Give it to me. Your confessions. Your opinions. Your regrets. Your plans.

I am the breadwinner of my household now. And I think it’s improved my marriage? Not sure if this is a confession or a brag. It’s good but it’s stressful and I feel the role reversal has helped us understand each other better.

Skittles are trash now that they’ve switched the green from lime to apple. Wtf?

My H bought me tickets to Elton John shortly before Covid hit. I’m glad I saw him live, but I was secretly underwhelmed. Never tell my H.

Donuts aren’t that great. Even the really good ones.

I can’t believe that most cars open with the push of a button and yet most house locks require a key.

Sometimes I read about people being “fuck my job. I’m internetting today” and although I understand the sentiment, my reaction is mostly “Man, it’s hard to hire good people. Your poor boss” because I’m a boss now.

Your poor boss” because I’m a boss now. I’m salary, so my work gets done timely. Whether it involves 10 hours a day or 5. But this is also why I blow off work when it’s slow. Cause I know it’s going to suck other weeks. If I was hourly this would not be the case.

Not sure if it works in a power outage. Yeah, when we change our door (soon) I’m upgrading. I just think it’s funny. Like, more people live in houses/apartments than own cars. Why are we so behind on the house lock front?

Sometimes I read about people being “fuck my job. I’m internetting today” and although I understand the sentiment, my reaction is mostly “Man, it’s hard to hire good people. Your poor boss” because I’m a boss now. As a person who has never had a salaried job, I don’t even understand how it’s possible, really. But I’ve only had jobs where the work is physically either done or not done. However, I definitely have felt “fuck being a great parent, I’m internetting today.”

I judge people who are extremely particular about their cakes. I’m a very detail oriented person and I know I expect things to be at slightly elevated level when I hire contractors, etc. I set that expectation with them in the beginning and then try very hard not to be a total pain in the ass. But when people exceed my own personal level of detail...Like today when I had a one hour appointment that should have taken 10 minutes, I straight up think you’re using your cake to fill some kind of personal area in which you think you’re lacking. I judge thee.

I once had a lady cry because her cake was not the exact shade of lavender she expected. She literally did this while several customers told her how adorable her cake was.

I put in for a personal day in a couple weeks. I have no intention of telling my husband. This day is for me, I haven’t been alone forever, I don’t want him to book a plumber or whatever because I’m going to be home, and I don’t want any expectations that I’m going to spend my time doing something productive at home. I’m going to go to an art museum, buy myself a nice lunch, practice until I feel like stopping instead of until I’m interrupted, and then pick up the kids and come home like it was a normal day.

It’s good but it’s stressful and I feel the role reversal has helped us understand each other better. It's been good for us. DH used to feel a lot of stress at being the breadwinner and I'm better at handling money than him (although he's better at paying bills - it's a balance).

I just think it’s funny. Like, more people live in houses/apartments than own cars. Why are we so behind on the house lock front? Because we don't replace our doors every 10 years. I love my August locks. I own 4 of them. I bought a Lockley for a door that couldn't be a deadbolt and I don't love it nearly as much. August is awesomesauce. You can also replace your lock now and door later, if you don't want to wait for the upgrade.

My facebook feed skews left of left politically. So I'm seeing a lot of posts saying something along the lines of this: And it bruises a little. I'm trying to hire and it's effin HARD right now. We're pay $2-$3 more per hour than the average for the position for our area. I'm not a shitty employer (so says even my former employees) and I'm working really hard at creating a workplace that provides a positive work/life balance. I've finally decided to believe that all the people posting those things aren't talking about me or my workplace. But ouch still. Bosses aren't inherently evil just because they're bosses.

If you're paying a living wage and creating a good workplace, I think it's safe to assume that it isn't about you or your workplace. But this is true for a lot lot lot of jobs. But I don't think it's necessarily evil bosses, or whatever - it's generally capitalism at work. I'm feeling very much like many (all?) of the systemic problems we have won't be solved by a kind boss (A is his own boss and doesn't make enough money!), they have to be solved by larger societal systems. Business owners aren't inherently evil. But they do inherently have control over their employees, so they are definitely a factor in employees day to day lives/wages. I'm so glad and unsurprised you use your power for good!
