I stocked up on sparkling water yesterday. My drinking is 100% attached to my anxiety. I am working on that as well, mostly with exercise. Yah for online Zumba!

I’m on day 4.
I have La Croix, Coke Zero, and Kombucha. I haven’t been craving yet either but I also will not drink for a few days. I think the weekend will be hardest, H leaves for work tomorrow and the oil fields are strict no alcohol, so that will help two fold. 1- he’s not bringing wine home everyday and 2- I know he’s sober which is motivation.

MH's work sent us a bottle of 2010 Dom Perignon. 🤯 I thought it would be a bottle of basic champagne lol. Suffice to say, I'll be having some of that on Valentine's Day, or our anniversary in May.

Do the NA beers still have the same amount of calories? That may be a really dumb question 😬
I'm mostly cutting back for weight loss purposes so just wondering if that would be counter productive to try some. I do really enjoy the taste of beer lol

This is going to sound sincerely stupid but mondays will be the hardest day to abstain for me with the bachelor on. I always have wine when I watch it, I was thinking about maybe making a nice mocktail or getting some kombucha for tonight?

I do really enjoy the taste of beer lol Depends on what you normally drink. Like Bud Select or any light beer- about the same. Sam Adams or Guiness? Less than those.

I always have wine when I watch it, I was thinking about maybe making a nice mocktail or getting some kombucha for tonight? It sounds like it’s the ritual and not necessarily the drink. So I would play with that theory. Make yourself a fun drink or something comforting to you. Keep it in the same glass you usually use for the wine. Do everything else the same. And just tell yourself “I always drink when I watch the Bachelor, today, just this once, I’m going to see how it is without it”. Other than that, no big deal. Tomorrow reflect on how it felt. And it’s ok to say, I didn’t like it. It felt lacking. I wasn’t as happy. Just reflect and let yourself feel the feelings. It’s just about learning and experiencing.

Which I don’t do with regular beer.

I’ll be watching the Bachelor too CestLaVie! I had kombucha with a bit of cranberry juice in a wine glass last night and it was the perfect substitute for wine.

I love tart cherry juice in a wine glass. It has a ton of melatonin and helps me sleep!
ETA: melatonin not melanin autocorrect

I'm having sparkling water with fresh OJ in a wine glass. This is the time of the day that is the hardest for me to abstain.

It’s the calories in alcohol and doesn’t it slow the metabolism too?

I'm just lurking cause I don't feel like committing, but this is what I do. I did vodka soda with a splash of cran for a while, and just don't pour vodka when I want to satisfy the itch without drinking something high calorie. Or tonic in a rocks glass.

I’m joining in if I can, but mostly because SO and I are starting to take diet/exercise a lot more seriously. I’m also lumping soda in with alcohol because that’s my bigger problem. I’m switching to tea for caffeine. I want to keep it up until Valentines weekend when SO and I go away for 5 days (in a cabin in the woods. It is socially distanced.)
I hope that

I start back to work tomorrow, so I had a glass of wine last night and am beginning today. Dinner time and on is when not drinking feels difficult to me. I’m drinking LaCroix right now, but I’m loving all the ideas to spice it up a little bit.
The reason I’m doing dry January is because I realized I’ve started feeling like I must have a glass of wine once I start cooking dinner. And then I typically keep refilling the glass as the evening goes on. I used to only do it a few days a week, mostly the weekend, but once school closed last year it turned into every day. I felt like it was my reward at 5:00 for making it through another day of lockdown and virtual learning. My H has already cut back his drinking quite a bit, but he’s onboard with dry January, so I think it will be good for both of us.

It's definitely being hungry that makes me start to crave alcohol. I felt the urge to drink again right before dinner. I powered through it, cooked dinner, watched SO pour himself a beverage 🙄, ate, and now I don't want a beverage at all.
However I do want some hot tea once DD goes to bed. I bought some brown sugar cinnamon flavored (sugar-free) syrup and put it in green tea last night. It was so good 🤤

Day 2 for me. I really would like to try CBD drinks but they are so damn expensive. Gotta peruse the fancy juice selection at the store soon. I, too, have the 5pm routine of drinking while making dinner.

I will take any and all tea recommendations. I subscribe to a monthly tea box, Sipsby. I think if you just go to the site, they list a ton of the teas they partner with I've tried some really good ones through it. Hi, everyone. I will probably be a weekday-free participant, but very light on the weekends, if at all. Maybe a Saturday evening beer or Sunday morning mimosa. Like many, I have found myself increasing my drinking with the pandemic and stress, etc. I have gained some weight (definitely through shitty eating habits as well) so backing off the alcohol should help too. I think everyone in here is awesome. It's hard to take a look at yourself and think, "maybe I need a break?" Whether you're just starting out sober or old hat giving support and resources, it's very cool Thanks for a nice spot to take some inventory on myself.

I usually like my drink after dinner, so instead of sitting on the couch with a drink, I took the dog for a walk and the desire isn’t there.
I also told MH and my mom that I’m doing dry January so I have some IRL accountability.
