I'm equal parts ready to leave October behind and shocked it is already November.

Yesterday was MIL's birthday so we spent the day with BIL/SIL/their kids at MIL's house. It was fun and hopefully just what she needed on her first birthday without FIL.
My mom is back in surgery again this morning. There's a large blood clot in the area they did surgery and it is pressing on nerves causing pain to go down both of her legs. She's been in excruciating pain since her first surgery last Tuesday. They did a CT last Wednesday and noticed the clot. An MRI over the weekend showed that it was not improving so they scheduled surgery this morning to go back in and clean up the clot. I'm so scared she'll have another complication or her recovery will be extensive due to everything she's been through. Trying to take it one day at a time but it is hard. She's going to have to spend 10-14 days at a rehab place for acute therapy and that has my anxiety through the roof as well, due to covid. And my sister told me yesterday that there are several covid cases at the nursing home where my Grandma is. It's all too much.

CoachTsWife The biggest hugs for you. Under normal circumstances, it's already so much on your shoulders and what you and your family have been going through. Good healing thoughts and sending good medicine for your mom's recovery and for you as well! One foot in front of the other. You got this.

DS is taking a test now so I just popped in to profess my love for Dr. Fauci. I've been wanting to say many months ago that the poor guy's been sent to the WW basement and that he's fed-up and speaking out now. I feel so bad for him being stuck in between a rock and a hard place for so long. The election is such a ridiculous fanfare and fuck Trump for enabling and encouraging vile behaviours. On the other hand, maybe he is doing a good thing by having all these ignorant racist biggots step out from under their hypocritical rock.

Taitai I agree with you in the other thread regarding the nation being conscientious of their elders. A huge population of Thais are also Buddhist aren't they? DS just read a kids autobiography of the Dalai Lama by the 14th DL himself! I wonder if it has a lot to do with their beliefs and way of life in terms of respect and compassion. I think the ideology of freedom in America has become corrupt. They have instilled the notion of individualism which is IMO too much and too deep. Don't get me wrong, I think there are many good qualities in that however I keep going back to the thought of "moderation" to keep the balance and in essence this notion applies to everything in the universe. I am also bitter and angry at this point with selfish people who disregard pubic health and safety orders. DS is learning about rules and laws and why we have them and I tell him that essentially rules and laws are in place to keep people safe. It's starting to become difficult to keep explaining to him why other people aren't wearing masks, kids playing outside in large groups, having parties whilst we have to stay at home and unable to visit places.

CoachTsWife also your boys are precious! danvers I wish the boys wouldn't have wild ideas although lil fella on Tuesday told me he wanted to be a kitty cat and it was too late to run around looking plus Covid so I scrambled and luckily had enough fabric from DS' costume to cobble up his kitty cat outfit. Originally he was going to get DS' hand me down Yoda costume but he refused and he is one opinionated child and I know better than to argue him. Hopefully he'll want to be Chameleon next yr. Taitai I just remembered that after Halloween last year DS said he wanted to be Snoopy and I was like sure and lil fella can be woodstock. Maybe I can convince them next year. DS loves watching Peanuts too, not sure what that says about me hah!

My mom's surgery yesterday seems to have been successful. There was a "huge hematoma" (surgeon's words) that was removed, as well as a smaller one - they were pressing on nerves from opposite sides. I called the charge nurse this morning before shift change and it seems like her nerve pain has eased and she's mostly experiencing pain from surgery. I can't wait to go see her after work and hopefully find her even more improved. It has been incredibly hard to see her so miserable and in so much pain all last week and over the weekend. She isn't out of the woods but I feel some of my worry and anxiety starting to dissipate. FX she keeps improving.

duskymonkey your boys will so appreciate the labor and love of those costumes later. My grandma sewed all my crazy hair-brained costumes, like a head-to-toe Orca/killer whale outfit when I was 9. 😂 CoachTsWife thoughts for your mom and that she continues to improve!!

We started the girls back up in swim lessons (not in our crazy covid county though!). Everyone (including the life guard, swim instructor, and one parent watching) wear masks except for the two kids in the swim class. I felt like I was trying to make reservations at Disney with only two kids per class but both girls got back-to-back time slots!!!
It’s crazy that this county takes COVID-19 precautions so seriously but my county just south flaunts around like it’s all norma with nary a regulation or make in sight.

CoachTsWife I’m glad to hear that the surgery went well, and I hope that your mother’s condition only improves. I wish I could do something for you across the Pacific. You and your family have been through so much. Please know that I’m keeping your mom in my thoughts and prayers. Also - your boys looked super cute in their Halloween outfits. I love the dino costume 💕 danvers Exciting news about your kids being able to find a swim program that has good social distancing policies in place. Hope it’s a fun activity for the girls these next few months. duskymonkey Yep - Most people here are Buddhist, I think like 92%. That might have a impact on the general deference/respect for elders. I think that Asia in general also tends to be culturally more respectful and deferential to elders, which can be good and bad. In the pandemic, it’s certainly been helpful to keep COVID infection rates low in many countries, as there are so many multigenerational homes and people are very focused on doing what they can to limit local transmission. The deference towards elders can also be more problematic, however, when it comes to societies being progressive or respecting human rights/democratic values. China is a big example of how a more elder-focused/autocratic society can basically result in freedom getting squashed. So, there’s good and bad. I think the USA has swung much too far towards individualism above all else - which has severely impacted many people from having empathy towards others. And we see that playing out with COVID numbers out of control and a highly polarized social/political situation. It’s not good. Wish there could be more of a compromise there - taking the best of both cultures. Sigh.

It’s daytime for us over here, and H and I are watching the election results come in with concern and worry. Ugh - I was really hoping there would be a decisive win and that it wouldn’t be a nail-biter. I knew logically that this could happen, but I still am surprised that it’s so close....Basically every single person I know over here is like - what is wrong with the USA? How can you guys even entertain having Trump as your president for another 4 years? And I’m just like....🤷♀️🤷♀️...it’s been a long time since I’ve lived in the USA. I feel the country has changed so much over the past 10 years.

You aren't alone in those thoughts Taitai . I just....don't know what to say. I don't understand how anyone can support him. Our state reelected our governor (a big Trump guy) and I can't stand him either. He has handled covid so poorly and I feel so discouraged that he got reelected. We live in a red state so I'm not terribly shocked, I suppose. But def disappointed. Sigh.

My American friends I am stressed on your behalf. I have my fingers crossed for a quick resolution but as of 4pm est the day after the election it doesn’t look that way.
Moving away from COVID and the election, I’m transitioning DD2 to a big bed away from the crib with the toddler rail in the hopes she will sleep in her own bed. I may buy a baby gate to secure her in there. She spends every night in our bed and it’s for most of the night. I need her out. I’m having a lot of fun decorating and spending time learning about interior design. And last week DH finally got his COVID delayed appointment for his vasectomy. I’m having some feelings about it but it’s the right decision.

Hi everyone! I can't believe it's already November. Daycare is still up and running. We are almost done with soccer for the season. M loves swim class. AND we start puppy 2.0 with our crazy girl this weekend. She's 6.5 months, probably 60-65 lbs. I'd like to believe she's on the smaller end of her breed (newfoundland) which is good because she's got a lot of crazy puppy energy. CoachTsWife, I hope your mom recovers and it's nice you are able to spend time with her August Blooms, M still sleeps with us. It's hard. Decorating is fun though. I hope your DD is able to stay the night in her own bed! I'll take all the tips!! Taitai, this election is something. Not sure how people are ok with wanting trump for another 4 years. danvers, we've been back in swim for a couple months. We moved up to the swimtots class so I don't have to go in the water with DD anymore! It's amazing how quickly they learn. Masks are mandatory there. The coaches wear face shields in the water. duskymonkey, it's frustrating seeing big gatherings of people with no masks. We went to vote on Tuesday and the volunteers handing out the sample ballots/info weren't wearing masks! I just don't get it. It's not that hard.

SIL is throwing a huge combined bday party for our nephews tomorrow. Inflatables, games... the works. We are not going. Everyone on that side is ticked because we’re doing swim lessons and in person school/daycare so “why not come to the party then?!?!”
MIL and FIL are “staying out of it” to keep peace between H and SIL.
Our state’s numbers continue to rise and our county is still one of the worst in the US. While we feel safe about our choice to do swim lessons (a literal class of two kids and a masked instructor) and we have zero choice about school and daycare because jobs - going to a party with 50+ people seems crazy to me still .. 🤬😑🤬😑🤬

I very much would love to do swim lessons. The local swim place near us looks like it sees a lot of students and also has 0 covid regulations on its website which makes me a little sketch.

Maybe call them and ask what they are doing to prevent the spread etc. Could be the website isn't updated.

danvers Ugh, your SIL continues to be the worst. I remember you saying years ago how he let he kids - including a toddler - play unsupervised in a blowup pool outside. Her judgment is horrific. I’d really not like having to deal with someone like that in my family. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for not going to that party - it’s your decision and not theirs. August Blooms Getting special big boy beds was the key to getting DS1 and DS2 to STTN in their own, separate beds and rooms. When that happened, I swear the quality of H’s and my lives improved SO MUCH. Good luck as you pick something out and decorate! I am a big fan of the IKEA SUNDVIK bed, as it’s cozy, easy to get in/out of, and adjustable in length. codex320 Heyyyy!! So nice to hear from you, and that’s really exciting news about the new pup! I love Newfoundland’s - it goes perfectly with your SN! Enjoy the new puppy, and glad to hear all is going well with M! cythe Swimming lessons are great, and a good thing about them is that COVID doesn’t transmit very easily in chlorinated water (as long as the pool is properly chlorinated). I hope you find something that works for E! Maybe that place by you is lazy and haven’t updated their website?

I hope everyone had a good weekend! We had beautiful unseasonably warm weather and it’s continuing for a few more days.
And then today I found out I’m accidentally pregnant again. I’m not going to go into details about the how but it was very very unlikely to happen and somehow it did. So we are just processing now and I think DH will go ahead and get his vasectomy done in 2 weeks and we will let whatever happen happen.

Crazy timing too - especially since you were talking about having your H get a V so recently. When did you find out? Thinking of you, and if you want to - please keep us updated. Hugs 🤗

Whelp - my hopes that decreased economic activity from COVID might somehow stave off the air pollution season over here doesn’t seem to be panning out. It’s been red and orange levels the past few days, which has been a real bummer. Time to switch out the nice, breathable cotton masks for the N99 ones (which block out PM 2.5). Ugh - they are so much more of a pain to wear. At least we were able to stock up on the filters for those, so we will be set for this pollution season, which typically runs through March/April.
In happier news, DS1 is going on his first ever field trip later this week. I’m so excited and I can’t believe he’s old enough to be doing a field trip! He is really looking forward to it, so I hope the AQI isn’t too bad during the outing.

Wow August Blooms! Thinking of you. We have had unseasonably warm weather as well. I mowed the yard for the last time (again - I thought the previous time was the last time, lol) yesterday. It was in the 70s and that is NOT normal for November here. It was like this pretty much all last week and we get another warm day today and then we return to normal weather. Taitai bummer about the air quality. I've been wondering about the impact of COVID on our environment. It will be interesting to study down the road. My mom was moved to a rehab floor at a different hospital on Friday. She's getting 3 hours of PT each day which should help her tremendously. Covid numbers in our area continue to rise and her new hospital is refusing visitors starting today. I'm sad I can't pop in to see her but also really glad because she'll be safer this way. We are hopeful she can go home in a week or so.

August Blooms we’re here for whatever you need. I’m sure it’s a lot of emotions and things to process. Taitai trust that teachers love field trips too. I mean, the continual counting of kids, checking of time, and whatever else is daunting but it really is fun (and simultaneously exhausting)for teachers too! I hope he has a great time! CoachTsWife I hope your mom continues to improve and can go home soon!

My student teacher is teaching math and reading this week so school is really easy right now for me. I basically go sit in the back of the room and glare at kids not listening, grade papers, surf the internet...
She will take over full time each day in the Spring but it’s so nice not to do anything for 3 hours each morning this week. I feel like I finally have some energy for DD1 and DD2 afterschool today!

Thanks for the support guys! Luckily, although I don’t know if that’s the right word, I’ve been through this situation before. I’ve already had to process through the emotions and it’s really not the worst thing. I was looking forward to significantly lowering my daycare bills and never changing a diaper again! Our marriage is also in a much better place than the last time this happened and that’s helping. 2020 really is a crazy year. If it is a viable pregnancy then I’m really dreading telling my sister, she found out last month that at age 35 she is in ovarian failure and going into early menopause and her only option is donor eggs or adoption. Taitai I found out Sunday, my period was a few days late. Thanks IPhone for checking in on me! I was a little nauseous, my coworker was a little smellier than usually and my boobs hurt. That’s when I was like 😱 and thinking no way but picked up a pregnancy test and some pads just in case.
