My dad got his first dose today.
He celebrated by going to chick-fil-a, and after sitting in line for a loooooong time.... Realized he was at in-n-out.
Abbott opened everything, and my FIL tested positive yesterday. So things are going swimmingly in TX

I was annoyed this morning when I was scrolling FB. Apparently a mom was complaining about virtual school. And that her kids weren’t back. Our schools are doing 4 1/2 days now. Apparently she refuses to send her kids to school wearing “a piece of cloth” on their face. 😡😡😡😡 I cannot with people saying this dumb shit a year into the pandemic. It's just a piece of cloth, like you said, just wear it!! Ughghghghghgh.

Not that it would be even a drop in the redemption bucket, but if trump had even only (a) pushed mask wearing and (b) announced he was getting the vaccine, that could have gone a long way in getting some of his followers to at least consider those options. Aargh. By simply a stroke of fortune, I was picking up some diabetes meds at my local Walgreens and they had a cancellation right then. As I was paying, one of the techs asked if I would like the shot - I've definitely eligible in my state since late January. So I said yes and feel unbelievably lucky and blessed. The tech said giving shots is the most joyous job they've had all year. I think their COVID software scheduling system is still screwed up. They couldn't schedule my second shot, which is generally done right away, but promised they'd get me one. I really felt for the staff. Not only are they busy with 'regular work', now it's the COVID vaccinations and all the people with questions about why they couldn't schedule. Some people are terrified they messed up due to lack of tech skills; others are acting as though the local staff were programming the system themselves. FWIW I saw my internist yesterday - he told me to get whatever vaccine was offered to me as quickly as possible. He did not consider J&J to be the 'off brand' vaccine, so to speak. And I'm considered a high risk patient. I'm so glad you got your first dose!! I know you were really trying to be respectful of equity and I'm glad an opportunity presented itself.

I can't remember if I posted about this yesterday or not, but yes, this literally just happened to my BFF mother. She spent an entire weekend freaking out bc of an abnormal mammogram and then she finally spoke to her Dr and they were like, "Oh, it's just from your vaccine"

I’m so impressed with all of these updates. I have a little vaccination envy as our county is still tier 1A and as of tomorrow teachers will be added. Same. It's amazing to me that some areas have teachers getting their second doses and they haven't even started vaccinating teachers here.

I don't know how many states this affects. fancynewbeesly , does this help you out at all? I can't remember. This makes me happy. DCP was told she was eligible, but can't find a place that will actually schedule her for a vaccine. I hope this changes that.

I hope that they open up child care eligibility to nannies. I want my nanny to be able to get one since otherwise she’s end of the line as a healthy 23 year old. But she works for both me and then just started with a new family on Thursday’s and Fridays so she’s getting double exposure, even though we all WFH. Currently our state will only allow licensed in home child care workers not nannies.

Oh my god. This is amazing. I am so happy to see this. They just said here general pop can expect to start making appointments by mid to end of March (probably for the next month). It feels like it might actually end sometime! Also am selfishly super excited that I may not have to push our Hawaii trip back!

I know everyone here know this but this is an important thread on why ending these mask mandates really puts retail in a no win situation. It’s just awful.

AND, Texas ranks last in the country in vaccines administered per month.
I have no idea when I can get a vaccine. I'm not even eligible to sign up anywhere yet.
But yeah let's open everything back up and not require masks. Makes perfect sense.

I work in retail and am worried about when they stop the mandate here. We already have people coughing on managers as they are kicked out, we don't need to let these people have free reign to ignore stores requests that they wear masks. ::Can't wait to get my vaccine::

Our Governor today said we're trending with cases and vax rollout to have a somewhat normal (masks still, he isn't about to lift that and distancing) summer. I cried.
I saw a comment on an article about the Texas lift that called Oklahoma Colorado's condom protecting us from Texas. I'm so sorry TX friends <3

Ours isn't until October but I was (and still kind of am) worried H wouldn't be able to get a vaccine prior to that. But now I am more hopeful than I was.

For Illinois seniors first, then opening to others in 1B, 100,000 appointments opening this Thursday for United Center federal mass vaccination site. I understand they could do 6,000 shots a day at max, seven days a week, for eight weeks. Vaccine comes from federal allocation, not vaccine distributed to Illinois '"Appointments will only be open to people 65 years and older," Arwady said. "Appointments will stay open only for seniors, people 65 and plus, from Thursday at 8:30 a.m. all the way through Sunday at 4 p.m. So Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday is the time that if you are over the age of 65, you know someone over the age of 65, please help them get an appointment." "Then, once we get to Sunday, if we don't see all of the appointments taken by people over 65, starting 4 p.m. on Sunday is when we would then open up to people with underlying conditions," Arwady added.' linkThank you for this link! My nanny’s husband is still stressed bc what if we bring it to her and she gives it to him, even though DH, I, and her have the vaccine. Sigh. He’s like 64. I’m gonna be all over that website at 4pm on Sunday 🤞🏼

It was announced today that teachers and school staff can get vaccinated on Monday! I don't have dates for my district yet but hopefully soon. I know some people are already trying to get appointments through the hospital and Walgreens because they're tired of waiting.

I know everyone here know this but this is an important thread on why ending these mask mandates really puts retail in a no win situation. It’s just awful. This is a little misleading. AFAIK we will still have signage up that we want customers wearing masks and will have them to offer to them. Ask them to wear one. If they refuse they refuse. The only difference will be the sign that says 'due to local ordinance'. And if a city starts a mandate, that would help. We have never been able to throw a customer out for not wearing a mask. We could ask them to leave. If they don't, they don't. We can't put hands on customers nor can we be calling law enforcement. They wouldn't come anyway.

I'm just bothered by the comments I'm seeing there. Our company wants everyone to wear masks. Especially customers. Those comments make it sound like we don't GAF if they wear them and that's not what the statement says.

Sorry if I'm acting a little unhinged. I'm very pissed about all this. You don't sound unhinged and I personally don't think it's fair to essential workers to put them in that position - especially when many of them are getting shafted on vaccine eligibility. Twitter comments are frequently a hellscape of people being willfully obtuse.

LA county is opening it to food service and librarians who work with kids, so FX my SIL and BIL can find appts soon. Also other SIL got her second trial dose today. Hopefully it’s not placebo! We are getting there!
