I have been swimsuit shopping and holy cow, I’m so sick of the “cheeky” one piece style. This suit is beyond that. hah im the opposite. My struggle is finding a suit with good coverage on the front that lets my cheeks shine.

What kind of things do y’all do to stay mentally sharp? I feel like my memory is getting worse, and I’m making little mistakes at work that I never would have 5 years ago. I know some of this is just side effects of getting older. But it’s really bothering me.

overboard My memory has gone to shit, too. I do crosswords and tangram puzzles. I don't know if they're helping or not, but I figure they can't hurt.

It doesn't have to be a dance class. Even just putting music on and dancing for like 30 min or whatever. I take a dance class (in non covid times, hoping to get back in September) but I also just like to put music on and dance it out with my kids occasionally during the week.

I think the stress of the last year has affected this too... not just getting older 😉 This was definitely true for me. I felt like I was in a fog most of this winter/spring and I was constantly losing my words. Too much cortisol over a long time can really screw with you. I get a similar effect when my thyroid is off, but in this case it was depression. overboard, exercising and prioritizing sleep have always helped me. Putting in the effort to do things that require an active mind (playing strategy games, writing) even when I’m feeling mentally lazy and taking time to be social help as well. And give it time - your mind will wake back up.

I made it almost through day 2 of the elimination diet before breaking down because H keeps trying to eat my food. 😒 I even managed to make a dinner we all could eat and yet he’s digging into my snacks. 😠 Back off, man!

Sorry to pop in just to ask a question, but my 5 yr old gave herself a concussion yesterday and I'm struggling to come up with things to keep her entertained while not being active or using too much brain power for the next week or so. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm looking at the list the ER gave us of things to avoid and I'm struggling to figure out how to keep her relatively still and calm while (understandably) not using electronics or puzzles/other brain work quiet stuff that she likes.
Are crafts too much? Water table outside? I'm not sure what the line is and she's not really giving me too much feedback, though she very willingly went into her room for quiet time on her bed with her dolls and some books so I know she's feeling it still.

gymngemini That sounds scary! I haven’t dealt with a concussion but am thinking of things I do with DS when I’m not feeling good. Board games? Drawing/coloring/painting? You could read aloud to her if she gets tired of reading herself. Lay on the lawn and watch the clouds. Listen to music. Snuggle and chat about life. Lol. I hope she’s feeling better soon.

The water table might work if she wouldn't get worked up and start jumping and running. Painting, coloring, play doh, playing board and card games, puzzles.
Is she into Legos? Maybe a new Lego kit to build.
ETA: I'm sorry she and you are dealing with this.

gymngemini , I think that the water table is fine. At 5, she could play without being too crazy. And crafts would be fine with me. Maybe she can draw some pictures to send to family or neighbors? Check out a dollar store for little kits or stickers. Playdough, puzzles, blocks, help in the kitchen? I hope that she is back to her normal self soon.

Oh no dc2london, I'm so sorry. Didn't you have issues with flooding/landlord being a jerk when you were moving house a few years ago? Maybe I'm misremembering. Excessive water where it shouldn't be is awful to deal with, regardless.

Thank you guys so much for the suggestions. Those are all really good. easier board games are a favorite and she's usually pretty tolerant of interference by the youngest. enchanted legos are brilliant. She loves free building and I bet I can convince my oldest to at least work on her sets while she plays. Like sister bonding activity. klw yes she would love to write "letters" and I can't believe I forgot about play dough. I'm pretty sure that got is through all the rainy days last spring. I am glad to see her feeling even a little better. She still doesn't remember how she hit her head but the really scary stuff from yesterday has stopped.

I should have asked more questions before discharge but I was jumbled and just really grateful that it wasn't anything more serious that I didn't really think about it. And I knew the basics of low activity, no electronics but didn't translate that to the reality of having a 5 yr old.
