Telegraph fire in az appears to have overtaken my sons s/o's family ranch. They did not evacuate in time when they were told to evacuate and take the animals and refused offers from other ranchers to move the cows etc. Most recent info is they say they are hanging with the fire crews. Arg Oh, no! I hope they are safe and the animals can be saved. It is hazy here in the Valley today. I hope we have a real monsoon season this year so it's not so dry. Its so hazy that we might not hit 120

AmyG , I'm really sorry to hear it. We were in Mesa and could see the smoke from the fires. The fire on the Superstition Mountains was really close. Actually, our hotel was a bit of a command center. There was all of the special green forest service fire trucks parked there.

AmyG, I'm so sorry for your son's s/o and her grandparents. And for all the poor animals. I guess I don't really understand in my heart how people can refuse evacuation notices and put those they're responsible for, including animals, and first responders at risk. I get that people never think it's going to happen to them, and people want to take care of their own home until the last minute, but when an order comes down....

I’m actually a little surprised that one of them from Hawley and co didn’t vote against.

I’m sorry AmyG. That’s terrifying and infuriating. The fire crews need people to evacuate when they’re told to so they can fight the fire effectively. I hope they leave soon.

AmyG I'm sorry! That's so scary for the s/o, and sad for the animals.

I’m actually a little surprised that one of them from Hawley and co didn’t vote against. Probably just so they can later say "See? I'm not racist, I voted in favor of making Junteenth a national holiday." 🙄

I’m actually a little surprised that one of them from Hawley and co didn’t vote against. IIRC the same resolution was blocked by RonJohn last June

AmyG That’s a scary situation. I hope they’re able to get out and get to family soon. This summer is going to be hard with wildfires. It’s been so hot already and it seems like there are multiple new ones each day.

This heat wave is hitting the West. I saw that Denver has some cooling stations available for people to go for some respite from the heat. Salt Lake hit a record high with 107 degrees for today. The power companies were recommending trying to set thermostats at 78 to help alleviate the power grid workload.

I can’t count on the last pic, but did any of the R senators attend? I counted 22 people, so 21 senators attended. According to Twitter (because I can't identify most on my own) it appears a few R's did attend. Sinema, however, did not attend. 🤔

To help with demand on power in AZ we have a smart thermostat and are on a plan to not use as much power between 3 and 6pm that is a heavy demand time. They can also take control of our smart thermostat and turn our ac to a higher temp by a couple of degrees if az gets into a bad place. SRP suggests that we precool the house by a couple of degrees before the 3pm time period, so ac will run less often during those hours. but we did experiment and we actually use less power overall and also during those times if we precool the house by a couple of degrees lower than normal at nights and early morning. So seems like they could do some of that kind of encouraging mixing up electric use time periods of the day more rather than just setting the thermostat randomly higher. AZ usually does well on our electric power grid since we make so much electricity for other states, with hydroelectric with SRP and Palo Verde with APS.

AmyG We do a similar thing to precool but without AC. I shut all windows and blinds by 7:30 am and then fully open back up around 6/7 pm. The house stays mostly cool but that 3-7 afternoon period can get hot in the kitchen. Did you have to sign up for a special program to allow them to adjust your smart thermostat if needed?
