And what's amazingly stupid is that they don't even understand what Section 230 actually does. Yeah I thought section 230 kept large compa irs from being liable for individuals communications- so do they want to repeal it so Trump can sue twitter? Making sure I understand what is going on here... This is exactly what Trump wants.

Yes I am sure Trump wants to sue everyone for everything.
I caught Biden’s press conference today, does anyone have additional intel on how the defense production act will work? At this point I am ready to have them vaccinate me with whatever followed by an epi-pen if it means I never have to spouse and parent through an infection again.

I need someone smarter than me to explain section 230 like I’m 5. Why is it good? Bad? What do I want them to do? Lol

To be clear: section 30 needs reforms. But a blanket repeal is going to cause social media platforms to freak out and squash a lot of speech, including"conservative viewpoints" like those of Sweat Sock and Trump

I can't recall exactly who it was, but I *think* 4PrivetDrive told me about knoephla soup. Well, I finally made it for the first time tonight and it was a hit! S1 and MH ate two bowls each! So thank you!

“ Much of this is going to be saved, not spent, since restaurants are closed and air travel limited.” Lol wut? Does this person think the average American is spending all their money on dining out and flights? There are millions of people about to be evicted for lapsed rent and mortgage payments.

I take their point that blowing up the deficit to send $2,000 checks to people who don't need them isn't great policymaking but how, exactly, do you determine who needs them? Layoffs and wage reduction happened across the entire economy and income brackets.

Lulz I was so angry in my posting I accidentally deleted my comment and hit post basically simultaneously.
I was trying to say: This is infuriating because they are limiting who gets the checks based on income. So they've taken reasonable effort to say- hey most people at or below this income level porobably could use the money. And those that do have the ability to save it- will probably spend it later when things are safe on those dinner sand vacations. It's just so irritating that we don't think twice at cutting taxes and blowing up the deficit, but actually helping people because it might give some middle class people a little extra is worth cutting off our nose for.
This is just like forgiving student loans. Yes some reasonably comfortable people might get their loans forgiven but THE VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WILL BENEFIT IMMENSELY AND ARE NOT WELL OFF> REALLY RICH PEOPLE DONT HAVE THAT DEBT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Not to mention cost of food has risen, unexpected childcare bills for when schools have been closed, utility increases for those WFH to name a few. So yeah people are going to save/not necessarily use it for travel/eating out. But you can’t fault them for that.

And just because some people fraudulently abuse social safety nets doesn't mean they aren't good, important, life saving programs. Tale as old as time.

If they actually cared about the economy they'd pay those in the service industry to stay home.
Like, exactly what do they think happens when restaurants don't have customers?

I just wish there was a way to distribute the money better than a blanket check based on tax returns from a "better time". I have no idea what that is though.

To that point as well, living in a HCOL area... less people qualify to begin with. I unfortunately know several families where one parent lost or had to quit their job for childcare reasons, which wouldn’t be seen on an old tax return. We don’t qualify for the payment, but we’d be more than happy to sink that into home improvement (pun partially intended as my husband has the bathroom in disarray from pipe work #100yearoldhouse)- which seems as important as food and travel in terms of employing hourly workers. Not to make light of the fact that a lot of people need those payments for rent and necessities like food, but I think less people would truly just save those payments than the politicians/editors like to think.

Hawley is going to object to the electoral college vote? Wtf. I hope someone in his jurisdiction has the balls to move for a recall and the R’s see fit to stick him in the broom closet for the rest if his term.

Well the govt knows right this minute if you are getting any income from any source where taxes could be taken out, and how much that income is.
they could compare last years tax return with the tax info from last month in this yeae and get a pretty good idea of who is more in need this year due to loss of job since last year. And then use that to target people more accurately.
They pull that data all the time to see who can be on or stay on medicaid. So the mechanism for pulling the data already exists.
So for medicaid renewal they knew exactly how much $ we didn't make last month to verify we were still eligible.

If they actually cared about the economy, they wouldn't have spent the last four decades dismantling it.
And fuck Hawley, but we already knew he was king turd of shit mountain. I'm unfortunately, not surprised.
