Ok, cnf, it’s snowing here today so I’m daydreaming about camping. Tell me about your camper and if you have any tips for organizing all the stuff, please share! Are the parks there immediately booked like out here or do you just find spots on the go? We have a pop-up that’s about 20 years old but new to us. Last year was our first year with it. I just started going through some of my bins and am hoping I can remove the “emergency Covid supplies” that I had in case one of us came down sick while off the grid.

We’re borrowing my parents’ 30 year old Palamino pop-up camper to go camping at a NY state park for a few weeks this summer. It’s amazing how well those things hold up. If things go well this summer, we may take it off my parents’ hands more permanently. It makes car camping so much easier and more relaxing.

My poor kiddo. We're having him evaluated for ADHD and today we had a regular routine well child check for him. He was so confused by what the nurse was asking him to do and he got anxious and completely bombed his vision test. Then the nurse said he probably needed glasses and he dissolved into tears (she said it in a super neutral way, it's not her fault). We just did an at home eye test with him and he did perfectly. We're still taking him to an optometrist, obviously, but I think he was so anxious and unsure what he was supposed to be doing he couldn't function.
SEEMS LIKE ADHD IS WORTH INVESTIGATING

dc2london, I'm sorry. C would be THRILLED if the doctor told her she needed glasses, I took her to an eye doc because she was complaining of headaches, she cried when he told her she had great vision. Kids are weird.

I don't think we'll be able to get an ADHD dx bc his primary symptoms are some of the sneakier and less talked about symptoms (Rejection Sensory Dysphoria, SPD, perfectionism, executive function challenges). Or maybe it's not ADHD at all, and we are eager to pinpoint what it is. Because it's gone past just anxiety and SPD at this point. Also he constantly makes light saber sounds during school. Like, compulsively. Idk exactly what's going on but this child needs help and I'm going to get it for him.

(Lexapro is a close cousin). it helped him get through whatever he needed and we eventually were able to go off. He is autistic (aspergers) and ADHD with a wee bit of ODD.

Minerva That’s fun to take the camper! I’m amazed at how they can still function after all this time. Not a fan of our mauve curtains but also too lazy to do an update. I bet you will have so much fun.

Re: anxiety, my son takes citalopram and we added guanfacine when his ADHD became an obstacle to learning. A friend was on citalopram and switched to lexapro, she had much better results on lexapro abd few side effects. Since they are so similar, she started feeling noticeably better after just a couple days.

I've been wondering if my middle one is struggling with anxiety. The emotion over some seemingly little things is a lot at times. But it also seems to come out the most around me, so I'm wondering if it's just something I did. I don't know. She's very clingy around me and unwilling to try/do things and gets super hyped about stuff. It was honestly a large part of why we sent them back to school. I needed her to be around other adults and see that things are okay. She doesn't do this with grandparents or even H. I'm hoping to see how things go through the end of the school year and go from there.

I know that my kid acts differently around her dad than she does me. She will stiff upper lip it with him but I get tears and breakdowns. I tell him so he can look for signs but there are times where I really think he thinks i overreact (I dont I'm the 'sure jump out of the tree we have insurance/go ahead and color your hair purple' parent).

Yes I definitely think this is some of it. And adjusting to kindergarten has been a factor. I think she holds in her emotions until she gets home then it's meltdown city over the smallest things. Other times she seems overwhelmed? by seemingly simple decisions. Like she gets upset at bedtime, says she's going to bed and doesn't want stories/songs, but yells out if I'm not in the room. When I say, hey let's sit and read stories she sobs that she doesn't know what to do. It doesn't happen often, but enough to make me question.

So I need to vent real quick and just put this out somewhere. I am currently so livid with my company. When I moved here, one of the benefits I lost was 401K matching, because I couldn't add contributions because non-US residents cannot contribute to most US retirement plans and I am not legally allowed to buy US mutual funds. I was ok with this knowing that for a period of time that money would be tax free under a special re-immigration regime for me when I moved back, so I was just going to take the 10% penalty and cash it out when the time came. Well I am ready to cash it out knowing the penalties in the US. (If I kept it the gains on the account would be taxable in Portugal at about 40%- which would be money coming out of my pocket) so obviously I do not want to do that. I just want a clean break. I no longer work for the US entity of my company. I work for the UK corporation under a Portuguese entity. I tried to initiate the withdrawal to close the account and was told I can't because I am an active employee of the US corporation. SO I figured oh its just an error because I used to work for them. Nah. They consider me an active employee.
So I cannot: - Contribute funds - Receive the benefit of employer matching - Choose my own investment strategy because I can't buy mutual funds or any mixed assets - Can't roll it over to another individual account because I still work for them - Can't receive financial advice from the plan administrator because that's illegal non-US resident purposes - Use my own 100% vested funds for anything
my options provided were: I can take a loan against the amount (no idea how this is helpful) I could leave my job I could try to apply for a hardship withdrawal except that still doesn't empty the account so I would still have tax obligations in Portugal
I AM LIVID

blurnette989, why can't they officially transfer you so you aren't part of the US corp? That sounds like a load of BS

I just went to take a big drink of my new filled water bottle but apparently neglected to screw the lid on tightly. I now look like I peed my pants AND leaked milk on one side.
I'm swamped so running home to change is not an option.
Its been a REALLY LONG week.

So basically, it's a wire for your wireless headphones? I do not Apple. But huh.

This makes me laugh. I love my apple products but I have not purchased airpods for this exact reason -- I want a wire so that I am less likely to lose them. So I have the Beats ear pods instead because they connect behind your neck.

girl... I saw some not apple brand last year. It's a strap for the air pods they made people get when they removed the thing for corded ear buds. #moneygrab
