Thought it'd be good to start off the month with a feelgood story.

I’m only working two days this week. On Friday we leave for a little getaway! My littlest was in the hospital Mother’s Day weekend last year, so I booked this trip on a whim to make it fun and find some joy. Very much looking forward to a break and change of scenery.
And I took Weds/ Thurs off just because I can.

fatpony oh no!!! I’m sorry that is scary! That happened to my DD when she was 18 months and I freaked out. Took a huge dose of steroids to get rid of the hives. Since then she’s added 2 more drug allergies. Fun stuff!

fatpony, I'm so sorry for your little one. I became allergic to amoxicillin as an adult and developed hives all over my body - trunk and all. I think I aggravated the original response by being out in the sun at the beginning. I remember running a mild fever as well. A course of steroids and a lot of Aveeno oatmeal baths took care of it, but I will be honest - for about a week I had absolutely no issues finding a seat by myself on the commuter train. I felt fine, but looked all blotchy, and don't blame the other passengers for finding other seats LOL So far I've had no issues with this allergy - marked all over my charts, but doctors and dentists have found other antibiotics when I've needed them over the years.

She's still covered head to foot - it's actually spread to her face now, it hadn't before this morning.
I'm waiting for a call from the doctor, the on call nurse yesterday put us in as high priority to get a call and an appointment. I think she's going to need steroids because benadryl is doing absolutely nothing.

I think she's going to need steroids because benadryl is doing absolutely nothing. Same with me - doctor started me on benadryl, which was protocol. Even as an adult, when I called the next morning with an update, they fit me in right away. I did not have any breathing issues, but was warned if I noticed anything at all, to call 911. The steroid course did really help. Hoping you get in asap, and that she feels better soon.

Going to see the doctor at 1pm.
no frantic messages from my mom, so I'm assuming that she's generally fine except the rash.

fatpony - I had a similar reaction to amoxocillin when I was a teenager, my body turned into one giant rash, even the bottoms of my feet. Discontinuing the medication was all it took for it to clear up in a few days, hopefully your daughter can get some relief soon.

Doing an oatmeal bath after dinner. Put some anti itch cream on and spiked her apple juice with zyrtec.

The taste is super strong and gross. I’m sorry she’s so uncomfortable. I hope it improves quickly now that she’s off the other med.

Any tips for administering it? She freaks out with tylenol which is just cherry sugar water. Chocolate syrup. I’m not sure if that specifically helps prednisone, but it is the general go-to recommendation. I’m very luck that our hospital makes their own very tasty prednisolone and dexamethasone, 2 steroids that taste terrible when bought at regular pharmacies. If Benadryl isn’t helping and she’s still miserable, you can ask your doctor for aterax.
