willow hace you heard of the FODMAP diet? A lot of IBS people find relief from adhering to a low fodmap diet. There are so many things on it they make dh miserable to even consider it as a serious diet change but maybe one day… I just looked it up. I really don’t like strict diet changes like that though, I would honestly rather try to medicate the symptoms. I just hate eliminating food that I enjoy. It sounds silly but I am really happy with the foods I choose to eat both for health and indulgences. SSRIs can also help with IBS. And not just by treating associated anxiety - there are lots of serotonin receptors in the gut that coordinate the GI system and help keep everything moving along at the right pace.

Well. Now I feel like I wasted $100. Idk, I have family members who have done IGg testing and done the elimination diet and seen marked improvements in how they feel. Maybe it's a placebo effect. I guess....what's the harm in trying?

And yes, of course, allergies and sensitivities/intolerance are completely different. If I eat eggs, I feel crummy. If my kid eats a peanut M&M, it could kill him. If anyone thinks they have actual food *allergies* they should definitely see an allergist right away.

Minerva that is super interesting. I have definitely had much worse anxiety since the twins were born, which is when all of this started. I have PPA along with the anxiety from my PTSD but I have never had any medication other than my medical cannabis which I just use at night for sleep. Would that be something to talk to a psychiatrist about or maybe just bring up to my therapist first? While I have absolutely nothing against medication for mental health, at all, for *me* personally, I have been trying to develop habits and skills to reduce my symptoms instead of medication. But if it could also help my digestion, that could be huge. I also imagine it’s not a coincidence that this all came about when the pandemic began. dc2london I am still going to do the tests! And I have been seeing an allergist for years and go to get allergy shots once a month so I might bring it up next month after my shots when I get my results to see if they have a more extensive food test I could take.

And I have been seeing an allergist for years and go to get allergy shots once a month so I might bring it up next month after my shots when I get my results to see if they have a more extensive food test I could take. I’ve been working with my GP on controlling my IBS-C for about 4 months now. I was getting awful pain and bloating. She’s had me keep a food diary to look for any obvious triggers (the only things I’ve found are ice cream and Oreos 😢), eliminate all dairy with gradual reintroduction of yogurt and hard cheese, and increase my SSRI dosage. I’m not sure exactly what is helping most, but I’ve been doing much better for the past month or so. I hope you can figure out some ways to control yours. ❤️ ETA: I’d probably ask your GP or gastroenterologist about what they think of SSRIs for IBS - I think psychiatrists are fairly focused on the mental health aspects. When my doctor first suggested it, I read up on it and was surprised by how much peer-reviewed literature it out there supporting it. FODMAPS is also really well supported clinically as a way to control IBS, but I struggle with strict nutritional plans.

Happy mother's day ladies.
We spent the morning at the children's museum and the afternoon at urgent care. Looks like a knee sprain, my mini can't put weight on it (but was still asking to go to the playground).
I haven't had a single actual meal yet today and it looks like my dinner will be fast food after bedtime.

Well. Now I feel like I wasted $100. Sorry, I was really close to spending $2-300 on it myself before I learned more. I guess I am going to have to try food journal/elimination diet again which can be such a pain. I hope you feel better soon.

My children showered me with homemade cards. H had taken the boys to get hanging baskets and new hooks for them (he listened!!!). Then I slept because I tried to be a tough gal and didn’t take my pain meds last night. D1 did the laundry. Steaks, twice baked potatoes and roasted broccoli for dinner. To top it off, I got to go first for “favorite part of the day” at dinner - which is a big deal here.

Oh fatpony that sounds like a day for all days. Let alone for a special day. I hope you at least devoured and enjoyed the late night dinner. Work was super short staffed and we got slammed with a handful of preemie admissions, and we were joking “Welp, it’s Mother’s Day, so of course we’re gonna have to work our asses off.”

DD is mostly better. She seemed to have a little limp but didn't complain about it hurting and was ok walking and standing this morning. She must have known I was on the edge of sanity after not having much sleep for days/weeks because she slept from 7-530 with only a squawk here and there.
My "dinner" was a whopper.
I'd like a do over of the last few weeks. I just want to catch a break, with her being sick or injured and my husband with his mental health/health stuff, like, I am just losing my mind trying to keep everything together.
I could have used a steak.

I'm playing catch up after having my parents visiting all weekend. Been a hot mess all morning after bringing them to the airport for their flight back to MA - Mom just texted me they are getting ready to board (the shuttle from Boston was delayed), and they saw Elizabeth Warren as she left the plane!

I didn't realize the new Cruella movie had Emma Thompson in it. And a new song from FATM. And it comes out my birthday weekend. There's only one thing to do.

Dd1 graduates high school on June 6, and they're only allowed 3 people to attend- none if it rains and has to be indoors. I understand, but it makes it incredibly hard for her to have to pick the 1 other person to attend after her dad and me. My heart breaks for her having to choose between DH (her stepdad) or a grandparent. Everyone understands and no one is going to feel slighted in the least, but these are the kinds of things that wrack her with anxiety and guilt.
So, I'm tring to plan an outdoor pre-ceremony celebration. All the grands are fully vaccinated, thank goodness. But every time I even think about details, I start to feel weepy. How is my kid graduating already?! So many feels.
Other than decorations, cake, and ice cream, I could use some ideas if anyone has any.

Ls2012, Congrats to her for graduating! My niece is graduating this year, and only 2 parents are allowed. I know she feels bad that her sister (who is 13) isn't allowed to come. I have no suggestions for the gathering. I hope it's a grand time.

This is new. I ordered something shipped via UPS that was supposed to be delivered by USPS. Instead of delivering it to me, I am supposed to go to the post office to get it- the tracking says I have to go to the post office to get it, there was no notification given to me otherwise. Like they just gave up? No delivery attempt was made to me and I did not pick a special delivery option at time of purchase. This is from a website I order regularly from. So bizarre!

So, something similar happened to me. I ordered something from Amazon and then usps sent me an email saying I had to go pick it up as the delivery had “failed.” They certainly didn’t attempt a delivery since we were home all day. Then they brought it the next day and left it on my porch—like normal. So maybe wait 24 hours?

DD2 goes to a nature based preschool and they are obviously talking a lot about cicadas right now and finds it all fascinating. She is obsessed with their wings and keeps bringing me wings she finds on the ground as gifts. I have a little collection and it totally grosses me out.
