MH and I have this running gag about the olds in our lives only understanding about a 3rd of the functions of the tech devices in their lives, and that’s how I feel about the Watch so far. Haha It's funny cause it's true. I just got airpods (after an attempted murder from my headphones cord) and am I'm like oh, I understand that watch function now, where before I thought it was pointless.

Bookshelves, I was really surprised how transformative the apple watch is! I had a fitbit like 8 years ago, and that lasted for a very short time, so I was skeptical. I've had my watch 7 months now with no plans to stop. I am in love with my Apple Watch. The Move and Exercise rings really work well for tracking, especially if you combine different types of exercise or just live a more active lifestyle. I have v.3 and it is still going strong after several years of daily use (including lots of swimming).

I’m motivated by shiny virtual medals, apparently, so the Apple Watch works pretty well for me.
Though my eyes rolled out of my head when I saw the extra challenge for this month was to close my move ring 7 times in a row to... honor Black History Month?
Then I did it because I need all the medals.

I need to get more active and eat better. I'm trying to frame it as being healthier overall and not weight loss because I need not to hyperfocus on a number.
It's hard though because 've beeen dealing with nerve pain in my back and cookie season has exploded over my living room.

Haha I had to have my neighbor explain my Apple Watch to me (he is an Old). I love it for hiking because I tend to take wrong turns on our trail system. It also has changed my life with winter sports. I don’t have to take my phone out to check texts or get calls. That saves my freezing fingers in the chairlift.

Speaking of shiny award medals, has anyone done the Conquerer challenges where you virtually exercise the equivalent of various well-know global challenges (ex: Everest)? I need to get myself back into rowing and I wonder if the appeal of a medal will motivate me. www.theconqueror.events/

I was super unmotivated this week with basically everything so I’m hoping some rest tonight and being able to move on my own schedule tomorrow will snap me out of it.
I did end up walking 4 miles yesterday because I walked on the treadmill while on an hour long call. It was my day off BBM but I did a quick yoga for upper body strength.
Today I took a short walk with the dogs, did BBM lower body strength (it was stupid) and a 15 minute yoga for self doubt (much needed).
Tomorrow is BBM cardio and a 20 minute yoga. It will depend on rain but I hope to do a long (2-3 miles) walk with the dogs.

jaygee are you doing the YWA February calendar? I love the calendars because even if I miss my workout during the day, I can at least get a few minutes of yoga in after dinner.

I did the breath 30 day series in January and wanted to keep going so I am doing the February calendar. I’ve always used her YouTube channel for at home yoga but this is my first time following her calendar. I like just putting on whatever she picked out for the day and it’s weird how it often is exactly what I needed.

I'm really sore after a 60 minute bootcamp yesterday so I did an easy recovery run and yoga today.
I stumbled across photos of me from between 6-9mpp and I had dropped all my baby weight and looked really good. I remember feeling really good too. I'll be 6mpp next week and still feel like a pile of yuck right now. Bleh.

This thread was the kick in the butt I needed to figure out a real setup to do what I want to do, so thank you for starting it! (The following is a brain dump about myself only and my own feelings and needs. I feel most strongly that everyone has to do their own best and it's good to have a variety of opinions and approaches.)
I have strong feelings now about weight and health - namely that weight is not a reliable health indicator and many weight-related health issues can more accurately be linked to yo-yo dieting than a blanket status of being "overweight" - and have no desire to focus on it anymore at all. At the same time, I am pretty sedentary currently and I need to move this beautiful able body more, in order to take good care of it and to help relieve stress.
I love riding bike, but as the primary parent of young kids, I can't leave my house super freely. My husband also loves riding, so we ordered a spin bike! It's a Peloton alternative (because fucking yikes to that price tag for something I'm trying out. I have spent too much money on things that I don't love after all too many times to count) but it's a similar setup. The subscription has other workouts too, like body weight exercises and yoga.
I cannot wait to spend more time in my garage! 😆

I got my mojo back today - yay for sleep. I did BBM cardio and then, since the weather is not great today, I tried a tredchic walking workout (with lunges), and then finished with a yoga with Adrienne heart and hips practice. Thanks dc2london for the tredchic reco - she’s a delight. I’m going to walk the dogs later too but not as long as I planned. It’s cold and windy but should be better by the afternoon.

Tried to make a healthy salad for lunch and opened up an avocado I knew wasn’t really ready. So I looked up ways to save an unripe avocado, and saw a fix where you crack an egg in the middle and bake them. It was so good! I’m stuffed now.

I put salt on the avocado, then again on the egg. Then cayenne. Side note: I’d already sliced lines in one half in prep for scooping it out before I decided it was too hard. That one was softer and tasted better than the half I didn’t slice. Also I scooped a little out of the middle because I had extra large eggs.

Oh hi, I am going here now. I've dabbled in the big motivation thread but can't keep up.
During the pandemic I had been eating and drinking a lot, plus no time walking which is part of my regular commute. I didn't weigh myself, but everything was tight and I felt like shit, honestly.
I had twins 2 years ago and my stomach still has quite a csection flap too. They were over 7 lbs each at birth, so my skin stretched a lot. I need to check out this mother app though, thanks for the rec!
Since the new year I've been doing great on food. Something sort of clicked for me.
I started with ~2 weeks of a modified w30 but quickly added in milk for my coffee, cheese (as a condiment not a main meal lol), peanut butter, etc. I've kept going with switching in veg for carbs regularly. My new fave is spaghetti squash cold with trader joes spicy peanut dressing like a noodle salad. Cauliflower pizza on pizza night, etc. I also know I need at least 13-14 g of protein at breakfast or else I am starving. Eggs over sweet potatoes with everything but the bagel seasoning, sometimes greek yogurt. Always fruit too.
I also switched out beer for bubbly water and hot tea for after-kid-bedtime instead of wine. That alone has made me feel so much better. I will have 1 drink on a weekend day, especially wine if we have a nice meal.
For lunches I make big amazing salads and splurge on fancy stuff like pine nuts, beets, avocados, goat cheese, whatever sounds good. I love them so lunch is honestly like a treat.
If I'm still hungry around 3pm I often do an apple with nut butter or something like that. I also like banana chips with almonds and just a few chocolate chips.
I finally feel like the nutrition stuff is clicking for me after years of doing WW or whatever.
I need to exercise more but I am always happy to talk food and recipes!

ktg you are right on the nose with the weight/health thing. We have this conversation on the GD thread a lot because it’s hard to get rid of the number fixation. I have not weighed myself once since about 4 weeks PP this time around and it’s been the best thing. It is so freeing. Finding progress in getting stronger, faster, and my clothes fitting differently is my way of knowing it’s working. I have given up the scale and it’s the best.

willow that is awesome! I also feel more free to pursue "joyful movement" without weight loss as a goal. Just actually moving my body, maybe learning new things like dance, or doing new things like rock climbing. I still need some fitness motivation because my current hobbies are vveerryy stationary - reading, knitting, hiding from my children so I can eat my fancy Valentines chocolate - so reading about what others are doing is inspiring me.

ktg Yes exactly. Also, I mentioned this before but it’s sort of incredible when you realize that one dress size can accompany so many different body makeups. I gained 20 permanent lbs between my mid 20s and right before getting pregnant last year. But I was also the fittest I have ever been (aside from obvious teenage/college aged skinny bitch status) and I still fit into the same size as when I was 20 lbs lighter. The difference was I shed inches but built muscle and man was that an empowering feeling/enlightenment.

Did a 20 min 2000s Pop ride with Cody that was as he called it, actually a HIIT ride. He was hilarious talking about his club days.

I really identify with this. I didn’t set a resolution this year, but my word was “movement,” to remind me how much better I feel when I move (and symbolically to remind myself to move forward from negative feelings instead of dwelling, as I have a tendency to do).

Yesterday went well for me - I reached my step goal and did a short dance workout on youtube. I'm hoping to either get a walk in today or another youtube workout to keep the momentum going. Today is meal planning and grocery day so it's a good opportunity to get lots of healthy, easy-to-grab options in my house so I don't do takeout our of pure laziness.

I got a two mile walk in yesterday, even though it was cold and icy. It’s a bit warmer and very sunny today, so I’m going to drag the whole family along with me on a hike
I started keeping a food journal in the Ate app last week. So far, I like it. It lets you take pictures instead of writing everything down and doesn’t automatically give a calorie count. It also tracks how the meal made you feel physically and emotionally.

We’re in winter mode here, so it’s a lot of sledding and mini ski days. It’s a little frustrating because as soon as I start to feel a bit of a burn, someone gets cold or wet. On the plus side, this motivation thread to get going is working! I ran the last three days for 20 minutes and felt better endurance even from that for today’s ski morning.
If we all keep this up, I think we might be the a fearsome posse of political ladies.

I did two BBM workouts today - a shoulders day and a cardio one that just consisted of squats and 55 burpees (yes, I counted because holy hell). Then I did the YWA for today which was really just breath work but exactly what I needed. It’s gorgeous today so we took the dogs for a long walk. Besides the kid complaining most of the walk, it was quite enjoyable and I hit 10K steps by like 2 pm.
I pulled a lot of lemons off the branch’s of our neighbors tree that hangs over our fence so I made a lemon custard dessert. It’s not too many calories so I’m hoping it quenches my sweet tooth for dessert for the next couple of nights.
