It will be 3 years for most of us this month. It’s kind of crazy to think about how much our O17 babies have changed - and the world for that matter - since 3 years ago this month.
Excited to hear about birthdays, Halloween costumes, and fall-themed things this month!

Its DD2’s birthday today and I can’t believe it’s been 3 years! We are having a party-not-party tomorrow with just my parents. Her big gift was a bike w/ training wheels so she could be like her big sister. 😊

Oh wait...there are a few more belated birthdays for CoachTsWife and I am sorry I forgot but there were other early babies. Happy birthday!! Anyways in the middle of working on lil fella's cake. Waiting for frosting to chill a bit in the fridge and going to attempt something new. I should probably stick with what I know but I like experimenting and punishing myself lol! Anyways also in the middle of modeling marzipan stuff for the cake. Train is almost finished, just need wheels, Kiwi birds are done but thinking I need some more details? need the fruit, maybe a tuatara lol! and a bunch of misc. stuff. Gonna be a long night. The boys better STTN.

Super rainy here today, but that is to be expected in October over here. I remember almost 3 years ago we were worried we couldn’t get to the hospital, due to flooded streets from a 30 year record rainfall overnight. Man that was crazy. Last night, the water was thigh deep on our street....when walking on the sidewalk. And when cars drove by, the splashing made the water go up to people’s waists! Ugh - all that dirty water. I feel bad our nanny had to go somewhere and walk in that. Luckily we could stay home and avoid it.
Tomorrow is mor rain; planning to take the kids to an indoor play area. Should get their energy out and give us something fun to do at least!

duskymonkey I’m thankful my DD2 asks for mermaid cupcakes because trains and kiwis would all be too much for me! You’re so talented and your boys will have such great memories down the road of their special cakes! Taitai indoor play areas... I vaguely remember taking children to those 😂 I’m pretty sure with the way most are acting in the US those won’t open again for a lot of us till at least 2021. The girls got to run in a XC meet today. Our school system sponsors running clubs for PreK-6th grade. They did a great job at spacing spectators out, masks were required for everyone (runners took them off right before their race), and no awards were given at the event so people were encouraged to leave as soon as the race was over. It was so cool for DD1 to represent the elementary school the two of us are at, and DD2 actually got to run and represent our local PreK since she just turned 3 yesterday 😂

We are awaiting Covid testing for DD1 who got a tummy ache on Thursday and puked in the parking lot of our Dr that we were visiting for a unrelated reason. It was a one off and she was feeling better two hours later when she skipped into the testing center. The province updated the guidelines for test that day but it hadn’t rolled out to schools and daycares so we had to get a test. It was a one off and she had no illness or fever after the barf and a short nap. So then DH brought a cold home and since we are already waiting for our Covid test we are just hanging out waiting for all this to pass.
We are supposed to have Thanksgiving this weekend but with the spike in cases the government is telling people to keep their circles and us with this cold I don’t think we are going to be doing anything.

August Blooms , sheesh... I would be all nerves. Hoping it all comes back negative. Didn't you all just got tested recently too? I think this year isn't a year for any sort of gathering...we're definitely not going to see family for Christmas. It's too risky even if we could travel and give CV to my in-laws. They're almost 90! I am sure they're sad but absolutely understand. I was chatting with my cousin in BC and she said the same that cases were rising again. Hoping you all can rein it in. It's crazily OOCC here. Gah!

danvers that's great that you were able to do some outdoor stuff like that. I was really looking forward to joining the 100 mile club at DS' school when he started 1st grade but sadly that is cancelled and also no in-person school for him very likely the entire school year so no sports of any sort Also was going to have him start cub scouts too. Hubs was/is? an Eagle scout and it will be great to have him get into it like his dad too. Dunno? I met the leader last year and they have a very small local group just in our township so maybe I should reach out and see what they are up to. My nephew loves it and is so proud of his badges.

cythe, everything good with E in school? I know you had a scare but sounds like it was taken care of quickly. You're feeling better about getting a little bit of me time while she's in school? Also what network is GBBS on? I don't have cable and it was on PBS before but I haven't seen any new shows for quite a long while. I adore that show!

curmudgeon I think a T-ball is a great idea. Maybe I should get one for kids too for Christmas? I was actually thinking of getting them a climbing geodesic dome... We got lil fella a VLB collection of stories. He's been obsessed with Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel ( we have a story treasury book which the story is in ) and he was sooooo excited, jumping up and down when he opened his present and saw Mike Mulligan on the cover. I was surprised he didn't ask that for his cake. Kids are weird. If anyone doesn't know that book, highly highly recommend it and along with the rest of VLB books. They are after all long standing classics for a reason. i also don't mind reading it a million times a day which is what we'd been doing. DS kept borrowing it from his school library multiple times last year too. We also went shopping in the basement for more trains! No kidding I think we might have the entire Thomas and friends at this point. Not sure if I mentioned, I scored a box of train stuff last year including a Tidmouth shed for like $50 so we've been giving them out to the boys for birthdays and Christmas' lol! They don't care that some are a little beaten up. We still have a box full of it including the giant Tidmouth shed.

So we had a virtual birthday with my family this past weekend and because we were facing the iPad, I didn't take any pictures wahhhh! I have pics of him eating his cake later but no video or pictures...I am super sad. Hubs never never remembers to do anything of that sort and it all falls on me and I already had too much to deal with the kids and keeping them from smashing the cake or setting themselves on fire. Anyways I managed to snap some pics of the cake after I got it finished right before our call and as they were finishing up lunch. It wasn't what I had intended but I was able to salvage and fix it in the morning lol! Too tired and ran out of time to paint the Kiwi feathers butI am pretty happy with the sheep. It was fun and exhausting experimenting. I also made cupcakes and DS helped me put together grab bags to pass on to the kids. They did have a blast. I am sure I had some neighbours eye rolling us outside with our masks and all especially the one who had a party a few weeks ago - whatever selfish ignorant imbeciles.

They release episodes weekly, as opposed to all at once per Netflixs' usual MO. School is great, Ev is doing well. So far no further spread from the child who had Covid. She is doing PT remotely now since the therapist is quarantined.

duskymonkey That cake looks amazing - you’d be crazy to think otherwise! Wow - I’m so impressed. Glad that the virtual party went well, and I think your plans for the holidays sound really nice. Way to go on that Tidman’s shed! My boys would LOVE something like that, if only I could find it at the Japanese second hand stores here....On the bright side, we do find a lot of really cool used Tomica stuff. The boys don’t care one but that it’s used. As long as it works and is in good condition! August Blooms Sorry about the COVID testing again! That is a huge pain. Fingers crossed you get your results back soon. I also understand about no big family get togethers for Thanksgiving- I hope your own little family unit can still have a nice day.

My baby turns 1 tomorrow and then DS turns 3 on Monday! All of my family except me ended up with mild colds this week so DD was home from school for 3 days. They all have negative Covid tests back and as soon as she is symptom free she can go back to school. It’s thanksgiving weekend here so monday is a holiday, hopefully by Tuesday she’ll be good to go. We are doing a small thanksgiving on Monday with my parents and sister/BIL/niece (they are our only real cohort that we see unmasked/indoors) and an outdoor distanced/take out get together for an hour tomorrow afternoon with DH’s family. Only me and the baby can attend that one in person because everyone else still has mild symptoms and we don’t want to pass the cold to MIL and make her miss chemo or to our nieces/nephews who would have to miss school. The rest of my family is going to drop me off and wave from the car 🤷🏻♀️. Work has been ridiculously busy when I’m there (tues-thurs) but we are settling into a good routine with DH on parental leave.

Hallelujah the test finally came back negative and no one is sick. My mom and sister are ok with the risk so we are going over tomorrow for thanksgiving. We will try to leave early and be outside for a bit even though the temperature will be firmly the low teens. I’ve been spending all my monies on my down time buying stuff to decorate the house. I’m getting into plants and this is my new baby.

August Blooms and doodlemommy Happy Thanksgiving weekend! I am glad that both of you will be able to spend some time with family, and yay for the negative COVID tests! doodlemommy - Wow, I also can’t believe your baby is already 1! How mobile is he? Walking yet? Glad to hear you are getting into a routine with your H being on parental leave. August Blooms Oooh - I love that plant! Is it mother-in-law’s tongue? Maybe that is not a plant name in the USA, but it definitely is the name of a plant that looks similar out where I am! We have a bunch in our house, because they are supposed to be particularly good at improving air quality (for a plant). Hope you both enjoy the family time and eat lots of tasty things. Anything dishes you are preparing or really looking forward to having?

Man August Blooms, whats it like to have plants? I have 4 cats, is it remotely green? Better eat it! Grape vines? Check. Pineapple tops? Check. Any flowers ever? Check. That plant is beautiful and honestly the picture looks like it could be something out of a magazine

Taitai Same plant but it’s also called a snake plant here too. I’m not sure what’s on the menu, I usually bake an apple crisp and make a yummy bacon Brussel sprouts dish but since I’m working all weekend my mom and sister are taking care of everything. I’m assuming it’s the usual menu of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. cythe Pineapple tops? Lol thats crazy! I think this plant is pet friendly but if your cats go after pineapple tops I get why you don’t introduce any. So that pic is from the business. It’s actually ingenious, they run a FB and IG pages, post the plants, etransfer the money and you pick up from their porch. So I guess they buy from a green house and have a source for the cute planters. I’m actual jealous I haven’t come up with the idea.

We are trying potty training again, and so far its not going well. I understand why I didnt do this when my mom wanted to try a few months ago. She wont go on the potty. She likes to sit on it fully dressed, but gets mad when you take her pants down.
Then of course, once you do get her naked and sitting on it she won't do anything. I just spent all morning taking her to the potty every hour only for her to literally not go until I put a pull up on her to pop out and get lunch. I feel like she would be pretty food (treat) motivated once I can get her to actually pee on the damn thing but she just... wont.

August Blooms that is a nice looking plant! I always forget to add greenery when decorating, and I really don’t know how to care for plants. I had an orchid once that died. But that snake plant is so pretty I may have to try again.

But that snake plant is so pretty I may have to try again. I have an unkillable money tree that I have had for almost 10 years and this one is supposed to be fairly easy to care for. I have killed many orchids in my day. I am marginally better with outside plants.

It is sooooo rainy here - 3 monsoons in a row have come in, and it’s just been rain, rain, rain for over a week! There has been flash flooding up north and I think a dam broke the other day...another one is dangerously close to capacity. I really hope it eases up soon. Reminds me of the lead up to when DS2 was born.
H and I made an chocolate Oreo whipped cream cake for DS2 today, and it looked so good. We really wanted to eat it, but self control won out. I think DS2 is going to be super happy with it. He is a cake monster. Just need to wrap his presents and then we’ll have a nice little, low key birthday celebration tomorrow.

DD2 has entered the whiniest of whiney phases this month and I.am.over.it. My sweet and cuddly, Usually very independent little toddler is apparently lost but I’m hoping she returns soon because the whining cries may do me in.
Also - I want house plants. I even have Pinterest boards for hard-to-kill ones. I want some for my classroom too.
I hope everyones littles are having happy birthdays even if it all looks a little different this year!
