I’m a lurker, but I guess I really need to subscribe to WaPo. Everyone provides awesome articles and links and then I can’t read. Ma'am you are no lurker 😘 Fine, fine. An inconsistent poster who pops in and out.

Re: vaccine morality, it can be a serious concern. I'm not necessarily talking about the stem cell line with J&J bc it was harvested so far in the past, but a dr friend of mine here has serious ethical issues with talk of the Sputnik vaccine potentially being used in Germany. She says they skipped all animal testing and went directly to humans who were not appropriately informed of what was happening. I mean: if a vaccine that was produced unethically means fewer people will die, do you buy some? Again, the J&J thing is an entirely different issue, but vaccine or general medication development ethics is a valid matter to discuss. PDQ: poof

lemondrop, do you mean that you think the sputnik trials were shady? or it isn't effective? or just not trusting anything related to that vaccine?

Thank you - it was really literally being in the right place at the right time, by accident. I'm really hoping that the shipments really do increase in volume and scheduling reliability so the anxiety of the process can be reduced and we can really make a dent in these prioritized groups and head to the general population. All this refreshing of computers (if you're lucky enough to have one) is no way to run a railroad, you know?

I've said several times that it might just be a knee jerk chauvinistic reaction, but I remain leery of A-Z working with Sputnik, as I read about. That might be the vaccine I'd give a pass to, and hang tight for something else. I freely admit I may have read this whole thing wrong, and I know the FDA has to approve any vaccine given in this country. www.reuters.com/article/health-coronavirus-astrazeneca-russia-idUSKBN28L0YQ

lemondrop , do you mean that you think the sputnik trials were shady? or it isn't effective? or just not trusting anything related to that vaccine? There was little transparency when it came to development and a lack of published trial data, and as such, they don't believe the efficacy is truly over 90%. There's a chance that it does help and is a legitimate vaccine (and hopefully it is because multiple countries have purchased the vaccine from Russia) - but the shadiness in their process and their results are questionable.

My county recorded only 9 new cases yesterday. We've been averaging 20/day for the past month when it was previously well over 100/day. I don't want to be hopeful, especially with variants out there, but I am.

I'm due for my ob/gyn annual in early April. Already got an 'general patient' email saying that that depending on when a patient receives vaccine, routine mammograms may be rescheduled/delayed a bit. But that if anything looks really amiss to the doctor, the patient will be sent for a mammogram right then.

addymac, thank you. I was really amazed at the feeling of relief once I was sitting in that chair getting the shot. I had been prepping myself to wait til April or later, but I'm so happy that the stars all aligned at that point. Fifteen minutes earlier or later, might have been a whole different story. Of course, my daily life won't change that much, but I really do feel a little less tense already. Now I just want everyone to be able to make an appointment without stress.

One of my bff's who has a child with ongoing serious health issues (serious as in has required a 24/7 nurse for years) just got her first shot the other day. It makes me so happy to see.
I love every single post here about someone being able to get the vaccine.

As I was driving home from the pharmacy, two stories on the radio. First 'not out of the woods yet, let's not go crazy lifting restrictions just because a small part of the population has been vaccinated' basically; immediately following - restaurant association wants to increase indoor dining to 50% capacity right now.
I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.

So Greg Abbott just ended the mask mandate here in Texas and said all businesses can open at 100%.
I would like to punch him in the face. Hard.

For Illinois seniors first, then opening to others in 1B, 100,000 appointments opening this Thursday for United Center federal mass vaccination site. I understand they could do 6,000 shots a day at max, seven days a week, for eight weeks. Vaccine comes from federal allocation, not vaccine distributed to Illinois '"Appointments will only be open to people 65 years and older," Arwady said. "Appointments will stay open only for seniors, people 65 and plus, from Thursday at 8:30 a.m. all the way through Sunday at 4 p.m. So Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday is the time that if you are over the age of 65, you know someone over the age of 65, please help them get an appointment." "Then, once we get to Sunday, if we don't see all of the appointments taken by people over 65, starting 4 p.m. on Sunday is when we would then open up to people with underlying conditions," Arwady added.' link

GDI, Abbott. I'm only 40 minutes from Texas (and the closest city is in TX) so this is going to directly affect my county.

My MIL got her shot yesterday as did a younger cousin of mine that is very high risk. A lot more people I know in my state seem to be getting vaccinated and it makes me happy.
We are also getting over 17k J&J vaccine tomorrow so that's 17k more people vaccinated.
I don't want to get my hopes up but I am feeling optimistic about the number of vaccines my state has distributed and that our case numbers continue to decline. We had less than 200 cases yesterday and my county only had 10 cases.

I’m so impressed with all of these updates. I have a little vaccination envy as our county is still tier 1A and as of tomorrow teachers will be added.

I am shocked at our numbers on the dashboard though. 187 new cases today, but that is so stark from January. And 2/3 of the criteria are in the Orange level, and the 3rd is barely over the purple threshold, so dare I say it could be lowered to red in a few weeks.
