I will say, my county was at a 0.7% rolling positivity rate as of today, which I am quite pleased with. My main concern is that I don't know really anyone who is still getting tested frequently, including HCW. I got tested last week because I have had a weird very mild sinus thing going on (not covid, confirmed). But otherwise, my coworkers have mostly stopped getting tested routinely.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school? My daughter has been in person since April 12, and I haven't been notified of any positives. That is, of course, a less than 2 month time span. And her school is quite small, I would say less than 200 kids (it's a language magnet school, and a lot smaller than the other public elementary schools). ETA: And her school is K-8.

I’ve noticed so many less masks in my area in the past few weeks. It’s so strange seeing people unmasked. What is everyone doing about masks, for those who are vaccinated? Are you going maskless in businesses that don’t require it? If I’m with the kids I still wear mine no matter what since they are not vaccinated. My H wants us to keep wearing them even when we’re not with the kids, but I did try to take it off at the store the other night. I felt really uncomfortable, so I guess I’m not ready. If I am by myself, I do not mask unless required by the establishment. If I have DD, who is too young to mask, I do not mask. I mask when the boys are with me purely for example purposes because they are still required to mask. We have resumed one of them coming with me to go grocery shopping or whatever. DD and I hit up the disney store closeout last weekend. I always wear her on my back, and people tend to steer away from the one who appears to be talking to herself before they realize I have her with me 🤷🏼♀️ I follow my normal pre-covid precautions- early hours and home by 11am. No crowded stores, avoid people in general, constant hand washing. I have bad social anxiety and people near me in stores are a major trigger. I take my kids to walk the mall, but I won’t allow a museum or kids indoor playground. I’m complicated, what can I say 🤷🏼♀️

I stopped masking outdoors the day my state announced it was adopting the CDC's new outdoor masking guidance last month. I was among the first in my neighborhood and perhaps got some looks, but I was ready to be like, "I'm fully vaxxed and Fauci says it's fine!". It took about two weeks for the majority of folks in my neighborhood to ditch them outdoors, but I think I see maybe 25% of people masked still on the street. Inside, I still wear it for errands, even if the place says vaccinated people don't have to, especially if it's short.

oh man i went to one of the craziest weddings ever at the natural bridge. Very pretty but probably the most memorable wedding I've ever been to! Go on... MH was a groomsman so we were there the day before for rehearsal and dinner. Stayed at the big hotel. Well there was a crazy storm that night and it knocked down tons of trees and power lines. There was a live power line in the road so one point of egress was blocked. The hotel was supposed to have the reception and couldn't because no power. The running water at the hotel also worked on electricity- the pump or whatever. So that was out. That quickly became apparent when nobody could flush toilets. So the next morning it's beautiful and sunny and clear but nobody has power, we are scribbling to find out if they'll have the highway cleared so other guests can one. If the natural bridge itself would've cleaned up and ok to have the ceremony. Rodin's a place that could cater a 100 person wedding day of and another venue spot for the reception that day. Also finding new hotel rooms so we could bathe and get ready for a wedding. We managed to find like a holiday inn with an open room big enough to seat us. MH grabbed all the decorations from the original ballroom And took it and i basically decorated besT i could in the short time. Another groomsman found an Italian restaurant that could do huge platters of food last-minute and thankfully the ceremony went forward just as planned. Like it was a mad rush from one thing to another, but it all turned out ok. Def not the wedding the planned on but totally memorable.n

Quoting myself...... normally we have about 900 kids. At the moment it’s around 300 a day. That's what has me pondering. If I'm still regularly hearing about infected elementary kids when only 300 kids are in the building, why are they so confident they can keep everyone safe with 900 kids in the building. But, again, kids in the school contracting covid =/= they contracted it at school and it doesn't seem like there have been any outbreaks leading to building closures. i'm outing myself again as a politics lurker, but my kids been at school since Sept (except for 7 weeks mandatory quarantine) and there's been about 10ish cases in the school total and no in school spread at all. We get notified when there's been a case in the school building and the person was there during their infectious period. The school is around 400 students k-4, masking was required at all times except outside play and eating. DS tested positive in March. He caught it from H who is a physio and got it through work. No one else in DS class tested positive

coffeecake I don’t mask at the gym anymore. I’m only with myself and one of two other women in the personal training area so it’s pretty well controlled population-wise. I still keep a mask on at all stores and if I’m doing food pickup. I don’t know why but I just feel safer at stores with it on still. Probably doesn’t make sense but oh well. I always have a mask on if my oldest is with because he has to mask.

DS had no symptoms at all and i had a stuffy nose and then lost my taste and smell which was very weird. H had some lingering chest tightness but as soon as he got his first vaccine it cleared up. I still have a bit of a stuffy nose and it takes me longer to pick up on smells.

Word is that Cal OSHA is going to make an announcement tomorrow about safe workplaces and masks, which may mean CA businesses have to continue the mask mandate unless they can document every single employee and patron is vaccinated. This should be interesting. I know my small office both of the unvaxed guys are waiting for the 15th to see if they can unmask and come back out to our cubicle open room. 😒 Ooh, interesting! I would be down with a mandate like this. I wonder how it would affect businesses open to the public though?

I definitely wear it with the kids since they have to mask. But an older gentleman working at the grocery the other day commented to me that if I was vaccinated I didn’t have to wear it. He was very nice and he said “Of course do whatever you’re comfortable with,” and it got me thinking. It’s crazy how weird it feels to be without a mask!

I just found out that as of 5/14 mandatory testing for teachers stopped. I guess that was when our county went to yellow tier. I know most are vaccinated but I’m still 🤔 about that. I’ll admit I have slacked a bit with getting DS tested lately. I need to thought because between baseball and school and soon to be camps he’s around a lot more people these days. Always masked though.

Maybe getting closer to announcement of where surplus vaccines may be sent. From other stories I've read, there have been various logistical/diplomatic challenges to the distribution plans. Looks like there are still regulatory issues re the AZ vaccines as well. ... The Biden administration is poised to announce which countries will receive the first shipments of vaccines donated from the U.S. stockpile, amid the risk that more coronavirus variants will arise in countries lacking access to the shots, people familiar with the matter said. ... link

Per CNN (excerpted)
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that he is “cautiously optimistic” that children under age 12 will be able to get vaccinated by Thanksgiving.
“We are now doing studies that are ongoing as we're speaking, studies that are looking at what we call age de-escalation: children from 12 to 9 and then 9 to 6 and then 6 to 2 and then 6 months to 2 years. We hope as we approach the end of this calendar year, we'll have enough information to vaccinate children of any age,” Fauci told CNN’s John Berman.

It feels kind of like an act of protest at this point. 😅

I'm wearing a mask indoors until my kids can be vaccinated. I haven't seen all the research about whether vaccinated people can pass it to unvaccinated people. Maybe it is there and I just haven't seen it.
Though to be fair, the only places I go anymore are work and the grocery store, and I have to wear a mask at work, so it's not like it's a huge sacrifice.

I'm wearing my masks indoors when I have my kids with me since they still have to wear then. I typically still wear mine when I'm indoors without them too but that's rare. I still have to wear one at work (hospital) so 🤷🏻♀️ We haven't been wearing them outside anymore and just have been avoiding crowds. We have plans to go to the amusement parks this summer though and I will probably have them wear them when we are around a lot of people.

This thread is very in the weeds but I thought it was interesting and a good response to the claims that Covid could not possibly be natural in origin.

richard thanks for the recommendation of the Happy Masks! I ordered one each for my kids and they just came and are perfect. They fit really well and will be perfect for indoors where we can't social distance as well.
