Tell me about yours. Good day? Bad day? Busy? Where has everyone been? What’s going on in life?

So my car wouldn’t start this morning. And of course I was home alone with the kids, and they needed to go to school and I needed to go to work. Spent 30 minutes searching the garage and the barn for the trickle charger. Finally gave up and texted a neighbor for help. Then immediately found the charger. Luckily was able to charge my batter and jump it. But did I mention that I was wearing nice work clothes and heels while doing all this? So I’m late to work. Feet hurt already and have a headache. Wasn’t able to drink my protein shake until after all the drama, so now I have a headache from low blood sugar and lack of caffeine. Went to go make my coffee at work, and the sinks and toilets are all clogged in the break room. So I had to go buy coffee. I am somehow still feeling grateful that we own a trickle charger, that mh was able to walk me through jumping my car, that I have the means to afford coffee when the break room is down, that my kids can take the bus to school, and that my work is flexible enough that me being late today wasn’t a problem.

tj I had to google 'trickle charger' as I had never heard of such a thing. Seems pretty nifty! We have one of those portable car charging brick things which is nice but only if it is charged itself.

I am paying bills today. I need to have a CTJ talk with MH and show him actual numbers because he seems to think we have more money to spend than we actually do. His student loans are a fortune every month, and he is getting his MBA now so we have that tuition on top of it. Plus he took a minor pay cut to move here and we pay more in income taxes compared to our last state. And more monthly expenses because, bigger house. Sir, you cannot have it all. You can buy fun toys or you can pay for more education. I like to be in control of the bill paying but I feel like he maybe needs to do it for a couple months just to get a grasp on it.

I feel actually sort of bananas hearing how everyone feels back to normal, kids in school, back to work. Not really on this board, specifically, but overall.
I am still living in a remote learning world, which was our choice, for sure. But one choice led to another and so I've just sort of sacrificed myself until Sept 2021, which I knew going in. Working an hourly wage means I cannot risk paying for care during a pandemic when I wouldn't be able to work.
But I feel like I'm the only one left in this position. I know I'm DEFINITELY not, but I sort of am within my friends. Some people don't seem to understand that WFH isn't an option in lots of jobs.
And while I know that I shouldn't think of this as "life on hold," but rather this IS life, I simply will not do that, given that I have so little control over my own self and time right now.
So here I sit. Feeling lonely, and mad. Also lucky. But no worries, I am going to hold a baby chick (we have seven!), make myself some lunch, do something special with the kids, and pretend it's almost September.
Edit: Annoying aunt just got vaccine #2, so I am really hoping to be able to use her for some childcare starting in a couple weeks! I haven't been alone with A, other than bedtime, since the pandemic started, almost. And annoying aunt hasn't seen the kids in over a year. She lives 15 minutes away. And she doesn't charge us a ton for babysitting.

They are quite handy! Assuming your spouse hasn’t hidden them somewhere that no one can find, and you don’t have to spend 30 min in heels digging through the garage and barn.

ovenrack we're also still virtual learning, and I'm counting down until he's done for the summer in 22 days. Can not come fast enough. I'm so over it.

It’s the first time since early last Fall that we have a full 10 day forecast of sunshine! Just some warmer temps and sun is really helping everyone’s moods. I spent the morning cleaning the windows and bathrooms. Have all the bed sheets going through the wash and am thinking about making homemade pizza for dinner with fresh tomato, mozzarella, and basil.
Our deck/porch project is still waiting on the electrician to install the lights/outlets/fan and the gutter people to install gutters. Our “2 week project” is rolling into its 5th week here. I called yesterday and the woman in the office was even shocked to see that neither has been scheduled yet. I guess the silver lining is that hopefully our tax return will hit our bank account soon and we won’t have to touch our savings, like planned, to make the final payment.
We still have 6 weeks of school left, 2 weeks of swim lessons left, and 1.5 weeks of lacrosse left then we have an entire 2 months of summer with no major commitments or obligations.

I am going through a really busy time for the next few months. Just trying to keep my head above water. My brain feels like mush.
MH & I are busting our asses this year to try to secure our family’s financial future and for me to sort of “catch up” to where I want to be in my career after taking breaks for motherhood and health problems. We try to stay in touch with family and friends via frequent FaceTimes, etc.
BUT it’s not good enough for our extended family. They are the type to be taking many vacations all year and feel we should be taking long trips to visit frequently. Global pandemic aside, it’s ridiculous. If they have the freedom (financial or otherwise) to travel all the time that’s great for them. We don’t. And frankly, we don’t fkn want to. If we were going to be spending $ traveling more than once a year we would be taking an actual vacation.
Anyway, I’m just ranting now.
On the bright side, we are having our first sunny day in quite a while!

I packed away the newborn clothes last night. Going to save them until my sister is able to sort through what she wants and then purge the rest. I ordered some keepsake boxes for each of the kids so I can keep a few pieces of significance. I'm feeling oddly serene about all of it.
Today we finally close on our mortgage refi. We'll only end up saving 100/month now that our property taxes have caught up with the purchase price we paid. Le sigh. Better than nothing though!
Our Governor announced that all health orders will be lifted June 2. I'm so anxious about it. J and I are vaccinated and the babe is getting antibodies from me but the big kids are still vulnerable. We will continue to mask up in public but I'm feeling very ew do not breathe on my kids, you filthy animals.

I had planned on driving J to school next year to save him time on the bus, and since I have to drive M to preschool 3 days a week anyway. I was talking to my neighbor yesterday and she said we are the second to last bus stop in the morning and the kids have like a 10 minute ride max, usually more like 5, and then the school has breakfast available for all the kids before class starts at 915. Bus picks up at 825. So now I decided he is riding the bus in the mornings and I'll just pick him up in the afternoons because that's a long bus ride otherwise. I'm very excited about this, and he will be thrilled to ride the bus with his neighborhood friends every day.
*at our old house, the bus picked up at 645am. So this is an amazing change!

I'm still over here stressing about flight tickets and garden stuff. I want to just book flights now, but S is determined to wait it out for a "better price". Even though I've expressed my concern over rising prices. Grr. And I bought an open-bottom galvanized planter to make into a dust bath area for the chickens, but S is all concerned about the dirt/sand washing away beneath the sides. So I suggest a few different things to use for a liner, and none of those sound good to him. C'mon, dude! So I'm feeling very stressed and annoyed all together.

rugger this is when you make both of those things his problem to deal with entirely. When MH gets like that I tell him I'm out and he can do whatever the heck he wants as long as whatever it is gets done. He almost always immediately apologizes then does whatever I wanted to do in the first place, lol.

I am way too busy with work the next 3 weeks. This process has suddenly ground to a holt.

Hubby was told that he can isolate at home instead of doing the work isolate (unless he hears otherwise from his boss) so he's now home, which is nice. We're all still playing catch up with sleep so yesterday was all about sleep. I did take the kids out on the patio while hubby got a nap in, and we played with bubbles. It's been hard to do much of anything because I'm just so sleep deprived. Today we're supposed to work on the planters for the patio so I can (finally!) get the plants in at home. I took measurements while I was out yesterday but couldn't find the measuring tape, so I wound up using my soft tape, which was fun because it only goes to 60" and everything is longer than that lol. Tomorrow we're supposed to go out to the property again. Hubby is going to start clearing the driveway a bit, and I'm going to take the kids down the point and maybe explore the beach down there. I think I mentioned that there's only one other house on the entire road so there's basically no chance of us running into anyone else

So I was super engrossed in work yesterday when I looked up and realized it was past 5. I rushed to get out the door Bc I was afraid of my car not starting and everyone having already left the garage and no way to get my car jumped. Sure enough, did not start. Accosted the first human I saw and I begged him to help me. BOY did I pick the wrong person! He was an older man who had apparently never jumped a car before, and possibly had some developmental issues. His car was an old wrecked junker, and he just sat in the car on the phone while I did all the hooking up jumper cables and such. I was kinda shocked by that. And also was just feeling nervous and worried about messing up so I was hoping for someone with more experience. But hey. Got it started finally. Got stuck in major traffic from an accident, and didn’t get home till 7pm. Mh took the car last night to replace the battery. And I just dropped the boy bunny off to get neutered. Hoping for a better day today.

We have finally started getting nice weather and have spent all day, every day in the great outdoors. We are very into catching frogs and salamanders and garter snakes and my kids don’t want to do anything else.
We’re still under stay at home orders but vaccine rollout is finally ramping up. My parents just got their first doses and J is scheduled for the first week of June. I’m just so ready for this to be over.

Happy Friday!
We spent the morning outside, and then I went over to the bathroom store because we decided to get a custom vanity for our bathroom and I had to finalize a couple of decisions. Now I'm second guessing my tile choice. I hate being indecisive, I don't know what's wrong with me. I was awake for over an hour in the middle of the night overthinking these things. We're spending a lot of money on it so there's a lot of pressure in my mind for it to be PERFECT.
Anyway, I'm cooking dinner and having a glass of wine. N heard a Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) song on the radio and loved it, so we've been listening to them all day. She wants to be "the one who plays the guitar and sings" when she grows up.
Tomorrow is vaccine day for me! And my husband gets his on Sunday 🎉

Yay for vaccinated Canadians ( mintyblueair and Mr. snowmoon) It’s been a long week. MH brought wine home and I made black bean quesadillas for dinner. So ready for a relaxing night of podcasts and an early bedtime.

I just put M to bed in her bright, bright bedroom (her room faces west) and she was fine with it because she will just keep her eyes closed until it gets dark out, then she will open them. 🤣
She tells me every night that I tuck her in after sunset that she isn't going to close her eyes because she doesn't like the dark. So this has solved that problem.
