Very interesting, thanks! But yikes to the palace spokesperson... “they have much more important things to worry about”. Face palm

My overall verdict is that I enjoyed it, but maybe not quite as much as I might have enjoyed it if I hadn’t known most of the plot twists already. On the other hand, that meant I knew what I was in for, and it delivered the escapism that I wanted!

I’ll be very curious to see if they keep that storyline the same.

I’ll be very curious to see if they keep that storyline the same. Quoting myself to say I poked around in book Marina is in, and now I’m itching to talk about it with someone, but it’s way to spoilery to just post about. So I’m going to spoiler my questions and theories but DON’T click if you don’t want major spoilers from the books. Major. Big. It is spoilers about her character as well as how another major character’s story happens. Did I say spoiler enough times? I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone 😂 So similarities: Marina is Phillip Crane’s first wife, who married him after her fiancé George, his older brother, died at Waterloo. Differences: There is no mention of Marina being pregnant by George as far as I remember. Marina is a Bridgerton cousin, and suffers from serious depression. Eloise, whose book Marina appears in, remembers her as being sad even as a child. That is not the Marina we see on the show.
This is important because Marina dies by suicide, after years of being seriously depressed. So I wonder if they get to Eloise’s story, if they will keep that the same. I’m seeing a lot of chatter about Benedict being gay or bisexual (and I think they could easily adapt his storyline to this and hope they do). But I think Eloise would also be a great opportunity to show a character who is LGBTQ+. What if her complete lack of interest in a husband and kids is, in fact, complete lack of interest? They could make her bi, gay, or asexual... her book was really boring IMO, so if they are going to majorly upend a storyline hers could be a good one.

I only finished ep 2. I don’t care for how much they changed nigel’s character. It’s been done so many times. He’s essentially a harmless idiot in the book. I didn’t care for eloise’s book. That was when her books started to go down for me. I think your thoughts on character changes are really interesting and would be awesome to see.

Eloise’s book bored me, and I couldn’t finish Gregory’s (though I’m going to give it a shot, since it was years ago). Francesca and Hyacinth’s books are better than Eloise, and they could really be good with the right casting. Especially Francesca, so much angst!

I love Francesca’s book. Since she’s a widow, I love that we didn’t have to listen to the typical sex scenes of a virgin. At least she knew something about what sex could be.

Sucks when they’re paid for. Do you have a discount book store near you? We have half price books here—I’m not sure how many locations they have. I know they are doing curbside pickup.

I love Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams, so I loved when they used that. Even if I was rolling my eyes by the sex on the lawn moment.

The only things that bothered me were the aforementioned scene with Daphne and Simon, and the excessive use of the term rake. Otherwise, I've loved every bit of it, and I'm watching it again.

I plan to read the book series, but skip book 1

Ok so I’ve gotten all the way through Simon and Daphne’s wedding. Ep 5, I think? Anyway, I have some thoughts.
Why have they made so many minor characters ( Marina, mr featherington, opera singer, prince, etc) into major characters? There is plenty of enough story without them.
And the bridgertons are supposed to be likable. Like that’s one of the major premises of the entire book series. I feel like they’ve lost the humor and charm of the books.
HATE THE COLIN/MARINA storyline. Completely made up and unnecessary. The actor who plays Colin is so miscast. Where’s his mischievous nature and charm? Also—he’s supposed to be the most handsome of the brothers.
Anthony has been redeemed somewhat. I enjoy the casting of Benedict, Eloise, and hyacinth.
I’ll keep watching but I feel this could have been done SO much better.

I thought I read though that only 2 lived past infancy, and none reached adulthood though and that it's speculated she had a negative blood type, which created the complications (why the rhogam shot is given now to negative blood type mothers)

When the king (who I assume had some sort of dementia?) asked about their daughter and she has to tell him she passed? That part was very sad but went so quick... does the queen have a book in this series?

If I remember right the queen isn't in the books but Julia Quinn says now that she loves it and wishes she had thought to add her.
