We have 900 kids k-5 in our elementary school. About 2/3rds of kids are back, but hybrid. There has been one case in the school (don't know if teacher or student) since March 1, when kids started coming back. I'm guessing since there was only 1 case, that it did not spread nor was contracted at school. That's very different from the like 20 cases S2's school has had Interesting. Does your county do a dashboard? Ours is handy. Across all ages/schools for the district, there have been 31 cases since March 1. I know we are like a 1/10 the size of your district though. ETA our middle schools and high school are the brunt of those 31.

Auuuugh www.nj.com/coronavirus/2021/06/nj-could-drop-school-mask-requirements-in-fall-our-minds-are-open-murphy-says.html I know he is getting a lot of pressure from the "unmask our kids" contingent, meanwhile I still haven't seen a good argument for why wearing a mask for likely only a few more months is such a horrible thing for kids. I wrote yet another letter to the Gov arguing for masks until a vaccine is available. (I'm also currently arguing with a local parent on FB who is happy about this...and said that homeschool is always an option if folks aren't happy...meanwhile they sent their kid to private school this year because they were open fulltime and they needed the childcare 🤦♀️).

CA and MD are the latest states to get over the 70% (of adults) threshold
Apologies if this was covered already, I was following that GD thread all weekend

Anheuser Busch is going to give out free beer if the US gets to 70% vaccinated by July 4
Jen also announced other incentives like free childcare so parents can get shots, vaccines at barbershops and sporting events, and pharmacies open 24 hours on Fridays.

Whoopdee doo. I think we're at 52% with one? And 48% fully vaccinated. That said, something like almost 10% of people in state have tested positive for the coronavirus.

I really hate how people have forgotten that not everyone is eligible for the vaccine and that those not eligible will all be packed in closer next year as more students return to in-person 🙄 Also, I got off FB last summer and needed to find something on my account so ventured back in for a hot second. Of course the first post I saw on my feed was a complaint like “So the unvaccinated must wear masks to protect the vaccinated 🤔” I was very WTF 🤬and truly don’t get why people cannot have common sense. Needless to say, I got what I needed and deactivated again.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school? Only my oldest is back in person and just for the last quarter. We get notifications of all the positives at her school (student & staff) and the district has a dashboard that gets updated weekly. Her high school (9-12) has 3400 kids; roughly 80% were in person the last 9 weeks. All students were required to attend in-person for state and standardized tests so there were a few days they had close to 100% of the kids there. Frequency of positives has dropped a lot. They had 3 positives last week. There have been approx 140 YTD. It's Texas so absolutely nothing has made that school close. At least half the kids were in person the entire year. I will say the masks clearly work. I really don't think the positive counts were transmitted from within the school itself.

I think our entire student enrollment is about 12,000-15,000. There were 964 cases of COVID among kids in our district (nearly 7%) and 286 staff members had COVID. (Almost 13%)

rockies , I hate going to my states health and services fb page, but it is easiest to find the latest updates. The comments are ridiculous. The latest being that businesses that offer incentives for vaccines are discriminating against those who DON'T WANT IT. I have yet seen a comment from someone who is unable to get it due to health reasons, etc.

I went to Target yesterday and still 90% were masked. And there was only one new case reported in my county today. I'm cautiously optimistic? I have to be. It was closer to 60% at my Target last night. Of course, our area has really high vax rates, so I’m guessing that many of the unmasked people truly are vaccinated. But it still gives me jolt of alarm to see people unmasked inside in public - it’s going to take some time for that to fade.

A’s school is on the smaller side for our area. ~100 kids per grade, 700 total. The last time we were notified of a case at the school (not his class) was in early April and there was no spread within the school. There haven’t been any known cases since.

None of them were outbreaks, so they didn’t make it into the VA outbreak tracker.

Minor changes at my internist office (which is located in a hospital building) from just three months ago. Masks are worn, but they no longer have the 'greeting area' where staff ensured you sanitized your hands, handed you an extra mask, and took your temperature. Now a sign outside the building stating masks required for medical facility, and once inside you're directed to go to your appointment. It's a large community hospital.
Temps now taken at the individual practice registration desk. Doctor was masked but no longer wearing a face shield. In chatting, he said his particular patient load, which is 'older and sicker' since he's an internist, appears to be over 90% vaccinated. County is supposed to be very close to 50% fully vaccinated but figures may be lagging due to holiday.

We camped in Natural Bridge, VA, so not deep SW VA, but definitely heading that direction (230 miles away). Mask compliance was as high as NOVA. We didn't go many places (Zoo Safari, camp ground, a gas station, and Starbucks), but masking was still going strong. I was pleasantly surprised.

Reporting from the DE beaches, masks are pretty few and far between. It's pretty empty this week since the weather is horrid, so I'm not too worried about it since it's easy to keep our distance. We went to the OC boardwalk like a dummies and it was packed and we were only ones in masks. Got our thrashers and kohr bros and left.
Rehoboth boardwalk has timed tickets/entry for the rides at least, but that had sold out before we realized it.

Word is that Cal OSHA is going to make an announcement tomorrow about safe workplaces and masks, which may mean CA businesses have to continue the mask mandate unless they can document every single employee and patron is vaccinated. This should be interesting. I know my small office both of the unvaxed guys are waiting for the 15th to see if they can unmask and come back out to our cubicle open room. 😒

Looks like the big childcare providers will doing some free childcare vis a vis vaccinations. I’ve noticed so many less masks in my area in the past few weeks. It’s so strange seeing people unmasked. What is everyone doing about masks, for those who are vaccinated? Are you going maskless in businesses that don’t require it? If I’m with the kids I still wear mine no matter what since they are not vaccinated. My H wants us to keep wearing them even when we’re not with the kids, but I did try to take it off at the store the other night. I felt really uncomfortable, so I guess I’m not ready.

dc2london, a true no reservation, drop in protocol would be heavenly. Bright Horizon, at least at this point, is running by appointment Bright Horizons is proud to team up with the White House to offer free child care to help Americans get their COVID-19 vaccine. The initiative will help achieve the critical goal of getting 70% of American adults vaccinated by July 4. Between now and July 4, families can secure free back-up child care at a Bright Horizons early education and child care center while they receive their first dose, second dose or if they need time to recover from side effects of the vaccination. You must register and reserve care in advance. We want to give you the support you need to protect your health and the health of your family. If you work for an employer that offers Bright Horizons Back-Up Care or have previously used Bright Horizons Back-Up Care, use your credentials to begin the child care reservation process here. If you are unsure about your employer's back-up care offering, call us at 833-545-1081 between 8:00 am - 6:00 pm Mountain Daylight Time for assistance. Click here to request your co-pay waiver. Just let us know in the comments that your co-pay should be waived. Thank you for doing your part to get vaccinated and care for our nation.

We are 14 days away from the barn doors flying wide open on California. May the odds be ever in our favor. 🤷🏻♀️ DD1's last day of school is the day we open up. I mean... I guess I am glad that at least the mandate will cover the end of the school year, but also, ugh. Hoping they choose to maintain masking in school in the fall, at least.
