I have an outie now... 😔 thanks ladies 😭😭😭 Haha / jk. I mean I do, but it doesn't creep me out as much as I thought it was going to, so I guess that's good. 😛 Awww sorry hah! Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with a popped belly button but for some reason I just find the thought sort of freaky. Does it hurt / feel odd or dont you really notice?? Guess that s my main worry hah. MH keeps saying it likely will happen for me before long so I guess I may find out sooner or later haha.

I notice it bc my shirts are getting too tight and it pokes out- you can see it in my bump pics lol. Mine is squishy- I poke it a lot, DH pokes it a lot. Depends how I'm laying down, sometimes it returns to a flat position. Lol. When it started, I asked my Dr if it was normal and he looked at it, poked it, laughed, and then said "oh you're totally going to get an outie!" 😏 So I was prepared for it, lol. I do worry about it returning to normal but I think it'll be fine. Or I'll add it to the list of body changes I'll deal with forever 😭

You are not the only one! My BIL sent a report from where he is in Ethiopia about some girls that escaped really bad situation. I know I would not be able to handle reading it so I time DH to give me a report. I'm crying half the day it seems. ETA I'm only 6 weeks. Should I be looking forward to this not changing the whole pregnancy? Maybe if it's already begun. But I could cry over something like that not pregnant. Well yes. But I'm also crying about any little "happy" thing. Listening to a podcast and the doctor mentions breastfeeding and *tears*. This is not normal, at least not for me. Also poor DH, I am not an out loud crying person normally, but last night when I passed a couple clots I was hysterical crying to DH that I was scared. Which I think is to be expected, but I would never do not pregnant. He was great tho. 💓

Lol @muacari addymac @easilyunamused lol I would totally be the one poking my outie and laughing. But I'm also in the camp of hoping it doesn't happen to me and thinking it would be creepy. No offense addymac lol ETA and I'm glad to hear it's not that creepy haha

I'm basically waiting for my belly button to pop. I'm also on team weird/creepy about it. It's almost completely flat now, and DH likes to tease me that I normally have the deepest belly button on earth. It does get kind of sore/uncomfortable, especially when LO is moving around right behind it.

@easilyunamused muscari there's nothing the doctor would actually do, right? They weren't that big and I'm only having very minimal spotting so after reading some stuff about clots, pretty similar to what cakewench told me yesterday, in not that worried today. I was a wreck last night tho.

They weren't that big and I'm only having very minimal spotting so after reading some stuff about clots, pretty similar to what cakewench told me yesterday, in not that worried today. I was a wreck last night tho. The "scary" bleeding I had at 6w were some minor clots as well. H (who had no idea what he was looking at) thought we were done. After I passed them my spotting got pretty scant and lightened up quickly, so that helped me to stop panicking. My RE's office saw me the next morning but the NP told me even small clots are ok and normal (again, as long as there's no severe cramping). Passing actual tissue would be more concerning to them. Tough to say what a doctor will tell you - likely they will say there's not much they can do and to call back if you soak a pad/tampon in less than an hour and/or have severe cramping (before I "graduated" from the RE this was basically the standard response, and my regular practice said the same once I transferred over). They may ask you to come in for a u/s to check for an SCH, or they might just note it on your file and check you for it when you go in for your first appt. No matter what, try to stay calm (haha I know, so much easier said than done), make sure you are resting enough and staying hydrated. ETA: I should also point out I am a FTM and this is just my experience, so I'm hardly an expert or a medical professional. If your gut is telling you to call the doc, do it.

I hate the anxiety that comes with pregnancy. And no matter how far along you go, it never truly goes away.

My belly button is on its way to popping out. It's currently quite stretched but the top or bottom sticks out a bit depending on where baby is hanging out.
I wasn't allowed to get out of bed after I got my epidural. Nor did I want to at that point (8 cm dilated and moving along quite quickly). I had the fall risk wristband and everything. Once I had given birth and after about an hour of skin to skin time, a nurse helped me get to the bathroom to pee and wouldn't let me get up/down by myself or walk without holding onto her. Not sure if that would have been any different if I hadn't gotten the epidural though.
Eta I could still feel my legs, but I wasn't on the epidural drip for very long. Maybe 35 minutes or so? I was definitely a little shaky on my feet but I think that had more to do with giving birth than the pain meds.

@grumphycat I think that is what they told me too - no more out of bed once the epi is in. But we discussed so many things at that appointment not everything is as clear in my memory heh. Thanks for sharing your experience as well. And I hope your belly button stays an innie for some longer hehehe.

Is it too early to book my doula? I know I want to use the one from DS birth - we ended up with a c-section because he was breech and hoping for a VBAC. She was awesome and even took lovely pictures after the delivery, and I know I want her with me this time. But is that crazy to do at, oh, 12 DPO? I'm barely pregnant. I'm giving myself at least another couple of days before I make my midwife appointment.

How did you find your doula? I've been considering hiring one but my doc's practice doesn't really have many they work with on a regular basis/recommend, and I'm not sure where to start. (Also in DC metro area, btw.)

(Also in DC metro area, btw.) I remember that you were in the area! I would looooove to recommend my doula. I did a ridiculous amount of research on area doulas, interviewed my top 5 and ultimately chose Tara Beth Olson. I loved that she was very evidence and data-driven, really believed in women's strength, and was very non-judgmental about whatever we chose as our birth plan. She was also very affordable in comparison to others with similar experience. (Though it does appear she has raised her prices a bit.) She lives in Vienna and serves most of the area hospitals. Her photographs (before, during and after labor) are gorgeous and I was so glad we sprung for the additional photo package. Loved her birth class. She was so responsive to my emails in the long couple of weeks trying to turn our baby from breech and gave me the best pep talks. When I went into labor at 3 am 3 weeks early, I had no trouble reaching her and she got to the hospital with amazing speed. I'm not sure I would have felt as positive as I did about our ultimate c-section without her supporting us through it all. I just can't say enough good things about her. We're actually facebook friends now. If you ultimately choose her, let me know and I'll PM you my name and you can tell her I referred you!

This is super helpful - looking quickly at her site, Sibley isn't on her list (that's where my practice has admitting privileges) but maybe it will be covered under the extra fee? Obviously I will do more research but this seems like a great place to get started - thanks again!

My belly button is thisclose to popping out and I'm not a fan. I don't want an outie! I almost want this baby to come today so it doesn't happen. 😂 I went for a hike and had sex yesterday hoping something would happen. But nada. Same here! I was so glad I didnt have a popped out belly button but fear maybe I spoke too early haha. Around my belly button and tracing down it feels like my muscles are being slowly torn apart and it feels flatter and numbish and also has lost all color. So odd! Anyone else has this? YES! I just noticed it yesterday. It's also super sensitive.

They have a very high c-section rate and a bad reputation among doulas as being unwelcome and antagonistic toward them. Just FYI.

One of Tara's projects that really sold me on her was to research and compile hospital profiles related to birth. Sibley's profile is here: www.tarabetholson.com/hospitals/sibley/ I'd still encourage you to call/email her and see if she'd work with you there. If not, she could still give you some good insights into why and how to prepare to deliver there, maybe a recommendation for another doula. Perhaps your doctor can give you names of doulas she/he has worked with successfully?

I don't understand why some hospitals are so hostile towards doulas. I'm not having one, but I definitely think if you did, there should be no push back. It's so frustrating how some people think of labor as nbd and that us as women are supposed to just know what we are doing, or just listen to complete strangers to tell us what do in the middle of giving birth. Just because it's routine for the medical staff, does not mean all women just magically know too. And then they'll usually just do whatever without telling you why. Sorry. I'm up in my feels about my upcoming labor.
