Does anyone absolutely love a particular brand of girls underwear?
I LOVE Baby Gap toddler underwear, but it only goes to to size 4-5. It's soft, thick cotton and A says it's so comfy. But it seems that everything in the size 6+ category goes to really thin cotton that isn't very good quality. A even asked for new, bigger underwear that was just like the Baby Gap style. Does that exist?
Also, R needs bigger ones and she needs full coverage, if you KWIM. I hate that things go from 8 to 10-12... Like, what about the 9yos?? I'm feeling very lost at this stage

I don't have a brand, but have ended up with boyshorts for both my girls. We've owned multiple styles and they both gravitate toward that because they don't cut in the way that more traditional undies do. Once I settled on boyshorts I been successful just buying whatever looks good on Amazon or Target.

I never tried babygap, but our Hanna Andersson underwear is tagless, smooth and thick cotton.
I got it on a GREAT sale when H was barely PTed and his size wasn't on sale so I bought for the future - and some for M, who was like 2 and NOT PTed. Lol. They're both wearing them now (M and S I think?) and they like them the best.

We have these from Amazon in multiple sizes. I think they run a *teeny bit* small. R’s currently in the 6’s and she’s only 40 pounds. She gets wedgies from all the other styles we tried from the big brands (Cat and Jack, Hanes)

Following because I had J buy undies for Nugget at the store and gave him brand recommendations and told him not to buy the thin cheapie character ones and he came home with a big pack of thin cheapie underwear without characters on it.

I hate shopping for underwear, especially girls underwear! L is just now in big girl sizes and we tried Hanna Andersson (hipster style), Carters, and Disney with the thicker waist elastic (hipster). The Carters fit her body shape the best. The Hannas are nice and thick material but the shape is just a little off on her. She still wears them, they just don't fit like a glove. And the Disney ones suck. Her crack hangs out because they're so low-rise.
It's such a trial and error. I feel ya!

But they're thick, too.

Is the preference for thickness to help prevent wedgies or something else I am missing? I always pick the thinnest ones available for my kids so they don't get all bunchy or weird under their clothes.

I would love to know this about kid sizing in general. R is busting out of half her size 8 jeans, but the 10s are too big. She's got an athletic build and a booty that needs covered, but she's 50th %tile for height, with a long torso. I feel like she's impossible to shop for

Everyone's butts are different sizes though. I feel like it's pretty common for people to have mismatch top/bottoms, especially underwear which i supposed to be tight, versus pants which probably just have an elastic or common sized waist, which is easier to deal with. I'd try buying her something else. If they're too big, they will fit in a few years?

I’ve bought her probably 6 different types of undies in different sizes in the last 6 months and she hates them all. She also has this issue with swim suits. And socks. I also hate all undies, which is why I only wear thongs. Everything else gives me wedgies. But I think she’s too young for that lol.

That’s why I was asking - trying to figure out whether to size up to 10’s or if I just keep buying the wrong style.

tj, could it be the elastic around the thigh? Or around her belly? I've totally personally had underwear that is the "right" size, but cuts in in a weird way. M is super sensitive to those things, which is how we ended up on boyshorts for her.

But it’s really anything being even close to “tight.”I suggested boy shorts to her but got frustrated on sizing and gave up lol.

I wish it was all more reliable. I'd try a 10, I think, if I were you. It sounds crazy, but if it stays up, it's a good start.

I decided to try some Hanna Andersson organic cotton ones since they are on sale. Of course, A is right between sizes, but I got a set of Small and Med to see what fits better, and 2 Larges (one of each style for R).

So, the consensus is that they are very comfy, but also very high waisted. R has a bubble bum and prefers the regular bikini cut (not the wider brief). Got her the Large. Edit: and A says they are comfy. I got her the Small, and they fit, so we have a medium for down the road. I'm pleased with the thickness of the cotton. They look gigantic, but somehow fit well. And no more butt crack showing, so that's a win

Just dragging up another old thread. Bc my kids still have undie issues. I sized up to the 10’s for P and they were too big. So E took them. But now she’s grown out of those. She’s JUST turned 9, and apparently needs size 12 undies? But she wears an 8 in shorts/pants? And she’s super petite other than a bubble booty. None of it makes sense!
Um, does anyone else’s girl go commando? I asked my IRL mom friends what brands their kids wear, and 2/3 said they just don’t anymore. I was kinda blinky white guy.

No advice on underwear brands bc L has never complained about her Walmart or Target undies. She complains enough about her brother to make up for it.
Anyway, she's gone commando to the playground a couple times inadvertently bc she dressed herself, but I personally wouldn't knowingly let her go out of the house commando. Edit: I did get her size 8 undies to prevent red marks from the elastic (like an ill fitting CD LOL), and she's in 6/6x pants. I just assumed they run small.

M def wears bigger underwear (8) than clothes (6). She's 5.
So are 8s too small for P, but 10s are too big? That's super annoying and I guess I'd branch out into a bunch of other brands.

On a related note, at what age/grade would you switch a boy from character briefs to something more “grown up?” (Solid colors, boxer briefs, etc.) My kid truly doesn’t notice or care what he’s wearing, but he’s not athletic and kind of awkward and if I can easily eliminate something that would hurt him socially I’ll take it, especially since he’s not attached to his Spider-Man undies.

I feel like third grade is that pivotal year between little little and big little.

Oops, I just bought my 9 year old more minecraft briefs. I also got a pack of plain colored ones. I guess I'll see which he prefers. But we're weird unsocialized homeschoolers, so maybe take that with a grain of salt.

I am P.. I buy my underwear bigger than my pants size. I feel like women’s underwear is made to be so tight. I need to breathe!
I’m also blinky white guy at all of the commando children.
