Did anyone else have a good long ugly cry thinking about how quickly life changed a year ago? Just me?
On the positive side, I’ve gotten my first dose. MIL & FIL are scheduled for this week, H qualified due to work and will also be getting his, and I was able to find my mom an appointment (teachers in Louisiana are eligible), and she’s had her first dose. So yay for vaccines!

My county finally made it through all of the people who registered for vaccines on Jan 18th with the help of the J&J vaccines! I registered on 1/19, so I’m hoping to be called for an appointment in the next few weeks.

The vaccine HAS to make me feel better than the Jager shots I had on my 21st. Goldschlager, here. Good going down. Not good coming back up. Rallied to go to the neighborhood chinese restaurant for midori sours. Didn't even wake up with heartburn. The 2nd covid shot had me feeling off all day and I passed out at 8:30pm. *pours one out for my youth* Oh my god glodschlager. There's a throw back to high school party hard cnf, lol. Have barfed up a lot of glodschlager. Definitely not as fun coming back up.

I do worry about the impact such statements will have on vax hesitancy. And I wonder if the evangelical churches will follow suit.

I saw a post in a local parents group yesterday from someone considering moving to the area. Before they decided they wanted to make sure they could find a community of like-minded (read: Christian) individuals who support "mask choice." I sat on my hands because... what.

easier the thing about the Berkeley union leader being taped while dropping off his 2 year old at daycare is insane. It’s all over the news here and makes me so mad. It was released by some group called “Guerilla moms” and they are saying more is coming. He’s a teacher. How the fuck do they expect he’s teaching their children virtually without having childcare for his own kid? I get that people are frustrated but following covid protocols in a daycare are a lot different than a huge school district of k-8. And then yesterday I read a story about how one district on the Peninsula is pushing to go back but the district is split with a wealthy area and a non-wealthy area. Schools look totally different in those area and all the reopen talk is being driven by one side. It’s a mess and I think it’s going to get a lot worse with the Governor’s announcement on schools yesterday. Yeah I do not like that at all. Dangling billions of dollars for schools to reopen by an arbitrary deadline - what?? How about the state actually helps them reopen safely, for both students and staff? Ugh. What a mess.

We have much of this, more focused on “best schools”. They mean the same thing. It is always interesting to see some of the same people who 2+ years ago asking why no one told them. Well ma’am, if you didn’t want to be surrounded by a bunch of heartland conservative, Trump supporters, you should have asked differently. It is usually them trying to then sell their home.

elle Thank you for sharing that tweet. I am going to save this portion especially as it is helpful to provide perspective when pro-life stances are taken. "5. If you are "pro-life," presumably you also object to millions dying from a preventable infectious disease as well as abortion."

I was annoyed this morning when I was scrolling FB. Apparently a mom was complaining about virtual school. And that her kids weren’t back. Our schools are doing 4 1/2 days now. Apparently she refuses to send her kids to school wearing “a piece of cloth” on their face.
😡😡😡😡

richard thank you SO much for that website! Because of it, I was able to schedule my vaccine for Thursday. I sent it to a TON of local contacts, and they were able to schedule too. Including my neighbor who is fighting breast cancer. Appreciate you!❤️

Re: vaccine morality, it can be a serious concern. I'm not necessarily talking about the stem cell line with J&J bc it was harvested so far in the past, but a dr friend of mine here has serious ethical issues with talk of the Sputnik vaccine potentially being used in Germany. She says they skipped all animal testing and went directly to humans who were not appropriately informed of what was happening. I mean: if a vaccine that was produced unethically means fewer people will die, do you buy some? Again, the J&J thing is an entirely different issue, but vaccine or general medication development ethics is a valid matter to discuss.

I wonder if the state is even scheduling those. It is such a mess here. To the bolded, I can't remember what state you're in but for MN, you do have to click through the link into the pharmacy's site to find the appointments and schedule it there. When I've clicked through a couple to test, they've been available like listed on the site.

We are working hard to get the vaccine to you and your family as fast as we can.” Womp womp Also not surprising as our governor is a horrible human.

Not that it would be even a drop in the redemption bucket, but if trump had even only (a) pushed mask wearing and (b) announced he was getting the vaccine, that could have gone a long way in getting some of his followers to at least consider those options. Aargh.
By simply a stroke of fortune, I was picking up some diabetes meds at my local Walgreens and they had a cancellation right then. As I was paying, one of the techs asked if I would like the shot - I've definitely eligible in my state since late January. So I said yes and feel unbelievably lucky and blessed. The tech said giving shots is the most joyous job they've had all year.
I think their COVID software scheduling system is still screwed up. They couldn't schedule my second shot, which is generally done right away, but promised they'd get me one.
I really felt for the staff. Not only are they busy with 'regular work', now it's the COVID vaccinations and all the people with questions about why they couldn't schedule. Some people are terrified they messed up due to lack of tech skills; others are acting as though the local staff were programming the system themselves.
FWIW I saw my internist yesterday - he told me to get whatever vaccine was offered to me as quickly as possible. He did not consider J&J to be the 'off brand' vaccine, so to speak. And I'm considered a high risk patient.
