Good Morning! Josie finally has her well visit this morning. I’ll be in the car from Charlie’s drop off to pick up buzzing back and forth to different towns so I told Josie we’ll stop at Starbucks and grab a coffee and a cake pop as a treat. No other plans today.

I'm at the office. I had to go pick up some mini cupcakes on my way in for the office manager's last day. I work until noon and Cadence has already requested that I bring home lunch.

Morning.
So far it will be a slow day at work, if I didn’t just jinx it. I just got my second vaccine dose. MH’s gym is affiliated with my hospital and they found out last week that they are considered contract staff and can get the vaccine as early as next week. We didn’t know if he would be able to if he accepts the job offer we are waiting on and has to report to the base end of month, but he talked to HR yesterday and they will start his pay end of month, but won’t have to report until the day after Presidents’ Day. So he can get his vaccine! I’m glad it’s worked out, but I need to do research before he does because I think I heard people with known allergies are more prone to reactions.
We are waiting on the official offer, but as long as the pay is what we expect, he will probably accept. I’m also glad that he will be here for the entire 4 weeks I will be working FT hours. I can be more selective with my days after he reports.

Morning. I am going to the furniture store in a little bit. I’m going to make a decision and order a sofa. DH wants to order pizza tonight from a local pizza shop. I’m fine with that, except the shop is in the middle of town in a very inconvenient place. I think Friday night is not a good time to order from there.

lahdeedah, wow things are moving fast now! Keeping my fingers crossed. Will you be going to Ft. Bragg? My only experience there was a few days before I joined for a recruiting event. They showed us all this cool stuff like blowing things up as if they'd ever let us out of the hospital.

I’m back. I had time to stop home. I just called and stated the registration for Charlie for kindergarten. I can’t believe he’s of age. Any other 2016-ers going?

I cannot believe it, time flies. This is where I am. I cannot believe it. I also feel this dichotomy about last year that I lost time with just him because Josie would’ve been in school but also gained all this extra time as a family so I saw him grow in different ways.

Educationally, he is more than ready, he went from barely knowing any letters 6 months ago to writing his name, sounding out words, counting, basic adding, etc. However, he still can't master potty training and is still pretty immature. Obviously if he doesn't get the potty training done, then he can't start K anyway, but outside of that, I am struggling the decision I am worried if I hold him back for maturity that he will be bored b/c he is ready intellectually. But I am worried if I send him for the intellectual bit that he will struggle maturity wise. So, maybe?

jewels It's such a hard decision balancing maturity and intellectual readiness, FWIW I have gone through the same thing with both of mine, I don't think there is a 'right' answer. Just take comfort that whatever decision you make, they're never going to know any different being the youngest/oldest in class etc.

Our system is a bit different, school starts at four, literally the day after you turn four, you go to school. So dd has been going since may last year. She loves it! She’ll be in this class until she starts 1st grade in august 2022. Kinder is 1 or two years?

Now that we’re in it, she would have been fine going early and she is fine where she is. I also think it’s super early. You could make the decision over the summer. A lot can change in these 6 or 7 month. What month is B’s birthday? August?

And there will be a lot to explore in the state. I’m coming around to it, I just hope I’m able to find work. ETA: PDQ. Probably delete some info later just in case. Also, Some other contractor we hadn’t heard of reached out to him and we told them our first preference is JBLM. 😉

K registration is in Feb-March here but you are right, I could always register him late. I just feel I have already been agonizing over this decision for what feels like years. He's also tiny (both boys are) and he will be the most immature and the smallest, which I worry about for a boy. S is one of the oldest in the class and still one of the shortest. But I was "too smart" in elementary school and I hated it, and I think it laid a lot of the groundwork for laziness around my studies that lasts to this day. I don't want that for him if he is so ahead starting off. Although, again, all this could be a moot point if he doesn't stop having so many accidents. That will never fly in K. UGH.

We have areas we are looking into, but can’t do any real decision making until Mh gets there and feels it out. Good thing is we can go for spring break week if he does go. One of his old interns works at a school there and offered him a place to stay until we can make decisions.

Totally random, but what chores do you have your kids doing these days? If you have chores for your younger kids, please list those with their ages, too. I need to update mine.

Do they have a GT program or anything where if you decide to wait another year he wouldn't be bored? I know our kids are very similar in regards to being a bit behind. No way would H be ready to go to K in the fall though.

tgrimes the center he's at used to have a solution (they had a 4+ 1/2 day program, so he could have done that in the morning then joined the regular day care class in the afternoon. But with Covid, they shut that down. Not sure if it would be an option next year. As to once he starts school, I don't think he's gifted per se, honestly, I think he's just exactly on track academically for a kid his age. So I don't think that would be a viable option. Also, I think the public school's program starts in 3rd grade.
