This is a really interesting look at state budgets over the past 12-14 months, but is also a great example of how most articles are WAY more nuanced than the headline Virus Did Not Bring Financial Rout That Many States Feared nyti.ms/3sHqWpR

Obviously there should be a full investigation into the multiple allegations but I anticipate things are not going to go well for him at all. 😬

AmyG That’s good thinking. I made one of those spaces for my kid in their closet but maybe I need one too.

They just forecast that not only will there be a surplus this year but now also next year. Too bad we still have a divided legislature.

We started discussion at work about wfh, but they were very hesitant at first. I feel for my poor IT guy who had to make sure everyone had monitors, laptops, etc along with login credentials. Oh yes... cheers to the IT heroes. That must have been a shitshow. *remembers how stressed out IT husband was this time last year* Yep. Absolutely nightmarish.

This is excellent news. And it comes on the heels of the House taking up their universal background checks bill.
If gun violence prevention is important to you, please consider calling your member of Congress and asking them to cosponsor HR 8. Large cospinsorships help a bill move.

March 13th is my birthday. DH took me out to this restaurant I had been wanting to visit for years. We drove to VT for the weekend but all the resorts closed after Saturday so we hung out with DH's cousin's family. I remember emailing a coworker about her college aged daughter after we found out both school and daycare were closing temporarily. Smartest thing I did that weekend for sure. I just remember how surreal it all seemed and how clueless we were about what we were in for. OH, hey, we're birthday twins! It was supposed to be the last day of spring break, but it was also the day that our school district announced they would be closed for the following two weeks as well. It was my "oh, shit" moment. The last day of normalcy.

I spent 2.5 years asking my employer for ONE telework day per week, and I only got it in mid 2019 when I pushed back on nonexistent maternity leave policies. Now they're singing praises of our productivity while wfh and I doubt I'll ever work 4x a week in their office again. My work is the same. They are even now considering never having the admin types come back on site. We are still mandatory max telework, but I'm hoping I'll only be in office 1-2 days per week in the new normal. They built H’s agency a new building that only has enough room for about 2/3 of employees to work on a given day. So he’ll definitely be wfh at least 3 days a week. We do our best to not bother him in his office during the day, but it’s so nice having him at home! It gives him an extra hourly his day from the commute and gives me so much more flexibility.

So many. I was reading an opinion piece by a 20 something year old talking about how it’s time to step up and speak out. He said culturally it had been taboo especially with older Asian people and people who immigrated to speak out because they are trying to assimilate and not make waves. This tracks with many of the people I know in the Bay Area, especially my friends parents and grandparents. It’s also similar to what my immigrant family members experienced even being white (Italian immigrants) with respect to attitude towards assimilation. Just do anything you can to fit in and not make “trouble”. It’s heartbreaking and I hope some good can come from the reporting of violence now. I’m scared for so many of my friends right now in a way I haven’t been before. And that is my privilege in that I’ve never realized how hard things are for them. I grew up in an area that is pretty split demographically between white and Asian and almost all the schools I went to were the same. So I just made some assumptions about lack of racism that really are not true. Obviously I knew the big overt things and issues but the daily aggression and racism hasn’t been on the forefront of my mind like it should be.

Fuck that sniveling gym sock. He lost his platform because he was voted out of office. Propaganda and misinformation are dangerous. Private companies deciding not to spread falsities is just good business.

(202) 224-3121 Is it really 95%? That seems improbable. I want to believe it, but the message seems really important here.

The argument is 'they already DO background checks' but thats only true when you buy a fire arm from a registered dealer.

Thank you ❤️ I reported another instance to the school today, and my heart is heavy. A post in the reading thread reminded me of author Grace Lin. She has books for a variety of ages. It’s important for kids to read diverse books, especially if they live in an area that’s not diverse. Books with Asian characters are important to help avoid the “exotic” stereotype or ewww Asian people eat yucky things.

If it helps to here good news, there was peaceful March this weekend in my area that was organized by some middle school students and was very well attended. Covid fear kept me from going which I feel guilty about but I saw lots of wonderful pictures on my timeline of people gathering to speak out about anti-Asian hate crimes.

Zeke: what role did the WH have in the partnership?
Jen: the coming together of these competitors speaks to POTUS' ability to bring people together to rise to the challenge of the pandemic.
Zeke: is this support intended to meet the already promised number of doses or to go above and beyond?
Jen: ideally this would help them exceed the previously promised quantity

Peter Alexander: so you're sanctioning Russia for the Navalny poisoning but not Putin. And you're sanctioning Saudis for Khashoggi but not MBS. Why?
Jen: we're taking a number of steps to recalibrate the relationship with KSA. We've made clear to them that we expect their behavior to change. These decisions were made by our Nat Sec team based on decades of experience and expertise.

PA: Sec Mayorkas asked asylum seekers not to "come now." So they can come later? OPEN BORDERSSS?!
Jen: we're pursuing major immigration and asylum reform but we can't give people who come now the fair and humane process we would like. No we don't want open borders you beautiful dork.
