Happy New Year 🎊🎆 to the most amazing group of women.
2020 was definitely the year I got serious about working out. Not even so much to lose weight but to really take care of my body and my mental health. In the midst of the crapfest that was last year (man, it feels so good to say that!), getting those workouts in, especially outdoor walks and runs, we’re my sanity. And this thread and all of you a lifeline to keep me motivated when a lot of days I just wanted to curl up in bed.
I got a Sunny bike and the Peloton app in late April and my life was literally changed where something just clicked and I actually looked forward to working out instead, I wanted to work out, instead of feeling like I needed to.
I’ve done 462 Peloton workouts (500 total workouts for the year with pre-Peloton added in). So clearly I upped my game once I succumbed to the “dark side.” LOL.
I clocked 200 running miles after not having run much in the previous 2 years and had my second fastest 5K ever. I’m currently on a 36-week Peloton streak.
I didn’t change up my eating too much and still managed to lose (and keep off) 18 lbs.
For 2021, I’d like to lose another 10 lbs (20 would be better) but 100% agree that if my body looks better (definition, smaller size etc.), then IWGAF (much) what the scale says. I also want to take it one month at a time and build upon the progress made so it’s doable. I do want to take better care of of my body with more than just exercise by making healthier choices. I finally start my Invisalign trays next week and I’m hoping that will help curb the mindless, “I’m bored/stressed/whatever emotion” eating. I want to get back into meal planning again more consistently and have been jotting down recipe ideas. I started using a planner for workouts last year and have a new planner this year. I want to be more consistent with journaling all aspects of my health and fitness journey. I’m a super-visual person so turning through those pages last night was very gratifying.
I again want to thank everyone here for inspiring and motivating me and being the best cheerleaders a gal could ever ask for.

My H and I just had the most wonderful discussion about how I'm feeling about my body and what changes we as a family should encorporate.
I told him that the hardest thing for me was as a kid, my parents very much instilled in me that certain foods were treat foods, so I learned to either sneak them when no one knew I was eating them, or when we were "allowed" them, to eat as much as possible.
My H ensured me I never need to feel like that. That all foods are something I should allow myself to eat but just learning moderation.
He's really the best guy ever.

Happy New Year! 2020 was a good year for me in the sense that I lost weight and started exercising consistently for the first time in my adult life. I feel like I finally found a balance in my diet where I can have an indulgent meal or treat without giving up on trying to eat healthy. In the past it was always one extreme or the other.
When the pandemic hit I decided I would devote some of that extra time at home to working out and trying to get healthier.. At first I would get on the treadmill and my goal would be to make it a mile. Now I’m consistently running a few miles at a time. It was a really tough year on my mental health so I’m proud that I was consistent even though I didn’t feel like doing it most of the time. Working out for health as opposed to weight loss has been a game changer for me in terms of motivation.
My 2021 goals are centered around being healthy. I really need to get my mental health in check and am going to focus on that. Food wise I want to increase my fruit and vegetable intake. I work hard to give my kids a huge variety in their diets but then barely eat any veggies or fruit myself. I want to eat to fuel my body the best I can and give it plenty of vitamins and nutrients. I don’t cook much so one of my goals is to start trying new recipes and find healthy ones my family enjoys.
For exercise my goals are to increase my run distances, get in a couple Peloton rides a week, and consistently weight train. I also need to stretch more.

oceanblue I get what you mean about having an indulgent meal and still keep eating healthy overall. That is my biggest struggle.

Happy New Year! I don’t remember what my 2020 goals were or if I had any. I probably didn’t. I don’t think I had a lot of expectations beyond working out 2x a week and getting in some steps. Well, working from home meant I didn’t have a huge commute so that meant working out 5-7 days a week and trying harder to get in some steps since I didn’t have the regular walk my that my commute and working on-site required. I turned 40 this year and while I don’t know if I’m in the best shape of my life I’m in damn good shape. I’m definitely stronger than I was a year ago, and my cardio has improved as well. This year I will eventually have to transition to working onsite again and It will be harder to make time to work out, but I’ll worry about that later.
I don’t have a lot of specific year long goals, but I’d like to continue to get stronger and go up in the weights I use, and try to run outside when weather permits because I love it. We’re also still trying to build our family so I don’t want to make too many goals because we’re hoping things happens earlier in the year but I don’t want to not have any goals because I know things don’t always work out the way you want.

I love the clean slate and the optimism that a new year brings. I ran 4 miles and did a crush your core with Emma today. I’m making vegetarian chili for dinner tonight. Feeling good!

Today I hit the trifecta again and was able to do an outdoor run. I did about 30 minutes and got in a little over 5k. I had it planned for tomorrow but it’s supposed to snow this evening so I switched it to today. There were a few icy spots but I made it back in one piece. I’ve decided I really like running in colder weather- it was about 0 Celsius when I was out and it was great.
My fitness planner has a spot to put in a “focus” for each day, and I’m really liking that- I can pick one thing to work on and writing it down helps to make it more real, I think.

I restarted the couch to 5k. I can run 2 miles but after that it’s... a struggle. The C25k always really helps. I’m starting Breath, the 30 Day Yoga Challenge from Adriene. I want to be intentional about eating more veggies and drinking more water. I want to run my whole 5k in April (it’s virtual so it won’t get canceled.) I want to finish Liift4.
I bought a 2021 planner from the dollar spot at Target I’m going to use to track my fitness goals. I did it a few years ago and it was really helpful. Hopefully I’ll remember to check in here more than once a month.

jorkzy I really loved your advice about resolutions. Think of adding something instead of taking something away. I want to add veggies and water. I’m not going to take anything away. It is such a great way to look at it. I really value the advice you give here and on Instagram. Thank you for sharing it with us.

2020 was rough for me health wise. I ate whatever I wanted, quit OTF, and drank way to much wine due to stress from work and attempting to home school 3 kids. I told my family that 2021 needs to be a year that we all put health first. We are working together to plan healthier meals and my twin girls have said they'll make sure that each day I get some excercise in, either with taking walks together or doing a beachbody workout, since we have on demand. We also signed up for the April Star Wars Rival Run 5K race virtually through RunDisney. It'll be good motivation and something fun for us all to do. Overall though, I just need to stop snacking. I can't control myself with cookies or chips or whatever. And basically I spent most of last year making treats when I felt anxious about covid. I need a better outlet. I don't know what that is yet, but at least I recognize I need to stop the emotional eating. Ohhhh i wonder if I could get 9ne of my kids to run this with me....

I did Sam's New Year's recovery ride this morning, too. Why is it so hard to take recovery? That's another thing I need to do better in January, is build in more recovery. I have been feeling really weak and sore and tired lately and I know it's because I'm not giving myself time to recover. Duh.
I plan on doing some restorative yoga later.

30 minute groove ride with Emma 30 minute Pilates with Emma
Absolutely perfect way to start the new year. A big fat WTF to me for sleeping on groove rides. I felt like I was back in the studio hitting 4 corners, dropping elbows, and soaking up the reflection song. Wowww. Hid my output and cadence and just tried to catch her leg and the beat. Perfection.

My summary of 2020 is.... I survived.
I’m not sure what my fitness goals are for 2021 yet so I’m starting small with January: - Complete a core strength challenge - Track my food - Practice yoga once a week.

3 mile run along the water to some of Jess King's 30 min 2000s Run 15 min calming meditation w/ Chelsea as I hiked a hill back home 10 min core w/ Matty 10 min arms w/ Emma Post run stretch with Jess Sims
I really liked Jess King! My issue will be that I don't love a lot of her playlists so it'll limit which runs and rides I do, but she was great. Her voice is so sweet and gently encouraging.

Did a 20 min beginner ride and some light movements with the bar. I’m taking a break then may try one of the Peloton strength workouts. Just need something light yet full body to get me moving so I hope I am able to choose wisely.

My 2020 was much better than 2019 in terms of exercise. I have 604 workouts on my Peloton and it has completely changed the way I exercise. I love everything about it.
2019 was a really rough year for me. I got my bike in February of that year and it took me forever to even get to 200 cycling rides (just last month). I am embarrassed to admit it, but yes, it was an expensive clothes hanger for a good part of that year. I definitely did not use my bike as much as I should have, but it was because I was so fatigued and my health completely turned upside down when I started to randomly gain weight and retain water. I had a lot of inflammation and a sudden increase in migraines, so I felt like total crap. I kept going to the doctors only to never get any answers, and finally, this last September I saw an endocrinologist and got a PCOS diagnosis and everything just made sense. I eat right, I workout daily, I literally only ever drink water, and nothing was happening. I was gaining weight, nothing fit me anymore, and I was just so miserable. I have never before in my life had weight issues till now. My hormones are out of whack, which was contributing to so much of how I was feeling. I'm more patient now that I know what's "wrong" with me and I know it's just going to take time.
My 2021 goals are to just keep moving daily. When I get exercise in, even after a long day of work, I feel so good and I don't want that feeling to ever go away.

I decided I needed a rest day today. Currently walking in the neighborhood while the kids play outside. I might do a 10 minute core later. But in general just feels nice to be outside and moving. I do feel like I have been running a ton in my body could use a day off of strength.

In 2020 I ditched my family doctor who kept trying to get me to do keto. Maybe it works for others, but I definitely do not care for it. I've eaten in moderation all my life and I'm not about to change that, so I got a new doctor. I thought you would be proud!

It’s been so inspiring/motivating to read about everyone’s accomplishments in 2020 and goals for 2021. It’s awesome to see so many ready to get this year off to a great start!
2021 yearly goals Outdoor bike 900-1000 miles (completed 850 miles in 2020) Peloton bike 4x/week Cross train (xc ski/snowshoe/hike/swim/run/etc.) 2x/week Focus on upper body strength/core exercises/weights
January specific Make decision on buying the Peloton tread+ (possibly selling our elliptical) Commit to a race virtually or in person Cook 1 plant based dinner meal a week Find a new protein source (that I can tolerate) for breakfast Start exercise journal/fitness tracking

I did a 5 min core on the Peloton app today and what I learned is I have no core. All that weight I can lift and my core is crap. Goal for the year is to incorporate it more. My programming has it but I think I’ll add a little more to it.

Happy New Year everyone! I don’t know what goals to set for the year so maybe I’ll go month by month for now. I’m definitely need to be on board for a dry January.

I can’t set a whole 2021 goal because it’s too overwhelming with how much I have to go at this point. So I’m taking it probably month by month. This month I am really just focusing on cutting back the alcohol (mostly dry January) and counting all my food. I have ordered a bunch of tea online so I can enjoy that at night. I really forgot how much I love a good pot of tea.
