I've been lurking here - but I had to come say fuck Nate. I am so sad for Ted that Nate did that-he's been working so hard with the Doc to overcome it. I'm also not sure what he thinks will happen - they'll fire Ted and give him his job? Rebecca knows about the panic attacks. He'll be shamed by the public at large and quit? I'm just not sure of his reasoning. I agree his acting is great, and I like the arc, but still - fuck him lol.
I also don't like what they're starting to set up with Roy and Keeley, I like them together so much.

I just watched the latest episode on my lunch break. I wince every time I see Nate spit at his reflection. I hate what Nate has become, but damn if the writers aren't doing a bang up job. I want to hate him but I feel so sorry for him but also I do hate what this will do to Ted.
Do not want a Ted Lasso world where Keeley Fucking Jones and Roy Fucking Kent aren't fucking together.

First of all, I don't think they're setting up Roy and Keeley to break up; I think they're giving their relationship depth and layers. I think they will end up engaged.
Second of all, yeah. Fuck Nate. The actor is amazing because I fucking hate that guy.
This show is so damn good. I'm going to be sad when the season finale is over.

I’m actually really impressed by the way the show set up a world where you believe that Ted and company can fix damage with carefully worded pep talks and just noticing what people need… and then subverted it. The episode where Coach Beard let’s Nate know he’s out of line, and Nate apologizes to Collin only to go after Will, was where it started for me. Most of these people are good, positive, well-meaning people, but realistically that doesn’t fix everything. But also can we fix everything and get a happy ending and all be happy again? K thanks. If they breakup Roy and Keely (which I don’t think they will), party at my house to make protest posters for a small demonstration outside of Jason Sudekis’ house.

I don’t hate Roy and Phoebe’s teacher together, just saying. I adore Keely though and I don’t want her to end up with that douche Jamie.
Nate can go jump off a building. I always found the character grating and now I am feeling smug. They are going to have to write some great flipping scripts to get me to ever like that guy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they break Roy and Keeley up, but only so they can get back together and be even stronger. I 100% think they're endgame. Since the show was written specifically with a 3 season arc/storyline in mind, I am absolutely preparing myself for them breaking up in the final episode of this season. I do hope they make it work in (supposed) third and final season.

I read today that George Wendt is Jason's real life uncle (brother to Jason's mom) and that there are many allusions to Cheers in the series, some of which I had picked up on (like the way they yell HIGGINS ala NORM) but just thought it was a nod to a show Jason loved. Sure do love those little easter eggs they plant along the way.

I found out yesterday and Higgins and Mrs. Higgins are married in real life as well. Cute.

Well, I love that! I’m breezy if they break up, because I think they won’t end the show without them together. I actually like the teacher a lot, but not for Roy.

I hate what he did, but Nate’s storyline this season has been incredibly well paced. There has been foreshadowing and certainly a downward spiral that’s played out since almost the start of the season. I am hoping Roy and Keeley can work it out bc I love them so much. I'm caught up now so I can participate! I agree with Nate's storyline and the foreshadowing. That's one of the things I really like about the show is how they foreshadow things and also how they reference back to things that happened in earlier episodes without explicitly calling it out with a big flashing, neon arrow. Like when Sam talked about driving in Colin's car and how it was scary/exciting because he didn't know how to drive it and then in a later episode, it takes Colin forever to get out of the parking lot. Or even how Ted continues to bring biscuits but they don't talk about it, just show it. I love that continuity.

So many lines made me lol, but for some reason when Beard yelled "Horticulture behbehhhhh!" and when Roy said that his feeling got hurt, I was like, wheezing.

Any idea how long we have to wait for the next season?

Spoilers ahooooy I'm so confused by a bunch of what happened in this episode. - I don't get Nate. I realize he was trying to sink them with that play and was pissed it didn't work. But the outburst at Ted? When did Ted "forget" him? By hiring Roy? I realize Nate is supposed to be spiraling, but he's *so* out of touch with reality that it took me aback a bit. I kind of get it. Nate's whole thing is about how he never gets affirmation from his dad. And Ted came along and acknowledged him and gave him a place at the table. And then when Roy was made a coach, he felt threatened because Roy also has deep, real-deal football knowledge when before Nate was the only one on staff with the good ideas. And he felt like Ted started listening to Roy instead. I also thought it was well done when Nate told Roy he kissed Keeley and Roy was like 'no big deal.' Like Nate wasn't ever someone to worry about or feel threatened by. I didn't hate the ending with Nate. It'll be fun to have a nemesis on another team. They haven't ever really gone into that too much aside from when Jaime was on the other team. The whole Roy-Keeley situation on the other hand is very dumb to me.

I also thought it was a nice touch that in an earlier episode, they showed Nate's picture that he gave to Ted in Ted's apartment. Goes to show how Nate has made up this whole narrative about Ted not valuing him in his head.

Acting like it's totally normal to tell your boyfriend to go away for 6 weeks was... odd. Right? It wasn't even the telling that got to me, it was the complete lack of emotion around it. I don't know. Overall I feel meh. There were some funny moments and some good stuff, but several things just felt disjointed. I didn’t take it as Nate wanted them to lose. I took it as he wanted to implement this plan and have it be amazing and get credit. Then he thought Ted would take credit when it would work (which Ted didn’t). Then the players didn’t implement it well and he was furious and thought Ted would blame him when it didn’t work (which Ted didn’t). Then Ted’s amazing player management, by letting the players choose their second half strategy and inspiring them, made the original plan work. Nate just threw in the towel and wrote it all off. So Nate was embarrassed because he didn’t trust the players and also didn’t know how to coach them to success. So his response was to behave like a child and throw a tantrum when Ted’s coaching worked. I felt like Nate got so stuck in his victim attitude that nothing was going to make him happy.

I agree with everything you’ve said robotsvswrestlers. Nate was desperate for validation (on so many levels), and his spiraling all came to head this episode. Also, he doesn’t understand or respect what Ted brings to the table as a coach. No, he doesn’t understand soccer, but he does understand people and teams. Richmond needs both Nate’s technical knowledge and Ted’s emotional intelligence. Ted always saw that, but Nate never did.

I hated the Nate storyline for the first 10 episodes of the season. I groaned every time he acted like a twat and basically wrote off that storyline, not realizing what a great payoff it would have. The last two episodes were incredible with tying his whole arc together. Now I want to rewatch the season with the ending in mind. I know I’ll get so much more out of his character development.

Like, she couldn’t go along for the first week or two and then head home early? Also, who plans a 6 week vacation for someone else without running it by the other person first? Kind of a head-scratching fail on Roy’s part. I think when it comes down to it, the show is trying to insert a bit of tension/growth opportunity in the Roy/Keeley relationship, and I’m okay with that. I will be interested to see how the dynamic with Jamie works out in season 3.

I have to say that Jamie Tartt is becoming my Jamie Lannister of this show. Hopefully his redemption/growth arc will not be thrown out the window in the last couple of episodes tho.
(This analogy also tracks in that Bronn/Roy Kent are also similar and both my favorites.)

Watched the finale! I really enjoyed it despite hating Nate with the fire of a thousand suns. I liked how the Sam storyline ended up, I’m glad he didn’t leave. Roy consulting the Diamond Dogs might have been my favorite scene, tied with any scene that the greyhound puppies were in.

Spoilers, yo: When Roy said that the diamond dogs were "cool" and then Ted and Beard were middle school girling out lol I loved it. I absolutely fucking hate Nate, so major props to the actor. That scene where he was angrily wiping the tears while telling Ted off was so well acted. Nick Mohammed said that when he read in the script that Nate destroys the Believe sign, he screamed and fell on the floor lol This was also an amazing episode for Beard. His non verbal acting was ON POINT. Nate is lucky he's still in one piece.

I liked the finale. The Rebecca/Keely couch scene was great too. I’ve loved seeing their friendship and support. Also enjoyed Higgins “a good boss wants their people to leave” or whatever he said along those lines.
They really did set the Nate storyline up throughout the season. It stinks because I wanted to root for Nate’s successes. But, great acting made me start to hate Nate.
Also looking forward to seeing Independent Trent Crimm next season.
