Maybe you'll end up with yearly babies in the backyard like us! Ooooo I would love that! Do you have string lights up? For some reason that's a super popular place for the hummingbirds in my area to build their nests; my Nextdoor is full of pictures of the nests on string lights in the spring. Maybe because it’s away from other predators?

And ridiculously small. But they're flexible so they somehow fit even the grown chicks. I don't remember if I ever shared the pic we had twins in the next but it was hysterical and amazing.

Love our hummingbirds. I We have 2 that are on our feeder every year. We tried putting up a second feeder, but they prefer to fight over the one. It's like kids. 😉

We ar eat the part of the year when most of our garden bits die off. Will likely let the chickens in the garden to tear it up and plant some clover or buckwheat to add to the soil and starting planting again in october. One of our hens is broody, so my neighbor gave me fertilized eggs, but I just candled them on day 9 and not a single egg is developing. Normally i'd shrug it off but I really wanted baby chicks.

Aww man, that would be cute! I’m feeling very unmotivated about a winter garden this year. I might just cover crop it and leave it be. I do have some buckwheat seeds I could toss out there. Or we could lean into the Portuguese and plant favas.

MH made them once and he forgot to take the inner layer off. So he shelled them, but then you have to steam them and the take that layer off and it was just so bad lololol.

Not exactly gardening, but - does anyone have advice for someone who just had their lawn seeded and aerated for the first time last week? The guy said to water 15-20 minutes each spot every other day, but what I've read online says daily until it germinates... we're supposed to get rain this week so hopefully I've done OK watering this past week, but any advice is appreciated.
Also, damn birds keep eating the seed.

Also, damn birds keep eating the seed. The soil just needs to stay moist until the seeds germinate and grow up a bit. Whether that means watering every day or every other day will depend on how quickly your soil dries out, so just keep an eye on it and water accordingly.
