We just started last night and binged 3 episodes before I couldn’t stay awake any longer. Haven’t read the thread yet because I’m scared of spoilers. I confess that I had to Google “Mare” because I could not figure out why everyone called her that. MH thought they were calling her “mayor” even though the title is spelled Mare 🤦🏻♀️ I must be an idiot, I assumed Mare was her name. Is it not? Ah, yes sorry. Mare is short for Marianne (at least that’s what Google says) but the spelling had me only thinking about horses.

I thought last night's episode was the last one and I was getting v. antsy in the last 15 minutes because I thought they had a lot to wrap up! My prediction is that it's not who you think it is for most of last night's episode. More under the spoiler. {Spoiler}I think it's John, Lori's husband, who is DJ's father and killed Erin. I think they are both lying to pin it on Billy. I haven't worked out all the details to explain away everything that's pointing to Billy. But something is going on with the gun in the tackle box and the picture Erin's friend has. I think this may be right. Especially with how easily Lori told Mare. 😳

I think Billy is also a victim, and it’s easy to try and pin things on him because he won’t resist really. He isn’t mentally strong enough to handle police questioning though, so he’s better off dead and then having the blame laid on him.

I can't figure out what's going on with that group of teens I can’t either. Do you think they were paid off to maintain a certain story? I don’t get what is motivating them. Especially her best friend. (I know she’s being threatened now, but why is she part of this to begin with?) ETA: I suppose the baby being an incest baby would maybe encourage her to try and protect her?

I am caught up and OMG that was super intense. I agree with the spoiler content that everyone is throwing out. (I don’t know how to hide a spoiler on here so being vague). I knew Lori wouldn’t be able to “keep it from Mare” but she didn’t even try not to spill it. Seemed susp

“I can hold my breath for a really long time, Mommy!”
Ohmygod. It made no sense in the arc of Mare for Drew to get hurt, but my husband had to leave the room for this scene and I was yelling “don’t come back. Oh nooo. Wait. Okay! He’s okay!!!”
Anyway, I have some questions about who did what and when to Erin.

I can watch all the crazy stuff AMerican horror story throws at me, but that bathtub scene was too much for me.

Same here re: the scene with Drew. I told DH if he died, I wasn't watching the rest of the show.

Guys. I am in deep on theories.
I learned from GoT. I do think the answers will be simpler than the grand theories Reddit is going on about.

I found the finale anticlimactic. Possibly because I binged the first 6 and then had to watch this one in real time.

I think so many themes here were done very nicely. I appreciate what the writers did a lot. I just wish they established locations better. All we learn about Brandywine Park is that it’s 13 miles from Sharps Woods so “Erin didn’t bike here.”
....but Ryan did? I read theories that speculated Ryan but nearly all threw them away because if a 17 year old didn’t bike it then clearly a 13 year old didn’t. (Also, he’s a child, Moira would have been with him, etc) so, nearly an hour each way on a bike in the dead of a January night? Stopping at the Carrols at the end each way? 2.5 hrs unaccounted for when his sister would have left the party to go home, his mom would have come back from her event, his Dad would have left the party for the bar and not one adult or sister was like “where’s Ryan?”
I wish the writers had thrown in a “Brandywine Park is close to your house, Mare” or “If Erin biked here, then where is her bike” instead of the line they did use which was “she didn’t bike 13 miles in January.”

joy I think I’m misunderstanding, Ryan didn’t bike from the park to the woods I thought. He shot Erin and then called his dad who moved her body. I do agree about the timeline though. His mom or someone would’ve noticed he’d been missing for that long.
Dylan’s story fell flat for me. They made it seem like something more sinister was afoot. There was already speculation he wasn’t DJ’s dad, which could’ve easily been proven. So why all the intimidation and nonsense?
I actually did like the finale though.

How did the old guy notice the gun was missing if Ryan rode back and put it back the same night?

Same with Dylan. When the friend (I can never remember her name) said “Dylan just wanted his parents to keep DJ.” I was like “oh so she’s still covering something up.” She was not.

Maybe he just didn’t check again for a few days, but it was returned already?

We are told that it is 13 miles from Sharps Woods to Brandywine Park. Erin biked to Sharps Woods so that must be close. But when they realize that Erin was shot in Brandywine Park they conclude that she didn’t bike there because 13 miles was too far. We can only conclude that Sharps Woods is bikeable but Brandywine Park is far. The cops literally say this. But then Ryan biked it. So ....sigh. Why make the statement earlier in show that it’s not bikeable?

How did the old guy notice the gun was missing if Ryan rode back and put it back the same night? yes so much this. He said the next morning it was missing and “now it’s back” but Ryan returned it that very night. HUGE plot hole.

In the shed, he notes the gun is missing. He comes back to the shed a few days later and notes the gun is back with two rounds missing. Mr. Carroll investigates after Ryan visits the first time that night.

I thought this was very well done also. I did not see the twist of the actual shooter.
I agree though that the stories with the teens felt anticlimactic given how much they were building them up. I also seem to have missed the motivation of the Deacon tossing her bike. Was it because he gave her a ride and was worried about it spotlighting his past?
