I have the same winder! You really do need one, pistol. I loathe rolling balls. This makes it easy... until one of the children grabs the skein I am rolling and makes a mess of knots 😒

I try to keep with working off the skein but I've had a few that I couldn't find the start and ended up with a wadded up mess that needed rolled up. Then I had one that I made just far enough into that I didn't want to start over before my whole middle of the skein fell out in a giant tangled mess. Or when I reach the end if I don't need to use the last bit then I will roll that up.

Clamped the yarn between the sticks and stuck them in the drill. Power winder! 🤣

I pull from the middle and typically don't have much issue. 🤷♀️ But I will be looking into a winder!

I'm so silly, I keep imagining this kind of skein, which is apparently called a hank:

I've heard things called "hanks" before but I just assigned that to roving.

@zweber, I love him so much! How did you get the magic circle to work? I did it 4 flipping times for the stockings and then sat down to do the bunny and couldn't get it to work right.

Re: magic circles. Put your hook into close the circle of stitches (this is so the first stitch doesn’t become impossible to use), and then pull the circle closed. Do row 2, pull magic circle tighter. Do it again after row 3 and it should be good to go. I also find the yarn itself can fuck with if it will work because some yarns like to catch on themselves. If it doesn’t tighten to what it should be come row 3, try again

I'm going to try again when I finish the project I'm on.

I know thats not helpful since its hard to explain but whenever I can't tighten its because the yarn is backwards so I rip out and then reverse the loop yarn. Thats why it's good to try to tighten within a couple rows so you aren't as angry when you have to rip out, lol.

I give it a tug after the initial double chains or whatever the initial row is so luckily I wasn't too far into it.

i can’t pick anything to make now I’m really into sweaters right now as a pretty beginner knitter. I like that they’re a mix of long routine sections and portions to learn new things. I’m also making a giant cabled blanket that I’m maybe a third of the way through. I think it’ll be my tv project this year, but I’m excited to have it next winter. I've been working on a blanket for my TV project lately. Hopefully I will finish that this upcoming week though.

Do any of you guys sell your crafts? If so, how do you price them? Where do you sell them?

Do any of you guys sell your crafts? If so, how do you price them? Where do you sell them? For knitting I’ve always heard MSRP of materials x3, which will never begin to compensate for your time. Obviously time is valuable should be compensated but I understand why it’s not reasonable expect someone to pay 200+ for a hat. We have a few stores that sell handmade goods for fundraisers, and in most years there’s a few craft fairs that are very well attended. I also see stuff on local barter and trade pages. H and I were talking about the pricing and I was like if it takes me 10 hours to do a stocking, nobody is paying $100+ for the damn thing. In the sewing world people are big on making sure you are compensated for your time but also, the price needs to be reasonable, IMO.

If I were to sell a sweater I'd charge like $500, which obviously no one would pay

Most types of crafting ive heard to start at 2x cost of materials and supplies. But aim for 3x if the market will bear it. Cause you can never truly charge an hourly reasonable rate.
