I think the first thing I will go back to one I am fully vaccinated is browsing Homegoods and Restore (masked and armed with hand sanitizer, of course). I have a mental list of at least a dozen little household items that I would love to have if I could find the right piece at the right cost. A mirror. A side table. Little shelves. Home decor. Bathroom cabinet organizers. Fancy hand lotion for the guest bathroom. I really miss bargain shopping for that stuff. At Home in Dale City has curbside pickup. It might be worth the schlep.

elle, Minerva, - great points. Odds are, we would be okay. But with all the potential unknown long-term complications (ignoring for a moment the public health nightmare of spreading it to other folks) - it's not a risk I am willing to take for myself, or my family. Nope. The heart and kidney and liver damage scare me too. This virus is a major asshole.

My workplace just issued mandatory covid training - that briefs us in safety protocols. I mean...it might be about 9 months late....

State senator in VA died of COVID at 60. Still preaching to the choir, but what will it take to get some people to take this seriously? . www.cnn.com/2021/01/01/politics/virginia-state-senator-dies-covid-19/index.htmlOn some of my local area SM, we're still getting the 'old and already sick should stay in the basements and let us live free. Living free seems to basically be inside dining and bars from what I can tell, though. In real life, and not that I go to bars or even do much take out, I do see mask wearing at places like Ace, Walgreens, Trader Joe, and people don't seem to have an issue with it. And, on one hand some on SM are disparaging the vaccines, Dr. Fauci, the governor, etc.....on the other, on the same SM, there seems to be a lot of anxiety about how quickly the vaccines will become available.

Because I have no other adults ATM: SC’s positive rate is over 33% today. That’s 1 in 3 people likely infected. Our county, that had been holding steady in mid double digit case per day is now into triple digits. Our governor is doing NOTHING to limit anything.
Our windows are open trying to keep the house cross ventilated as long as possible before a cold front comes through. There’s a huge group of kids playing outside, screaming at the top of their lungs. Including my kids friends. Meanwhile my kids are stuck inside waiting on Dad’s temp to be normal for 24 hours so our quarantine can begin. So not only do they have to deal with the stress inside our house, its very evident in they are missing out on a ton of fun outside.
We’re literally never going to get out of this

So my coworker who works in the OR who is my age with an adult daughter posted on FB that she got the covid vax and her daughter yelled at her for getting injected with the "democrats serum". And there were several comments on her FB about how it was a risk.

I'm so excited for Biden to take office. It gives me some hope and I hope that will mean things looking up in the US.
And generally feeling good about 2021 even tho things are looking dire here at the moment. All of the leaders of our major political parties were caught breaking the recommendations for covid behavior around the holidays -- but I doubt any change will happen as sooo many did it -- went to shopping malls (Prime minister & justice minister & social minister) after stressing that you should NOT go to shopping malls at all for christmas shopping or afterChristmas sales. One flew to the Canary islands and said it was a necessary trip because he had family there. One went on a ski holiday -- so you know -- it's all good -- you can't fire them all so no one is going to lose their job -- well probably the guy who went to the Canary islands because no one likes him anyway.
We don't know if we have the mutation because we don't test for mutations -- we just started now. I'm guessing that ship sailed a long time ago. OUr ICU is full and there is a nursing shortage.
But we have had a nice cozy holiday and are doing what we we can. And Trump is leaving. So there are things to celebrate.

We are at 30% positive locally and my kids were out running around with the neighbor kids when their mom tells me from accross the courtyard she's waiting on her test results to come back after minor symptoms-- she is a nurse. So I have to yank my kids back in the house and be the bad guy who says 'no you can't play with them right now' again.....

I need to market some tiny violins so people can send em out to "friends" when they get covid after doing stupid shit. I’m bullshit for people who are doing everything right and still get sick, and because of these types of folks insistence to be complete morons, their lives are more at risk. This girl is a damn nurse. She used to have some semblance of sense, and then she met her now Trumper H. She got her first vaccination late last week, too, so now he’s saying that the vaccines are worthless 🙄 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤

We are looking forward to traveling to the coast (had planned to before getting locked down again), and visiting friends all over the place.
I cannot wait to book a massage and bathhouse soak once it’s safe, and start going to my yoga studio again.
And yes, I will take a leisurely stroll through target and buy things we don’t need. Ahh, luxury. 😅

I planned an entire trip to Hawaii this week. With excursions, restaurants, etc. I don’t know why, but planning future trips weirdly calms me about all this. I just hope they happen before my kids are in college.

I just hope they happen before my kids are in college. I desperately want to actually plan something. I'm too anxious to actually do it. My cousin is supposed to get married this year (on H and my anniversary) and I hope she can actually do so. It's at the end of August, so we'll see.

Right now, the single best thing I'm looking forward to is my children being back in school next year. That's it. That's my light at the end of the tunnel.

It's extremely rare for a 42 year old to have a brain aneurysm. I'd be shocked to my socks if it wasn't covid related.

Question for those of you (or your fam) who have gotten vaccinated: are you/ they still on track for dose #2?
My mother (ER nurse, MA) told me today that her superiors are saying that they’re going to dose as many people are they can with the first dose, and just “see what happens” with the second. She said that they think it’s safer to have more people with one dose than 1/2 the people fully vax’d with both doses. Which... what the fuck if her hospital admin is doing this. But I haven’t heard this anywhere else and can’t find anything written about it. Is anyone else having this issue?

lemondrop I heard about that idea but don’t remember from where. I know there is the train of thought of “better if everyone is at 50% safe vs less at 90%” or whatever. They’re wrong, but ... yeah. My hospital and DHs hospital are NOT doing that. We’re all already scheduled to get our second doses. They make you sign up basically right after you get the first one. Thank goodness.

lemondrop My sibling and a friend here both have the second scheduled. Different states, different jobs but both should be done with second dose within the next two weeks.

The thread was pretty extensive in the explanation. Did I miss where someone was suggesting aneurysms exist only in a Covid-19 vacuum? Maybe I’m not understanding your reply.
