I’m proud of you, too. I think we have had some similarities and I’ve thought of you often. I hope you have the same experience I have had with starting meds!
It took me a week for the symptoms to go away, and it’s been smooth sailing since. I still get anxious occasionally, but it’s not as intense or physically taxing. My doctor said it would take 4 weeks for MH to notice a difference and it would take me 8 weeks. It’s incredible how much the anxiety was crippling other aspects of my life, even when I didn’t feel anxious.
I’m crossing everything for you that you react well to this rx and can feel great again. Keep us updated!

peppapig how are you feeling? I was prescribed Zoloft and have been on it for 8 days now. The side effects were intense at first, mostly foggy head and sleepy but I noticed this weekend that I felt pretty energetic and didn’t have that fog. I am feeling lighter and not sure if it’s already the affects of the medicine or just knowing that I’m taking control of things.

I felt like a zombie with the foggy head and constant sleepiness. It was weird, but the first night I had the jitters and couldn’t sleep, and so many intrusive thoughts were in my head, but the subsequent nights were better. Today was day 10, and I’m still kinda tired, but much less so. I still have some anxiety, I’ve noticed, so I don’t know if the med still needs to take effect, or I should try a higher dose - but I’m going to stick with the 5mg for a bit before I up it. I’m so glad to hear you feel lighter! I’m sure we’ll feel so much better in the coming weeks. Please keep checking in! We can be anxiety med newbies together lol.

peppapig do you have a med check follow up to discuss with your primary ? I started on 5 and then she followed up 4 weeks later with me. I’m on 10mg and have been for about a year and a half. I have to follow up every 6 months. One thing she made note of and my therapist as well, some anxiety isn’t bad, it’s natural. It’s can you manage your anxiety without it wiping you out essentially (or in my case causing panic attacks) with the dose you are on of meds/therapy.

peppapig yes! More than happy to share the experience. Today I was very slotted as I was restless last night. Not sure what’s going on with that but hoping for a more restful night tonight. Anyways! Glad to check in and hope that we both feel progress. I’ll check back with my pcp in 4-6 weeks about doseage.

And thanks for the reminder that some anxiety isn't bad - I don't know why, but I almost half expected the clouds to part and sunshine to come shining through, lol. But I do notice that I feel like I can manage my anxiety better.

I've been taking it in the evenings for now, but we'll see if that keeps up. It'll be 2 weeks this Saturday, so maybe I'll schedule a virtual appt with my doc at about the 5 week mark. Thank you!

But I do notice that I feel like I can manage my anxiety better. So my thoughts when I started was I was suddenly going to start feeling like old me. That didn’t happen and I was confused. I felt less anxious but still. I had to increase my dose to feel like I wasn’t managing my anxiety, I could acknowledge it and ignore it (mostly). Idk if that makes sense. My initial and final lexapro dosage was a lot higher than yours is. So maybe ask if increasing dose will help. If it’s too much you can always go back down. Also remember lexapro isn’t the only med. I plateaued with lexapro and had to switch meds 2 more times before I got to a point where I am stable and feel happy and normal anxiety.

Hey peppapig don't get discouraged, it takes around 4-6 weeks to fully work. The way I understand it is that an ssri, select serotonin reuptake inhibitor, slows down the reabsorption of serotonin so that it has time to build up to a normal level in your brain. That can take a bit of time. In my experience, after the initial start and side effect period of a week or so, I started to feel relief that continued to get better with each week or day with a majority of the improvement at about a month and full effect peaking at about 3 months. After that first 3 months, I increased when I wasn't where I wanted to be and saw no further improvement but some drs may suggest upping sooner than that. It just made me nervous so I wanted to titrate up very slowly. I think it's very promising that you're seeing some improvement after just 2 weeks and while it is normal to have a certain level of anxiety, I think you've still got a lot of room to improve and you will be feeling better before you know it. Keep a close eye on everything you're feeling and keep an open dialogue with your doc, and us too if you'd like!
