I can’t remember exactly what my 2020 fitness goals were but I think they were lofty lol. I had planned to really dial in my diving and work towards my cave certification but that was derailed mostly due to not being able to totally wrap my head around it and less to do with my technical abilities. I had planned to do a half marathon and that was derailed due to Covid. Despite those disappointments, I really crushed it at the gym and at home with my diet and nutrition. I am in the best shape of my life and look and feel fantastic, if I do say so myself lol.
2021 I will just try to keep on keeping on. No big goals set, whatever manifests with races, etc will be done on the fly. I am still trying to work on my diving confidence and may or may not pursue cave certification. It’s a hard pill to swallow that maybe I’m not cut out for it 💁♀️

Today started off well with a 60 min peloton ride with Ally and a healthy day of food choices. I am enjoying some wine with DH on the couch right now but will stick to my general rule of 2 drinks only on Fri/sat.

Add me to the turned 40 in 2020 group. For 2021 I plan on cooking more. I have gotten so sick of it, we are living on less healthy choices, which needs to stop. I also plan on taking a minimum of 30 minutes a day to do some exercise and I also want to work this year on getting a stronger core. Really it all goes to the main goal of losing weight and getting in better shape. I have no real pound goal, I just want to feel better.

Happy New Year! I don’t remember what my 2020 goals were, and to be honest, I just don’t care. After that shitshow of a year, I’m happy we made it through it! I turned 40 in 2020, which was a terrible year to do so, but I’m also the healthiest and in the best shape I’ve been in my life. I’m still putting together my 2021 goals, but incorporating more plant-based meals is high on the list. H would eat steak everyday if he could. I also want to improve my weights during lifting, get my muscle-ups (I’ve only managed one so far), and learn to do butterfly pull-ups. Nutrition will be another goal, I just don’t know what that goal looks like yet. I’m excited to ring in the new year with all of you inspiring ladies! You’ve been my motivation to get out and get my workouts done even when it was the last thing I wanted to do. So thank you. Hi fellow 1980 baby! My birthday is mid-March and everything literally went to hell like 2 days before my 40th. I figure it’s a birthday I won’t forget anyway! So much for my big 40th birthday trip/celebration! 😂😭 Sorry you were there too!

Heyyyy, early March 1980 here. I think we get a do-over on celebrating the milestone that is 40, don't you guys? That’s a fantastic idea. All us 1980 gals should do a 40th birthday redo in Vegas in 2022 lol. (Maybe even incorporate a race, since this is a healthy living thread I guess 😂). I love it!!!

cyclegirl I didn’t read your post as super braggy, I loved it! It’s such a great reminder of why making good nutrition choices and exercising is important.

I’m still catching up in this thread. But glad to see it’s so popular with the new year! I didn’t really have any specific goals for 2020 but then I was able to get a couple of health issues resolved that allowed me to start improving my health. I started really small with walks around the neighborhood with my son in the stroller, then progressed to more strenuous walks in the hillier neighborhood across the street, then suddenly was doing it with a double stroller. As the weather was starting to turn I realized how much I’d miss being able to do that and ordered a Peloton tread thinking I’d use it to walk and hike. But then I saw a running class that had a playlist I was really interested in so I gave it a try. I honestly never thought I could run so I’m really proud of myself. I’m super slow and walk more than I run so if I could get under a 15 minute mile by the end of January, that will be an accomplishment for me! I also want to sample 3 other categories of classes. I pretty much only do the tread and the stretching ones so I feel like it would be good to at least try some other categories. The other thing that I was really good about in 2020 that I want to carry over to this year is wearing sunscreen every day. I guess that’s a health goal and can go here! You guys have been such a welcoming and supportive group and I look forward to the month and year ahead cheering everyone on!

I need to go here now. I just weighed myself last night and I am at the heaviest I have been. I rejoined weight watchers. Ideally I would love to lose 50 pounds but I need to start slow.
I am looking for quick and easy healthy meals. I don’t mind cooking separate food for me and my family as long as it is quick. Breakfast is easy because I usually eat eggs every day. It is lunch and dinner and snacking that are my problems.

I mentioned this in another thread, but somewhere here commented that they planned to come out of quarantine a butterfly, and I am so thankful because I really took that to heart. 2020 was the year I learned to put myself, my health, and my body before anything else. I finally figured that I can’t truly take care of everyone else if I don’t take care of myself first. I rode over 2000 miles, and I lost 45 pounds. I also finally figured out that I need to love myself as I am, no matter what I look like, and make changes and adjustments and improvements from a place of love. I learned to focus not on what my body looks like, but what it is capable of, and what it can do. The weight loss is nice, but it’s much nicer to look at pictures of me 45 lbs heavier and still love them, and love that girl for the choices she made that were the right choices for her at that time. I started a women’s cycling community where women support one another, hold one another accountable, and build each other up. I have a women’s cycling website, I write articles for female cyclists, and I was even interviewed for a women’s cycling podcast. I’m still technically overweight but I don’t care. I feel amazing, and I like what I see when I look in the mirror because I am strong, and I am in the best shape of my life. I’m sorry, this is super braggy, but I just can’t hold in how good it feels to truly be at peace with myself just as I am. I look back on all of the years I spend doubting myself in so many ways and am just so proud that I will never do that again. For 2021 I want to ride 2500-3000 miles. I want to complete my first century (100 miles) and I want to do it solo to prove to myself that I can do it on my own. I want to continue to help other women get into cycling and use it to be more fit and happy from a place of love for what their body can do. I will continue to make small changes that add up to big results, and still have sugar in my tea and eat cookies. For January I plan to ride 350 miles. I’m running a cycling challenge and I want to show up in it for myself and for everyone in the group. I need 300/month or so to hit my goal, so I want to get a little jump on it. I also want to make healthier food choices than I did in December and add more fruits and veggies to every meal. Uh, please brag! This is incredible and the type of inspiration we all need. You are what we should all be striving towards. Congratulations on being a total badass!

It is lunch and dinner and snacking that are my problems. Welcome! To make dinners easier, one thing I like to do is make a bunch of something, and then plan multiple meals round it— often tacos, bowls and soup. So, if I roast a bunch of root vegetables (say a mixture of carrots, sweet potato and winter squash), then I will plan on tossing some with cumin and chili and using in tacos; on using some in a power bowl or a salad with quinoa/greens, a protein, some fresh herbs, a drizzle of sesame oil and some tamari/aminos, and maybe some kimchi; and on adding broth, maybe some coconut milk, and curry powder and pureeing for a soup. I also like that things like tacos and bowls are very customizable. Everyone can build their own, and there’s no need to make a completely separate meal for yourself. Yesterday I made a bunch of beans. I used some in a vegetarian chili, and I’ll use some as the protein for a bowl. I may use some for tacos, or I may food process them with some tahini, olive oil and lemon, and make a dip for fresh cut vegetables.

This is what I had to do. Like I buy meat with a meal or 2 or 3 in mind that it can make. I buy pre-chopped vegetables now. Anything to save me time. And sometimes it’s just going to be some protein veggie combo. With a bit of past a thrown in

2020 was my year in many ways. Sometimes during everything it was easy to get lost in the bad portion of it all. First I stopped clearing my. Plate. I’m not hungry. I just had to tell myself it was ok to not jorkzy way of looking at it. I relIe is kinda what he have been doing. I’m focusing on what I can add in not so much take away. I just want to ride 10 minutes a day. Walk the dog 2x a day for 20 minutes. I’ve started in November because food was becoming my nemesis again

Got my bike all set this morning. All my sensors are talk to my watch. Only the cadence sensor works with peloton, it doesn't work with my HRM or power meter, but that's fine, I keep track of data via Garmin anyways so I really mostly care that it works with my watch. Tires are pumped up and ready to ride. My chain needs to be cleaned and reoiled, but I can do that at some point.
I did a quick 5 minute Jess King cool down just to play around. I'd like to do more but I'm feeling pretty sick today, so I probably won't. I'm just happy I can ride again. I really missed my bike.

We have an early morning funeral (that we have to travel for) so I missed boot camp. I hope to do Dennis Beatles ride or another bike boot camp when I get home tonight. I really liked the one I did yesterday. I’m sure the movement will be nice after sitting in the car for 3.5 hours.

Today was a recovery day, my body really needed it. I did a 20min recovery ride with Robin and a 5min stretch with Olivia. I’ll probably try to walk the dogs at some point today too. cnf, how are you and your family feeling?

They're at each other today, so if anyone wants them they're free to a good home temporarily. Baby seems fine. H and I both feel pretty gross. Today is the first day I woke up feeling actually sick. I can't seem to shake it either. My head is killing me. I'll likely go get retested tomorrow.

If its OK i am joining. I need to make changes.
My goal for the year is to lose at least 20 lbs, preferably 30. But I really need to make myself more of a priority and do more self care, especially since I will be balancing FT remote learning x2 kids and a very busy work schedule in January.
So: January movement goal: get moving. My daily step goal on my garmin (varies by my activity level) is currently a paltry 5k-ish steps a day; so my goal is to hit my step goal 6 out of 7 days each week. I have no reason not to throw on a quick workout video after work to help switch gears from work/teacher mom to just mom.
Food: I have paid for WW forever and not used it. I need to start tracking again and get back to meal planning healthy food, not convenience dinners.

Welcome trueblue! Self-care is where it’s at! Remote learning plus work is killer, and it’s so easy to not do things for yourself because of time and guilt and all kinds of things. But I’ve definitely found that when I make it a point to do some things for me, I’m actually more productive and a better parent and partner.

2020 was a year I did well at first and then just went down
2021 is going to be about me. I want to lose 30 pounds at least ( would want more like 50) but I’m not going to try and not focus on the number and just be healthy and that starts with food and water and exercise which always helps me feel better and sleep better.
