You know, Margaret really has a lot to say about how her family treats people (herself included) and yet couldn't be fussed to help Diana at any turn. *This of course is all based on the Crown portrayal and what little insider information we have about personal relationships within the actual royal family From all my googling while watching this show, I think Diana would probably say it was even worse than the crown shows. Just based on her interviews

I like Anderson as Thatcher, except she seems much older than mid-50s. I guess in the late 70s, 54 year old women looked prematurely old? She’s playing the voice oddly old, too. Like kind of hoarse? Thatcher at that age was (slightly, lol) softer looking and her voice sounded normal. She’s a great actress, though. Her reactions are so good. The hoarse breathy voice was almost unbearable at times

I just finished it.
My initial take always are: - Olivia Coleman reigns supreme as my one true queen both in the role of QE2 and all else - the casting for Diana and Charles was fantastic, and it could have so easily gone the other way - they were fucking assholes with terrible manners, I want to die during the scenes where they ignore guests etc - I kind of wanted to see Diana and Phillip bang (what the fuck?) - Diana was an actual child when she got married to a grown man and it was all so unfair and a fucked up way to “grow up” in some pivotal coming of age years - the attention/media hungry side of all the royal “children” was fascinating, so desperate for their moments of coverage, and yet none of them could think oh if I maybe align with Diana the delight of the press I could be getting some positive attention I crave? But no because they need to be number one or bust.
Really pleased with this season, I was expecting to hate it because I love Olivia Coleman and was worried about how she’d do and because I loved Diana and didn’t think anyone could act her that well.

I concur with all this. I love Tobias Menzies. He plays Philip so differently than Matt Smith and made him a sympathetic character. I had to keep reminding myself that it’s fictionalized and Philip still sucks 😂

I love the big, impassioned speech when Charles was trying to tell his mother that he wanted to separate from Diana... but I highly doubt thats how it went down 😅
Somehow, I doubt the Queen capable of such a scathing response to her heir.

I just finished. Goddamn they pulled no punches with Charles. The scene where he is screaming at Diana for making CAMILLA look bad?
Maybe the Queen has lived so long because the thought of Charles taking over was just too horrifying.

I finished the episode where Charles and Diana went to Australia and could not continue. It's very distressing to watch their relationship slowly implode, and see Diana fighting all these impossible fights. I had to switch to Schitt's Creek just to lighten things up.

Made it to episode 6.
It makes you wish Charles had been more secure and confident in himself to be pleased with the attention Diana was getting instead of jealous. They could have been so good together if he would have just gotten over himself. It’s a wonder that all the royals (Anne, Charles, even QE) saw her as taking away attention they should have been getting instead of making the institution itself better off as a whole. I wonder if they realize now that they made a huge mistake or if they still privately blame Diana.
Also the show portrays QE as so frigid and closed off she can’t even receive a hug from Diana or connect with her emotionally when Diana is literally begging for help. Do you think this is true to real life? I wonder how Elizabeth turned out this way when she had fairly close, supportive relationships with her parents and sister.

I was thinking the same thing about viewing Diana as a threat instead of realizing she could be a huge asset to the family. She had the charisma that literally no one in that family (save maybe Margaret) possessed. She could have been your saving Grace! I could see QE2 being a woman who was pretty distant and frosty as a mother, but (relatively) warmer and more welcoming as a grandmother.

This episode came right after the Fagan one, in which QE seemed to have more empathy with an intruder than she ever did with Diana. The contrast is just chilling.

I’m on the episode about the queen’s rift with Thatcher. The comments from Charles to Andrew on his wedding day, calling him “a fringe member of the royal family,” (“impressively cunty,” lol) sound totally made up, but given how awful Andrew is, it’s enjoyable to watch.
I also have a full-body cringe to any grown man referring to his mother as “Mummy.”

It's certainly something Diana's sons realize and they're trying to reshape the image of the family in some of the ways she could have

I know, they all call her Mummy but never hug each other? Weird.

Wow, I didn’t realize William and Harry both went to boarding school so young! (8 years old) This is insane, I can't even imagine. My kids (same age and a little older) still like to be cuddled at night when we tuck them into bed! I bet there is no way Kate will agree to send George that early.

I looked it up, and apparently Diana herself went to boarding school when she was 9. Kate boarded but it's not quite clear at what age (and Wikipedia says "part-weekly"?) She switched to a different boarding school at age 14 because she was being picked on. #lifestylesoftherichandfamous

This season has made me wonder what I would do with myself as a royal. I mean to have someone come in and open my drapes every morning sounds so luxurious. I also imagine they have fresh sheets daily. Children in the top boarding schools in the world. I hate the sexism and double standard within the royal family, if you are male you can do no wrong, have nothing to answer for. I also like how they showed Diana dancing, made me adore her all the more. My 3yo comes in early in the morning and says “It’s morning!”, so it’s basically the same thing... Oh, my 3 year old does this too! Just like a personal maid! "Mommy isss morniiinn! Da sun is up! Is morrrrnin!" 😕 If only I could get him to bring me coffee.
