I’m on episode 5 or 6 and so far like it a lot. Much more action-oriented than the last few seasons.
Gillian Anderson is great as Thatcher.

Going to start it tonight I think! Interested to see how they approach Diana.

I've just started the first episode. Liked Diana's introduction, though.
Gillian Anderson seems to be spot on as Thatcher.

Ugh, I really love Diana (her portrayal in the show) and I know it was done by design but it makes me feel so bad knowing what will come. Ugh.

I also just finished Ep 4, and for the life of me couldn't figure out who the Queen's favorite child was.
Then fucking Andrew came flying in - oh yeah, how could I forget. Somehow, I had managed to forget that the bastard even existed.

I'm only an episode in so far. As per, I feel a bit of... guilt? I guess? for enjoying it, knowing that so many of the key players are still alive and trying to go about their lives. Is that weird? Specifically last night was feeling for Mountbatten's grandson, the twin who survived the explosion, knowing that he has to relive that essentially being used as a dramatic plot device. He's only in his 50s! It really wasn't that long ago. He wrote a book that I might read someday. If I were royal, it would be so difficult not to jump in and defend something if I felt it had been depicted unfairly! I know that's sort of the story of their lives. I guess it's why I'm a commoner. That said, I'm okay with some drama! The last season was boring. I still can't believe they skipped over Princess Anne's kidnapping. I'm inclined to hate Tobias Menzies because of Outlander, but man he's such a good actor. I thought his acting in the scene with Charles about Mountbatten's funeral was so good.

I finished it over the weekend. It was very well put together and put to light a lot of issues I didn't know behind the scenes even if they may have been embelished here or there such as the love triangle. My memories of the royal family start in this period since my mom watched it on the TV such as the wedding, divorce, etc. It was interesting to see all the various aspects of why and the struggles Diana faced coming into the family. It made me feel so sad for her too. She married a guy she liked, found out he was in love with someone else and cheating on her and yet gave him a chance and tried to make it work except for Charles to continually set her up for failure. I feel he emotionally neglected her which is why she sought attention elsewhere since he was refusing her phone calls/not calling her back. Watching how much he didn't even try made me so angry since Diana seemed lovely. It was hard to try to be objective. I did feel a lite for Charles since he has so many personal issues especially when Elizabeth and Phillip don't give him a chance to speak up when they asked if Diana and Charles wanted to divorce/separate. It would be frustrating to feel like your opinion, thoughts or feelings didn't matter so why speak or try. So I can understand in a sense that he saw his parents liking Diana and wanted to do what he could to destroy something they liked to get back at them? Destroy in the sense of pushing Diana away to where she would fail and be seen in a negarive light. All in all, this season was just like the rest and very emotionally drawing. I can't wait for more seasons.

I thought (at least from episode 1 so far) that they did a good job emphasizing her youth and inexperience and how that shaped their relationship*. She didn’t even turn 20 until after their wedding, and she was a “young” 20. He was already in his early 30s and so much worldlier. The inherent balance of power in their relationship, from all factors — age, maturity, his natural sense of entitlement, his position in society, his family — always makes me come down on Diana’s side in the end. I realize she wasn’t perfect, but any one of those factors stacked against you would be a lot, let alone all of them.
When she died, she was only a few years older than Charles had been when they got married.
*not-all-age-differences disclaimer... 13 years is nothing to some relationships, obviously, but clearly not to this one

Did this season have a different director than the others? It feels different. I like the soundtrack this season too.
I didn't realize how fucked up Charles and Diana's relationship was from the start. I have a reinvigorated distain for Charles and Camilla. He couldn't be bothered to give half the attention to his marriage that he gave to Camilla. He's so gross.

The first half of it felt a lot slower than these first few episodes in season 4. But I’m only a few episodes in so maybe I was just bored with season 3 haha.

I do not understand why Charles couldn’t have married Camilla prior to her getting married to her husband. The whole seeing her while she’s married and having kids with another man must be something I’ll never understand because I’m not upper-crust. I feel like the royal family used Diana, chewed her up and spit her out. Charles is the worst. Every season that passes I hate the royal family more. I do enjoy the Margaret story arc, not arch LOL.

I’m so binging season 4 and should go to bed. I am so glad they made Andrew look like a dick right away. I feel horrible for Diana and Charles is a dick.
But I also lived through the whole C&D saga so most of this is not shocking.

She wasn’t considered “suitable” at the time. Apparently she had a party girl image and they were still looking for that whole virgin bride thing

Fireplace is on, I have coffee, and I told myself I can watch this one episode while DS is at preschool, and then I should do some chores. 🙃

I like Anderson as Thatcher, except she seems much older than mid-50s. I guess in the late 70s, 54 year old women looked prematurely old?
I felt sort of bad for Charles in the previous season, as his family torpedoed his relationship with Camilla. But now he’s just acting like an ass. I’d forgotten how young Diana was when they met.

Thatcher at that age was (slightly, lol) softer looking and her voice sounded normal. She’s a great actress, though. Her reactions are so good.

Whew, this queen is bitchy and passive-aggressive 😂 (“Some people just don’t feel at home at Balmoral. I don’t get it”)
