DS has a friend stay over last night. They were up 1/2 the night lol. I’ve got waffle batter ready to go and bacon in the oven. They are still zonked out.

DD’s COVID test was negative!! Her strep culture came back positive. So there’s some weird strain of strep going around that the rapid test doesn’t pick up. She needs at least one dose of Amoxi and then she can go back to daycare! Woo hoo!

Great news sudsy! Was she complaining about a sore throat ? Not at all, but they did notice it was red and swollen on her exam. That’s why they sent for culture when the rapid came back negative.

But all three times I’ve had strep in the past two or so years all three the rapid came negative and only positive when sent out. So it could be the rapids just aren’t super good at it.

Haircut for H, a bike ride, making some sort of bread the 12YO wants to make to bring to youth group, cleaning the fridge, cleaning the van, working on a shawl, and prepping for the week is on tap for today.

H leaves for a week tomorrow and I'll be distance learning with the two kids (7 & 5) solo for the first time - Dd2 was doing a pod thing at daycare that ended up not working out.
I'm going to try to do some prep today to try to make the week go more smoothly.

DS2 hasn't had a haircut since February and asked last night if he could get it cut today. I'm so happy. I it is such a mop right now but he wanted to grow it out. We're going to go to the barber then to target to look at Halloween decorations. I bought some cute fabric yesterday so I'm going to make pajamas for the boys and a couple of masks.

But then I hear anecdotes like this and I’m just like...

We’ve had a good morning so far. DH brought me coffee in bed when he got home. We’re up now and getting ready to go hike a little. It’s definitely fall here!

My FB memories reminded me that this weekend is normally Polish Fest. Instead of wallowing in sadness I have decided to make pierogis today and have my own fest.

I did my hair and makeup in the first time in forever.
I’m just going to the grocery store but I feel like my mental health needed a boost.

By Saturday afternoon my throat was so swollen dh was like wtf and took me to the er. It hurt to just live never mind swallow or even have ice cream. The drs at the hospital said it was the strongest infection they had seen and were doing neck and throat X-rays to see if it was deeper or something else. Luckily it was just strep. I was on Percocet for like three days and three weeks of antibiotics. I didn’t get out of bed for a few days. Worst ever. Tuesday (it was a long weekend) dr office called to say the culture was positive I was like yeah thanks!

This is the first week of Zoom Sunday school.
We’re cozied up in the basement watching and participating with a box of trinkets and song lyrics from our church. It’s really cool, how they’ve adapted.

I went out to get my grocery delivery this morning, and someone had left some Biden/Harris stickers on our screen door, with a note that said “love your sign, keep up the good fight.” (We have a BLM sign in the front.) So that was a really nice start to my morning!

She needs at least one dose of Amoxi and then she can go back to daycare! Woo hoo! Good! The last time one of my kids had strep, the peds UC said they have been just going ahead and treating based on symptoms because the rapid test is much less reliable than it used to be. They also said they’re seeing a lot less acute throat pain with it, so scarlet fever cases (including DS1) have grown exponentially in the last year or so.

This happens to DD every time. She had strep like 8x in a year and never complained of a sore throat. So glad it’s not COVID!

Fuuuck. I forgot Zoom Sunday school again. I set an alarm for their Wednesday night stuff. I should do it for Sunday too. Ours has really adapted well too. They dropped us off a box of choral bells and then on Tuesday nights, they email us a simple list of activities that the kids do together via Zoom on Wednesday nights. The boys have really come to enjoy it.
