught and fixed in the teen years. But he said it's like getting braces as an adult to straighten teeth. It's a different, slower process and you won't get as far because things are done growing, but it can still be corrected to an extent. Today, I got to do some exercises to get my neck to bend again. It's completely straight, or even slightly curved the wrong way, and doesn't bend at all when I look up. The last joint under my skull is apparently doing all the work. The exercises felt really good.

I've been rear ended a few times, but I was too young and broke with crappy insurance and no time to pursue anything. Also, I felt fine. But he confirmed that that's likely what's up with my neck. He pointed out a specific vertebrae that wasn't lined up and said I probably damaged a ligament there.
But then, my thoracic and lumbar spine curves sideways and twists and my hip is off level, but the opposite way he would expect based on the spine curve. At least my lumbar curve looked good. He gave me points for that one. I mean, finding out you have scoliosis at 40 is a bit of a shocker, especially when it's so obvious on the xray he doesn't even have to point it out first. I guess that's why I used to be 5'6" and now I'm 5'5" unless I try really hard to straighten up.
The neck exercise was using a stretch band behind my neck, pulling forward with my arms, and looking up to stretch and encourage the middle of my neck to flex back.

We had a nice morning outside, but C woke up from her nap with a fever and runny nose. Nobody else is sick and she hasn't left the house since we went to the beach a few weeks ago. She also vomited up the Advil I gave her and I wasn't sure if I could give Tylenol or Advil again, so I spent an hour on hold with the nurse line. I'm really hoping the rest of us don't get whatever she has. I got N a bike with training wheels and MH went to pick it up, so we'll be outside again this afternoon. Right now C is napping again and the big kids are watching Puffin Rock. violajack, I'm so sorry about the news about your back. I hope the treatment plan helps.

And I need to search Facebook for some recommendations. But I’m still actively watching our neighborhood. We have larger plots of land and a wide variety of models from the 60’s and 70’s and a lot have been added on.

I got this "sweet cream" creamer that I've been enjoying in my coffee lately. Had that and pizza for breakfast lol. We might go look at some houses this week - I'm actually being an adult and contacting people about the programs that are available for first time home buyers. There are two that we're interested in, both in a neighborhood literally across the street from hubby's work. One is larger and cheaper and needs work. The other is smaller and more expensive but fully finished and move in ready. Either would cut our housing expenses in almost half. I also finally met our new neighbor today, she's got 3 kids (an almost 1 year old, a 4 year old, and a 6 year old) and I've been wanting to say hi, but I was being awkward lol. They were outside today when I was out with F and the little boy was throwing a bowl at his sister and I told him he should probably stop. He went and told his mom and she came out to say thank you and brought some freezies and then all of the sudden the kids were playing and we were chatting for an hour lol

Our immediate neighbours had a 2 story addition built just before we moved in. It's my dream to add a second story to our house, so if you guys go for it I'll be following along!

I had instant Vietnamese coffee at home before rushing out the door to get L to VBS. There was amazingly no traffic so we were early. I'm trying to change my habit of being late so today was a win! I then got a Panera iced coffee bc summer heat is already here. I ran errands and went to the park with only J while L was having the time of her life at VBS. I hope every morning the rest of this week goes as smoothly.

I switched to tea on weekdays, so I had a peach white tea. Last week of school! If I survived teaching through the pandemic, I can get through this last week, right? (That’s what I keep telling myself, but I’m still not convinced.) I’m beyond fried. There’s a lot of stuff going on with my parents that’s more stressful than school. I’m completely worn out. I’m so looking forward to Friday night when I can make a big bowl of popcorn and snuggle on the couch with the kids watching the new Pixar movie with the whole summer in front of us.
