What shoes do you like for your kids in the summertime? R is 6.5 and E and A will soon be 5.
We've been buying Natives the last 5 summers, but the girls hate that the mulch on the playgrounds get in them so they've decided they want something different.
We have a big road trip this summer with 5 National Park visits, so something that could be used for mild hiking would be great as well.

Following.
I think inherently anything with holes (natives or sandals) is going to be a problem with woodchips/mulch. My kids wear keen sandals, but end up in sneakers/socks at playgrounds for the same reason.
Actually, we've never bought Natives, I assumed their tiny holes would keep this from happening! Back to the drawing board.

I usually stick with regular gym shoes and flip flops for pools and sprinklers.

Crocs. Both my kids prefer them over all other shoes. J has a pair of Merrell sandal sneaker things that are supposed to be good for hiking that he will wear.

Back to the drawing board. Ah, keens were on my list to try. In Natives, the girls spend so much time sitting down to dump them out or mostly, crying to me to wipe their feet and empty their shoes. I can't do it another summer. Maybe sneakers with socks is our only solution.

We bought Keens this summer for the first time. The quality seems excellent. DS1 has worn them on those rubber mulch playgrounds and hasn’t had any issues with mulch getting in. Like OR said, I guess socks underneath would prevent that as well.

I think we're going to try the Skechers foamies. Similar to Natives, but a neoprene heel so would be easier to get on with socks when needed. Plus, with the 25% off, they're only $22.50/pair vs the $45+ for Keens and $40 for Natives.

My kids love Crocs, but not if there's sand/wood chips/mulch. So we do socks and running shoes at the playground.
