Light school schedule today. I need to find slippers for the kids and place an Instacart order. The kids got their drive thru flu shots last night, and even with the promise of happy meals and cake pops, Charlie got so angry after his shot. It was like we betrayed him. He’s never been upset or angry over shots or the doctor before, so I’m guessing he needed the experience of walking into the office and the whole warming up process, and he would have been fine. I will gave to remember for future visits.

Morning! guster Sorry that C got so upset. I’ve read people love the drive through flu shot, but I can see it not going well for M. He has come to hate shots, so I could see it being difficult for him. I’m up and at work for a few hours doing temp screening. Not much planned for the rest of the day.

Morning!
B is off to school so I may take C to the mall later, she needs more play clothes in the next size up. We're in that awkward time of year here where stores have started stocking long-sleeves, etc. but it's still really warm out, so it's hard to shop. I want fall-ish looking stuff with short-sleeves, is that so hard? LOL.
DH and I leave next Wednesday and I wouldn't mind a couple things for our trip...didn't shop much this summer for myself...so maybe C will help me with that.

Morning! I'm at work today. Random, but there was a little boy named Nico at the park last week and now the kids INSIST that A's name is Nico and they call him that all day long. It's very strange, though Nico is a cute name.

Morning! SSDD here. I went into the office yesterday, so I don't have to worry about that today. Hoping to get all caught up on work. This week has been crazy.

Did you keep him out due to Covid, or something else? We have a league here that starts playing in late fall. It's hypocritical of me b/c I am a huge football fan, but I don't love the idea of tackle football for kids. So I was thinking flag was a good compromise. But I wonder if he's going to play flag and fall in love and want to level up, KWIM? Maybe I am overthinking. B loves basketball, but I'm concerned it won't be offered this year (the churches in our area that offer it didn't do soccer this fall, which I feel like is even 'safer' from a Covid-spread standpoint since it's outdoors). So I was looking for something for the winter. He's doing golf and I may sign him up for tennis starting next month once DH leaves. I guess I'm just trying to keep him busy while DH is gone b/c I feel like he is going to be the most affected of the 3 of us. eta: sorry for the brain dump

Yes, that is my reasoning, too (concussions). My dad played football thru college and is a huge fan, but says with what we know about CTE, etc. he wouldn't let his kids play now. I think I'm ok with flag--it doesn't seem much rougher than soccer, IMO--but I wonder if it's Pandora's box.

M was supposed to play this year, but I decided against it. I’ve signed him up for tennis once a week. Did you keep him out due to Covid, or something else? We have a league here that starts playing in December, season runs thru mid-Feb. I willingly admit it's hypocritical of me b/c I am a HUGE football fan, but I don't love the idea of tackle football for kids. So I was thinking flag was a good compromise. But I wonder if he's going to play flag and fall in love and want to level up, KWIM? B loves basketball, but with it being indoors I'm concerned it won't be offered this year (the churches in our area that offer it didn't do soccer this fall, which I feel like is even 'safer' from a Covid-spread standpoint). So I was looking for something else for the winter. He's doing golf and I may sign him up for tennis starting next month once DH leaves. I guess I'm just trying to keep him busy while DH is gone b/c I feel like he is going to be the most affected of the 3 of us. eta: sorry for the brain dump Yea- COVID. With school being in person, I don’t need any extra opportunities for him to get sick and be out of school. I also get the not wanting tackle football. I don’t love the idea of either of my boys playing football, but he has been around it so much with Mh’s job and he loves it. There is flag here at starts at 6, so we were going to try that first. If it’s something he really wants to do, I would feel bad keeping him from playing. I have been pushing him to try all sports in hopes he loves something else more than football. He’s good at baseball, so I hope that wins. I was thinking about basketball, too because less people, but yeah, I’m not sure if they will have it.

I was in Kohl's yesterday and saw they had a ton of short sleeve t shirts out. Obv I did not look in the girl section but I was looking for long sleeve T shirts for the boys and kept getting annoyed that everything was short sleeve lol Also, I have a 30% off code for Kohls if you do choose to go there. I got over $200 worth of clothes for the boys and spent $140.

They can golf, tennis, basketball, soccer, baseball, track and any other sport they want.. I'll pay and cheer them on. Football they can play when they move out of my house. I've read to many of those studies. A baseball mom and I were talking at practice and her nephew plays. And he has had 5 concussions. He's 13!

I do agree - I think if he starts with flag and likes it, he will want to continue with tackle. My bff went through this with her boys (preteen age now) and she was thinking the same thing... it's just flag, it's cute, they like it, etc. And then it became their "thing" like their social group was formed around it etc so when it came time to graduate to tackle it was just the next logical step. I went to a game last year and in that one moment I knew it was not for us. I mean, both my boys are tiny so it's unlikely anyway lol.

lahdeedah Yes I imagine it would be hard keeping him away b/c of your H's job. Totally get it, kid--I love it, too! We have two friends who played at the collegiate level and both their (older) elementary-aged boys play and I'm sure the connection to Dad is part of the appeal. peachsmama 5 is a lot. I don't think I would have let me kid keep going after the first couple. I realize concussions can happen falling off a bike/playset or in other sports, but sheesh. jewels thanks for the tip, maybe we'll swing by!

I don't think C even fully knows what football is, we aren't sports people haha! I still remember taking him to his first basketball practice/game when he was 4 and we sat down to watch and MH and I realized we had never even told him what basketball was. He had zero clue. Oops! I'd prefer he not play football though if he ever asked.

L doesn’t really watch sports. We were going to sign him up for soccer in the spring but that didn’t happen. C and I both don’t want him playing football or hockey. E would actually be the one I’m concerned about wanting to play tackle football.

Both my kids want to play soccer. I’m guessing it’s because we started Josie at three and Charlie always watched her in practice, although nothing is running in town. They do always play in the yard and both of them are pretty good at keeping control of the ball. I don’t know if they’ll want to play basketball, but it’s the one of the few sports they really want to watch on tv probably because MH is a fan. Because they’re still relatively young I will keep them trying new things – tennis, golf, horseback riding, and Josie had a really good season of taekwondo so will probably ask both kids to try that again.

I’m w you flamingo, I love football too so feel like a hypocrite bc I would never want C to play (not that he’s expressed any interest). I think a good substitute would be lacrosse- you still get a lot of action and the bodily contact but not as dangerous.

We have “Back to School” zoom at 430 today, which is kind of a weird time. Traditionally I feel like these things are more in the dinner hour when parents are available. I guess they are assuming all parents at remote ?? Then B starts ballet season tonight. I fully intend to peruse the Target aisles ALONE while she is in class and it’s sad how excited I am about that. 😏 guster, where did you get drive up shots? I wouldn’t mind doing that but our ped doesn’t offer that, but if a Walgreens/CVS did, I would be there.

My high school and a few others were *just* getting teams around my junior/senior year, and now it's more widespread. I know up in your region it's even more popular.
