Illinois, including Chicago, moving to Phase 5 - full reopening - Friday, June 11. ....Phase 5 will remove capacity limits and restrictions on all sectors of the economy, with "businesses, schools and recreation resuming normal operations with new safety guidance and procedures," according to state officials..... linkGahhhh this is terrifying. No worries, I upped my anxiety meds yesterday 👍🏼

No worries, I upped my anxiety meds yesterday 👍🏼 Well, there's a caveat if certain numbers start getting bad, the state and/or city could move back a phase or two. The state was going for June 11 for a while now - I really wasn't sure how Lightfoot could hold the city's date back if the numbers kept getting better. I hope you feel better soon. www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/chicago-phase-5-what-will-change-in-the-weeks-ahead/ar-AAKGjpl?ocid=uxbndlbing

I get so annoyed when I read about the politicians calling for Fauci to be fired or even charged and put into jail. I need to stay off SM. I am really upset about the criticism of Fauci. He has worked tirelessly for this country for decades, but especially for the last year and a half. We owe him so much. I, like, most of the United States, had no idea who he was before 2020. But now that I have learned everything he has done for public health, I consider him an American hero.

This thread sums up a lot of my feelings and concerns. I appreciate you sharing this. It’s validating for us parents who are still being really careful to protect our kids. I’m going to share it with my friend who just yesterday asked me about a situation to make sure she wasn’t being over the top. I think lots of us are feeling pressured to ease up and let family visit our little ones or take them out in public more etc. and then getting pushback when we want to have limits or safety measures in place... so this is helpful.

My county health department switched to only announcing case numbers once a week instead of daily. Last week there was only 9 total, so I can see why they didn't see it was necessary, but every week I'm anxiously waiting for Friday to make sure there wasn't a random surge again...

That thread sums up a lot of my feelings too especially that 2nd tweet. Children are NOT SUPPOSED TO DIE. My gosh.
I feel like a crazy person because most places I go there are maybe 10% of people wearing masks. And in most places me and my children are the only ones in masks. I rarely see children in masks and they obviously aren't vaccinated.

nelzie It drives me crazy. I don't trust the adults around me in stores to be vaccinated given stats here versus percentage unmasked, but I sure as shit know the kids aren't and so many are maskless. ETA: That said, if a kid is wearing a mask and the adult with kid isn't, I assume that adult is vaccinated.

I rarely see children in masks and they obviously aren't vaccinated. The number of people in my liberal city wearing masks is going down every day. Today I feel like maybe half the people who came into my store were wearing masks. But there were also so many children in the store today. And they were definitely over three, so could have worn masks, but parents aren't making them. I hope they all stay healthy, but with those out there who refuse to be vaccinated and are now not wearing masks, I am worried about the numbers for children.

My H and I were just talking about how that’s how you can tell a vaccinated adult with kids. So many kids and parents unmasked now in grocery stores. I had a 8-10 year unmasked kid staring at my 3yo and me masked. He was curious, staring, and made some comment to his mom. I hate that it’s back to the masks as political leaning commentary.

Anyone from Ontario here? I'm American but have a friend in the Niagara region and the differences are just mind blowing. They are still under only essential businesses allowed to be open. I think their lock down expired this week. When open essential businesses will be capped at 25% capacity and 15% for non essential. Their schools are officially closed until September. A month or so ago he sent me a picture of a Walmart and they literally barricaded off anything deemed nonessential. I just can't imagine that happening here. I didn't go into stores until I was vaccinated but it's crazy to think about.
Here in South Dakota we never locked down and our governor decided to leave it up to each city to make their own mandates. I live in one of the proactive towns in the state but we allowed our mask mandate to expire in May. Many businesses are still voluntarily limiting capacity or doing take out only.
I know they were slower at vaccine roll out but from my understanding the are now getting to be available. Makes me wonder when they will begin easing up.

We just received word that our school district is going to be treating 1st graders next Fall like Ks normally would- their own special orientation days and that assessments like they do for entering Ks will happen the first two weeks of school.

Any of the NY people- did I just read the news right that schools can ditch the masks regardless of vaccination status of teachers/students?

I'm not in Ontario, but that is how it has been in my province until two days ago when they opened patios and non-essential retail at 25% capacity. The re-opening plans are all pretty slow compared to the US. We still need to distribute second doses, especially with this new delta variant not responding well to just one dose. We have been operating on a "give everyone one dose first" policy. I think a lot of Canadian hide out in our own thread because the difference in experience since the beginning of the year (especially in vaccine rollout) made it hard to relate. But yes, things are looking up now.

As a former K teacher I think that’s nice for the kids that stayed virtual. It will also help the teachers do more accurate assessments.

And kids are traveling all over now for sports so I would suspect we will see surges now. My kid will be heartbroken if he gets caught in a quarantine and can’t end the year with his teacher

This just put me in such a shit mood on a Friday afternoon. The letter does say districts can implement stricter guidelines. So hopefully yours keeps on with the masks through the end of the year.

richard I highly doubt they will. I live in a super conservative area where even restaurants have been having mask burning parties. I think parents will riot if their kids have to wear masks until the end if the state gives the option for them to be off.
