Of the Bridgerton books I have read, Anthony's (book 2) is my favorite. NEWTON! KATE!

My disappointment has been Arsenic and Adobo. I feel like a huge outlier on this one since the reviews up are overwhelmingly positive, but I think the police officer’s immediate jump to assume the main character is guilty or, even that there was a crime committed, was really frickin strange (no spoilers! That all is in the blurb!). Honestly, I don’t read many cozy mysteries though, so it could just be a genre thing. Really quick read though, I finished it in an afternoon. Now I’m starting the Peter Grant series based on good reviews pretty much everywhere. I laughed in the first paragraph so it is a strong start! I love the Peter Grant series! I got a bit burnt out on them and haven't yet read 7 or 8 but I'm planning too. I just read What Abigail Did That Summer which is a YA featuring the niece of Peter and set in the same universe and now I'm ready to dive back in. Foxglove Summer, the fifth book in the series, was my favorite so far. I’m excited about them! I bought the whole series, which is unusual for me, because THREE of the authors I follow recommended them. The only other series I know of that so many of my favorite authors like is Murderbot and I know you recommended those as well!

I don't know if we've talked about Penguin Randomhouse rewards here. If you buy any Penguin books, you can enter them in on their website and once you've purchased 12, you get a free book. I just hit my 12 yesterday and ordered The Dictionary of Lost Words, it came out today!

I know it’s a less expensive copy, but it’s still a book and one that was bought so maybe?

I read Don’t You Forget About Me this weekend and really enjoyed it. It was a nice, quick romantic comedy.
I just finished The Death of Mrs Westaway and liked that as well but not as much as some of her other books. It was interesting enough but sometimes being only in one characters head can get exhausting.

Did anyone here read The Lost Apothecary? Oh that book was a HUGE letdown for me. I’m so sad about it. I finished it yesterday and I still can’t stop thinking about what it could have been. It could have been amazing. The blurb sounds fantastic.... murder, mystery, a little bit of magic perhaps, revenge on terrible men.... but in reality, I kept waiting for it to get interesting, and it never happened. Blah. It left such a bad taste in my mouth. And the cover was gorgeous too 😭😭😭 SUCH a letdown. I don't think we're alone, I remember someone in the last thread mentioned it, but I forget who. I'm still so annoyed. I enjoyed the historical parts more or less, but the contemporary bits were SO boring. And the writing was just bad. angelashly , H got that one for his BOTM, so I get to read it too lol. And my sister got Arsenic and Adobo, I got Libertie. At some point they'll realize I got them on board so I could use them. Damn! I'm reading it right now - I'm about 30% in and it is just ok. Bummer to hear that it never gets better.

Just finished The Sanatorium and came here to tell you all how much I didn’t like it. Hoping to spare you some frustrations. It was a good idea in theory and the perfect setup for a spooky mystery.
But the writing wasn’t great, the characters flat and unlikeable, and the plot ended up just being bizarre. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I kept hoping some grand plan would pull it all together but nope. Highly do not recommend.

It had so much potential but the author just pooched it up at every turn. tatorhead328 also live blogged her hatred for the book, I think in the last thread lol. You’re definitely not alone!

It took me awhile to get through The Four Winds, by Kristin Hannah. It was harder for me to get into initially than some of her other heavier novels (The Nightingale, The Great Alone). Once I did, I really enjoyed it and thought that the ending really came to an excellent climax with both the plot and Elsa and Loreda’s character arcs. Agreed on all points! Slow to start, but once it picked up, I really enjoyed the story. I also knew almost nothing about the Dust Bowl, and found those facts/references very interesting.

I think in the FB group, someone said you can't earn points on early releases until they're out? I've never tried before, but it wouldn't let me enter Arsenic & Adobo yesterday. I'm going to try again on the release date and see what happens!

It’s in my basement and I was feeling too lazy to go and get it so I could scan the barcode lol I guess now there is no hurry and my laziness wins! Are there any other publishers that do something like that? They must not accept children’s books? Or at least not the Bluey books I just got my kids for Easter. Boo!! I mean, I can understand because they are so much cheaper than books for adults, but I was excited to try it because Arsenic and Adobo is the only other book I have that I bought less than 30 days ago, and they won’t go back earlier than that for new members.

I started Anna K on audio today and I am really enjoying it. I’ve never read Anna Karenina, but this is a YA retelling and I’m about an hour into it. Just downloaded this. I usually don’t do audiobooks but it’s our spring break and my kid and I have like 12 hours of drive time in the next few days.

Reading the newest Leigh Bardugo Grishaverse right now, Rule of Wolves. I like it but so far it’s just really making me want to watch the show. I read 7 books last month, nothing really stood out. I’m reading this too. Loved the first one and Nikolai’s character, but haven’t really gotten sucked into this one yet.

I’m reading this too. Loved the first one and Nikolai’s character, but haven’t really gotten sucked into this one yet. Nikolai was probably my favorite character from the original trilogy (Kaz is my favorite for the Grishaverse overall)! This duology seems to get a little too bogged down in politics and court intrigue for my taste but I am still enjoying it. Not blazing through it like I did with Court of Silver Flames but hopefully it will pick up as I get more into it.

I won a giveaway on Goodreads! It’s the paperback of Pretty Things by Janelle Brown. I haven’t read a physical book in...a decade probably? But I’m still excited to have finally won something lol.

i finished eight perfect murders and really enjoyed it up until the end, which seems to be happening a lot lately. it just seemed to wrap up too fast and too neatly to me. switching it up and starting all adults here. i’ve read one other by straub and liked her style. i also enjoy family dramas from different points of view so i am hoping i won’t be disappointed.

Twice Shy was so cute. It’s really a sweet little story and I flew through it. I love the author’s writing (she’s so genuinely funny, which is hard to find in romcoms!) and she will be an automatic read for me from here on.
I’m taking a break from my romance binge and am going to read Eight Perfect Murders next.

caer I’m so glad you enjoyed Twice Shy. I don’t have it yet but it is one I will definitely be getting. I thought her first book was legitimately funny, too adelbert I finished the first Peter Grant book and I really liked it!! I’m going to start mixing them in with my other books and try to get through one every two weeks or so! Did you read the new Abigail one as an e-book? The only hard copy I could find was one of the Subterranean Press copies for $40 so it looks like I will have to wait awhile for it to have a normal print.

Yes I read it as an eBook but I think it's easier for me to get his books here as I get them from the British publisher. Right now the print version costs 11 Euros here. I'm glad you liked the first book! I think they're great comfort reads.
