Does anyone do a lot of this? I could use a hand.. A neighbor was getting rid of some outdoor toys and so we snagged them for DD (19mo). It was this playhouse and a climber slide, the slide just need a good power wash, it's just sunbleached. The playhouse though has seen better days. I'm going to clean them both up because E looooves them both, so I have to figure out where to put them in my yard too. Does anyone a) have this playhouse and can tell me the model number or b) have suggestions on what type of paint works on outdoor plastic? And also any ideas for outdoor play area set up? We have a.4 acre lot so definitely some space out back.    |

I was just looking at spray paint at Lowe's and they have some specifically for outdoor plastics.

Baking soda and a scrub brush do a good job of getting rid of the grime.
I would pull it all apart to clean it, and dry it. If possible I'd fill any holes with silicone caulking.

I have done projects like this.
Step one is pull it all apart and wash it with blue dawn, vinegar, and hot water (all in one bucket). Unless you have a power washer. If you have a power washer, use that.
The rustoleum outdoor spray paint for plastics is the type I have used. It works well but be forewarned this will be a pricey project. If you got the house for free then it's still a great deal compared to buying new.
The rest is pretty simple, when your pieces are clean and dry, spray paint following the directions, dry, flip, repeat, dry, pop it all back together.

Thanks guys!!! I'm power washing this weekend and then going to go from there. I found out it is actually the Little Tykes Imagine Sounds Playhouse. It's discontinued so I'm trying to get in touch with Little Tykes on if I can get any kind of replacement part for the doorbell /phone combo. My biggest concern is the shutters, they are cracked. If I can't get new ones any ideas? It was in fact free so I got a great bargain and I'm super excited.  |

Yes!!! We just did this recently. We scored a free play house. Took it apart and cleaned thoroughly. I even got a tooth brush to get in the nooks and crannies. You MUST wait until it's completely dry before you do the first coat. Then again, be patient and wait until fully dry before more coats. Use the spray paint designated for plastic and outdoors. Then just have fun with it!!! Several brands of spray paint were used for us including Krylon Glitter Blast, Krylon Colormaster in Satin Oxford Blue, Valspar Project Perfect Paint and Primer in Flat Dark Purple, Krylon Shimmer Metallic Purple Shimmer, Krylon Colormaster Satin Black and White. We used sponges to create the purple and blue Galaxy effect. We got the star effect by spray painting my hand with white and splattering color. We used a the black sparkle finish and purple finish to make faint Galaxy lines around the house. Inside will eventually be finished and sprayed all black with white stars. I'm going to attempt to link pics of what I did. I tried to post it on Pinterest but I honestly have no clue how to do that. Thanks for the shout @amc    ETA: Yes, this was time consuming, but not expensive. I used coupons and sales between Lowes, JoAnne fabric, 50% off paint at Sherwin Williams, and cheap $3 Walmart paint. This is normally a $300 or so play house and I wanted it custom for my space loving toddler. |

Also, definitely wear a mask. SO and I both had tons of black glitter sparkle boogers for a day or two.
Save some paint for touch ups after its back together. The paint is holding strong on ours but it chipped where we popped the door and the shutters on.

sunfroggerI wonder if you can reach out to other people via Facebook yard sale groups or Nextdoor app to see if anyone has a similar house they are getting rid of and would give you the shutters? If not, I think you should just trash them. The cracks seem like they are too big. Plus, they will probably break more when you take off and put back on. Maybe last resort, get creative and cut some from a light weight wood? Or maybe make curtains instead?

Curtains made of that plastic table cloth stuff they sell at fabric stores might work.

sunfrogger I can't remember, are you in South Jersey? There is a guy on Craigslist in the williamstown area that buys, fixes up and re-sells little tikes stuff. I actually have a similar cottage I've been planning to re-do to a bat cave that is missing the door. I reached out to him. I also recently saw a guy post about fixing them up by the shore who might have parts.
