I hope it goes well today clucky! I had my first colonoscopy today. The prep was 1000 times worse than the procedure itself. They didn’t see a thing of concern initially which is both good and frustrating that it’s probably just IBS with no real good treatment. But after several people I know have died or diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in their 30s, I’m at least relieved there’s not cancer.

Gluck clucky! I hope recovery is easy? I don’t even know. Just sending you good vibes. And that it works exactly how you want it to!

When I got pregnant with my oldest, everything straightened out and I was super regular even after I gave birth. Then after giving birth this time, my digestion has been fucked up ever since with no changes in diet (adding fiber, stopping dairy and gluten temporarily etc) making a difference at all. It does really suck. I’m honestly a little worried about going back to the office because I will need a bathroom urgently quite often during the day. Ugh. I guess Imodium forever.

Have you tried any specific daily meds? I got worried that I was popping Imodium like candy but my GI doc said it was fine. I was like phewwwww

Have you thought of doing an IgG allergy test or food sensitivity test? I have a family member with IBS and the stuff it's aggravated by is not stuff you would normally think of (green peppers, raw onions, almonds, stuff like that)

addymac I have only used Imodium - not daily, but when things feel especially uncomfortable. My doctor is recommending doing one Imodium in the morning plus a serving of benefiber to see if that helps. Imodium does usually help but it really backs me up, so we will see. dc2london I haven’t tried any of those, no. I know I’m allergic to tree nuts because I have been to the allergist for years. I used to be allergic to dairy and eggs but outgrew those. I’d be really bummed if I found a new food allergy. I don’t even know where to try something like that?

You can buy test kits online, some allergists or labs do them

I just ordered one of the everlywell tests since they had a discount for Mother’s Day.

Thank you so much everyone. Luckily they let H stay with me during, so that was helpful. The pain is being pretty well managed with pain meds, which is pretty similar to the pain from the uterine infection I got right after D4 was born, but without the infection. I was able to talk though much of the procedure prep, but breathing was the only thing I could focus on for the actual time the machine was running.

willow the prep is the worst part, glad nothing was found. I’m interested to see how you feel about the allergy food testing once that comes back. I’ve wondered if it is something I should look into too.

willow hace you heard of the FODMAP diet? A lot of IBS people find relief from adhering to a low fodmap diet. There are so many things on it they make dh miserable to even consider it as a serious diet change but maybe one day…

I'm cautiously excited. Dd2 had a masked park play date with a classmate she's been friendly with since her return to in-person (both we and her friend had chosen virtual the rest of the year). For an hour, they played nicely together which was such a joy to see. But what I'm (selfishly) happier about was that the child's mom is awesome. Pro-mask, pro-vaccine, pro-Whitmer, pro-Biden, pro-policing reforms, smart, traveled, outdoorsy...I am potential mom-friend crushing so hard. I could tell she was trying to feel me out and see if our families were like-minded and safe, and I'm really glad because otherwise I'd have been too nervous to do much more than nod.
Basically, I hope this is the start of a really good friendship for all of us.

I love that ls2012. I've recently started getting my kid together with a mom/son every other weekend because I like her so much. Our kids took a little while to hit it off but it's so nice to hang out with someone you click with.

There are so many things on it they make dh miserable to even consider it as a serious diet change but maybe one day… I just looked it up. I really don’t like strict diet changes like that though, I would honestly rather try to medicate the symptoms. I just hate eliminating food that I enjoy. It sounds silly but I am really happy with the foods I choose to eat both for health and indulgences.
