So my 9yo DD is definitely entering puberty already. It makes sad for lots of reasons. But my question is: are there exfoliates that are safe for children? She uses Cerave cleanser but still gets pimples (becoming more frequent lately) and I just noticed blackheads on her chin today too. I don’t want her to be embarrassed by her skin but I also don’t want her to think it’s a huge deal.
I had terrible skin from about 12 until college or later so I might be projecting a bit. I don’t want her to feel self-conscious but I also don’t want her to end up like I did. Help.

Is it the SA cleanser? I just switched from the regular one to the SA one for my 10yo. That and a muslin cloth to exfoliate 2x a day plus moisturizer at night and sunscreen in AM. Helped a lot.
We haven't looked at stronger stuff yet.

I think toners are out now. Dry your skin out and cause irritation? I watch way to much skincare videos but still have no idea.
Cerave salicylic acid cleanser is what I was refrencing. It is more drying but helps the breakouts. I paired that with a cotton muslin cloth for the light exfoliation. Ive seen her have less pimples and smoother skin. But there is a learning curve and I had to do a lot of reminding and education for my kiddo.

I had acne as a tween and my mom and I tried so much. It really affected my self esteem. Finally after a few miserable years she took me to the doctor about it and all I needed was a prescribed cream and later on the pill helped too. It made a huge difference, basically life changing. I promised myself after that, that I would take my kids to the dermatologist right away. So that would be my suggestion to you as well if you feel it's more than a few pimples every once in awhile.

I also had horrible skin from about 12, on and off until I was 30ish. Middle school was the worst, I can vividly remember one of my best friends asking me in front of a big group why I had so many pimples. Starting on a BC pill around 15 helped immensely. I think it's great that you are trying to help her without making it a big thing.

I third the suggestion of a derm if you can! Helped me a ton when I was a teen.

My blackheads/pores have been amazing since starting a double cleanse. Do an oil (DHC cleanser) then follow with a Cerave in the evening. Make sure you wash each for 30+ seconds and rinse. Add a light moisturizer. At such a young age, I doubt she needs much, just a good and consistent routine.
