I eagerly await more meltdown videos as these people have their lives ruined on account of their own actions. Party of law and order, your table is ready. And when they become unemployable we should instruct them to take personal responsibility and use their bootstraps no starbucks for you!

Bitch please. Her heart goes out to ashli bobbitt? She’s disappointed and disheartened at what happened last week guys. I know she didn’t write it, but the language used is nauseating. she was the first fucking one listed!! Officer Sicknick is mixed in with those that murdered him!

as someone who lives in a state where the ID freedum foundation obtained voter records, names, addresses and phone numbers then PUBLISHED them so they could more easily identify and target the dems in this state.
i have zero fucks for those on alternate right wing platforms whose personal identifying information has been acquired.

Let’s all take a moment of actual blissful complete silence to reflect on Parler going offline, at least temporarily, while we prep for another day of madness. Parler is not going to recover from this clusterfuck. There's always Gab! 🙄

Oof. Cue chorus of angry people who are doing just that. He didn’t take the time to come up with a better response than that? Surely he knew he would have to address it.

I get why Yang left to have more space *but* phrasing like that is ridiculous when you look at what people have been dealing with in the city since March. Is he going to be able to represent everyone? Students living in shelters who still don't have DOE ipads? Students who are in public housing that still don't have internet? I don't know, I don't think this is the right job for him. It's a hard-ass job.

I’m sitting here thinking about the Parler stuff. And how we are outing the domestic terrorists. And how we are putting them on no fly lists. And how we are getting them fired from their jobs.
And don’t get me wrong- I am here 👏🏼for👏🏼it👏🏼. Highlight of 2021, guaranteed. But where does this lead? What fallout can we expect?
I see 2 groups here. MAGAts- note the lower case “t”. These are people who support Trump, still support Trump, still believe the election was stolen, don’t like what the terrorists did at the capital but see it like we saw violence from this past summer’s protects- ie “I don’t condone it, but I understand why people are so angry and why this is happening” (Please note, I do NOT agree with the above sentiment and comparison but this is what I’m seeing floating around)
and
MAGATs - note the capitalized T, stands for terrorists. These are people who were either at the Capitol or wish they were. They still support Trump, they agree with the destruction, they still think the election was stolen (just like the above group), they think Pence is a traitor, they will go back on January 20.
The first group is large. I’m keeping an eye on FB and a lot of Trump voters are still in that first group. I would guess a majority. I would guess if we had another election today that Trump wouldn’t lose many voters.
The second group is smaller but still significant.
The Parler data thing...what does that lead to? We know both of these groups believe they are the victim. We know both of these groups don’t see anything wrong with their continued support for Trump.
Where do we go from here? Where does this lead? We have 70million people who think this country is out to get them. And that we are succeeding because of the Parler breach, the Twitter bans, the arrests, the no fly list, etc.
I would love to think these people will see the error of their ways.
But they won’t.
So. I hope people smarter than me are planning ahead. Because the history major in me is comparing this to Germany after WWI sanctions. Remember how angry the German people were? Remember how victimized they felt? I think it’s pretty widely accepted that the Treaty of Versailles was weaponized by German nationalists and led to the rise of Hitler.
I am not saying that we should stop anything we are doing. Actions MUST have consequences.
But God I hope people smarter than me are watching this carefully and making sure something much worse doesn’t come out of the anger that MAGAts and MAGATs are stewing in.

Its like arguing with a flat earther.
How do we restore believing in actual provable facts? I mean I have someone in my irl circle that truly deeply believes the whole hilz eats babies and wayfair supplies them to her & co. I will to the end of my days NOT believe that. Just like I will believe the earth is round.

I don’t know. I know there is psychology as to why people believe this, and I have read on it some. It’s fascinating. I am sure there is also psychology as to how to bring these people back into the land of facts and reality. I need to do some researching as to what that looks like so I can employ those techniques on social media. This is something that we will have to put in the work at the ground level for YEARS in order to see the payout. Similar to Stacy Abrams and her voter registration efforts in GA.

It's basically the same process as deprogramming cult members.
- They need kindness, which is often exceedingly difficult.
- They need common ground as a bridge.
- They need outsiders of the cult to be in their sphere of influence for them to have any pull.
Just these things alone are so difficult, but then they also need to want out.

I watched a documentary a while ago called "the brainwashing of my dad". It's very low budget but it was interesting. The way they got her dad out of it was basically putting real information in front of him constantly. I think this was before SM was really bad so he mostly got his information from conservative radio and emails but they said his radio broke one day and they never replaced it. Then they subscribed him to real news that came to his inbox and he just started reading it. This is one reason H will still try to talk to his mom about everything. We always feel like giving up but it doesn't seem like she would get the real information from anywhere else since she's stuck in her FB groups and right wing media. It's definitely getting harder though now with even more out there.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel calls Trumps Twitter ban "problematic" and further says that freedom of opinion is a fundamental right and that [It] can be restricted, but only in accordance with the laws and within a framework defined by the legislator.
I wonder if she knows about our gay wedding cakes.

I'm interested in the data behind what actually changes people's minds. Perhaps for my own sanity, I've been clinging to this tweet lately: but it makes sense to me. Like what ktg said, first they have to even want out. I don't believe mass conversions of these people is the way to go. It gives them legitimacy just like all the "consider the Trump voter!" articles that have been circulating. I'm completely open to changing my mind but I don't believe for a second working with these people is the answer, it's continuing the work in spite of them. Maybe I'm just bitter though.

I wonder if she knows about our gay wedding cakes. How about she lets us do what we can to stop more violence and stops equating white nationalist rhetoric with "freedom of opinion." what makes me roll my eyes is that we do have laws with in a framework defined by the legislator. Come on lady. Trump picked Twitter to express himself. Twitter said no thank you. The man literally has an outlet where he can address the country INSIDE HIS OWN HOUSE.

Domestic terrorism - participating in it or supporting it - is a big red line for me.
And beyond that absolute no-go, I can only try so hard and so long to try to right the ship before I decide I don't want you near me or my kids.

My hope is that by kicking them off Parler where they have centralized, the splinter in to little groups like on Clout.hub and G.ab and over time they create clans and then infight between themselves so much that the whole thing falls apart. This is what's happening in to the flat earthers btw. They got so nuts and on the conspiracy train that everything was a conspiracy even among their own members and they started eating their own. I also don't see a lot of the Boomers being able to keep up with multiple changing platforms all the time. My hope is when they don't have a huge access to the information, they will slowly come out of the fog. I mean a lot of the boomer trumpers I know were reasonable republicans 10-15 years ago, so they are capable of critical thinking when they aren't completely brainwashed.

Why is this so hard to understand?

So social media broke us but social media could fix this. If done right.
Is basically what I’m hearing.
This is also encouraging me to work on toning down the anger I sometimes express in my FB posts. I reallllllly try to be even keeled and factual and kind in my responses but when pushed too far sometimes I get angry.
It would be AMAZING if the DNC would put together trainings and info for volunteers on how to unbrainwash people. We could be doing the work on the ground level. We could be utilizing slack for questions and advice, we could have step by step processes, we could have sample scripts depending on current issues and common themes. They mobilized thousands of volunteers who are now sitting around not doing much. THIS is something we could be working on.
This is fixable in some (probably not all). We have the know how.
