“Many calls and many meetings” That's been what his daily agenda has said every day for the past week or so. 🙄

Alright, who’s rep is this?
A Congressional Republican who has five Indigenous Nations/ bands in his District is working behind the scenes to block the first Native cabinet nominee in US history.
Shameful @reppetestauber!

Have we talked about Rep Porter’s committee assignments? This is a bad look for her and the white liberals crying about her not getting the waiver is cringy. Interesting. Porter is spinning it as she asked for a waiver and didn’t get it, no big deal. She even said “I play by the rules.” This reporting undercuts that statement 😕 ETA: might also explain why she didn’t get the waiver. I saw a story last week that made her look, to me, like a big baby pouting because she lost her bet. She knows the rules, she should know Congressional protocol by now, and she swung and lost - and made herself look bad in the process to me. story I saw www.wsj.com/articles/rising-star-porters-future-on-house-financial-panel-is-in-doubt-11610101801?mod=hp_listb_pos2

I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume a lot of the reporting around this is sensationalist. I don't know Porter, but I know someone who knows her (went to grad school with her, they are still friends) and the person I know is the least dramatic person in the universe, I find it hard to believe she would have remained close with Porter if she was the kind of person being depicted here.

one of my coworkers is heavy into COVID and trump conspiracies. This morning he told me that the jet that flew low overhead yesterday makes him think all this is stages so the US can got to war with China on Wednesday. 1. We live in CANADA. then he's like well US and Canada military is pretty much the same 2. We work beside an airforce base. So like.... that explains the plane? I just can't even wrap my head around how a smart person (he's an engineer) can get sucked into such stupid shit.

Well speaking from the view point of working around very smart engineers, they dont always have the necessary common sense that a non very smart admin asst has

This has nothing to do with anything really but I’m spending my day off reading more of Obama’s new book and I have to say, every time he mentions stuff Joe did or said, I feel immense comfort and relief that this man will be president. He was never even in my top 3 choices for the nom originally but I’m so ready to “bring back better” and at least start the clean up.
It’s weird how a form of constant news trauma has browbeaten us for 4 years that just having someone with coherent and thoughtful words and strategy is such an overwhelming relief.

I took the day off work for the Inauguration because I want to celebrate (and if it goes south, I'm gonna want to be glued to the TV all day anyway). Gonna make bloody marys and get some fancy cheese and make a charcuterie board for lunch for me and MH and the toddler

I saw last week someone saying she chose Oversight over Financial Services but seems like not the case. It’s a good reminder of how leadership keeps people in line and how ambitious politicians are even if that’s not their perceived brand.

A couple things.
1) every time a countdown is mentioned I almost am in tears. Is it really less than 48 hours?! Really?
2) last night my five year old asked if I had his ordinary people change the world MLK book ready to go. this morning he popped into bed with me asking for it and demanding I read it.
I don’t think I knew who Martin Luther King, Jr. even was when I was five. My parents were not liberal then (my mom is now thank goodness, my dad was becoming increasingly more-so when he died).
Anyway, my heart ❤️

Oh another thing...so happy DS and I are remote on wednedays for so many reasons. I think I can hold it together for two brief remote classes but in person? Hot mess over here. Literally zero kids would be unaware of my political nature due to the big fat smile on my face all day long...well maybe not, cause masks!!!

Everything I’ve read in the book has made me feel like between his time in the Senate and as VP, he knows the in’s and out’s of how things work. He was in the room for 8 years of an administration that dealt with the recession and getting the ACA passed I also just saw reporting that he’s been instructing aides to “write it like you’re explaining it to your 75 yr old grandma” which I think Obama admitted was where they fell down with some of the communications in his first term. I’m wonky and like the details/nuance but I’m glad to see him adapting from lessons learned.

Garth Brooks playing at inauguration, I’m happy and a little surprised by this. Nice to see some country stars that are not trumpers.

Andrew Jackson?? I’m surprised Nixon wasn’t on the list.
I read the full EO. It’s dozens (hundreds?) of people. It’s so bizarre. So, it’s a garden where yuu just walk around and look at rows and rows of statues?
