As much as I joke- legitimately, if anyone is interested in EU residency, Portugal is honestly your best bet unless you have a familial link to another EU country. I have done all the paperwork and processing for friends/friends of friends etc. It is not difficult or expensive, but I'm happy to discuss with anyone if you are interested. It's a real and legit option. Easier than Canada. You won't likely find a job here but if you can work remotely you can have a really good life here. This does sound easier than sneaking over the border from ND into Canada and squatting on a friend’s land in New Brunswick. #desperatetimes I mean that's a great plan for escaping the US if you need. But yeah Portugal is a lot warmer than those places. People here adorably wear long down coats in winter and the coldest it gets is like 45F in peak at night in winter. It lasts like 10 days.

They have zero concept of actual cold but then my cousins from Mozambique also think 45F is like -3 F. It's hilarious.

I think I talked about this on GD, but I’ve tried to get residency in Canada and it’s borderline impossible unless you have some deep pockets or a parent who has citizenship. Portugal sounds great!

I'm about to start an Arya* style list. #45, Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, Steve Bannon, Rand Paul, Tom Cotton, Trey Gowdy, Ted Cruz, and so on. *Game of Thrones reference for those who haven't watched

How has Barr not Ben disbarred yet? I know nothing about the process but COME ON. Do no systems function appropriately anymore? So it's actually pretty hard to get disbarred. Because of course it's a group of old white guys in every state that determine disciplinary action once a complaint has been adjudicated. Financial crimes against clients is a more common reason for disbarment. I do not foresee it happening. Ever. I do know that a formal complaint by prominent attorneys was filed with the DC bar in July. So people are trying I just don't see it happening. 😭 😭 😭 but I always appreciate your legal insight!

So yeah, that’s what my sky has looked like all day. I might download tapatalk to show y’all a picture. And iPhones don’t even do it justice because it tries to correct it.
I’m having a bit of a nervous breakdown over it. If I didn’t have massive deadlines at work today and tomorrow I would have gone back to bed.

If I go to a relative or friend's house for a party ever again, before I leave they always ask me to load the dishwasher and I'll fit it all in there.

It’s actually more comfortable wearing my mask right now during a dog walk because of the little bit of ash falling. This is bonkers, and I’m not even that close to the fires (probably about 70 miles.)

Last night was the first of this election season that I had a bad election dream, woke up and then was consumed by anxiety and unable to go back to sleep. This has happened the past few elections but not usually this early. So I ordered more election paraphernalia at 3am. OMG I had one too. There was a big map turning red or blue as states came in, Trump took Florida but Biden took Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. That's all I remember. I ended up waking with a relatively good feeling so at least there's that.

I’m so happy you said this because Mh just lost his job yesterday and I legit told him let’s wait until the election to commit to a new job because if 45 wins, we need to start looking for jobs in EU. Just a few hours ago I thought that if it comes to that, I would ask for help on this board and hope that one of the international ladies here could help. I don’t think MH believes me, but I am not kidding. I believe in signs and I’m taking this post as my sign. 😏 Can you explain the “won’t get jobs”? That’s the only thing. Neither of our jobs are remote so that may crush my dreams. 😕

There are tapes. TAPES from February. I feel like we should be singing "he's never gonna be president now" and yet... I wouldn’t warm up the vocal cords yet. I saw a thing today stating 38% of Americans think we handled the virus better than Canada Sooooo ............⁉️

All of y’all living through these wildfires have been in my thoughts! No lie, between quarantine, staying indoors because of the fires*, an obstinate 3.5 year old and a 9 almost 10 month old currently teething her top four teeth and not sleeping because of it I'm pretty damn close to my breaking point. I'm sure most of it is the lack of sleep but also the realization that we probably won't be able to utilize our backyard or pool anytime soon which is the only thing that gets us "out of the house". Obviously it's all for the greater good but damn if it isn't a lot all at once. *we are not under direct threat but I have friends and family throughout the west coast who are being evacuated because of the various fires

MH is trying to get out of his current industry and there is a job that is his dream job that he is technically qualified for but if you get down to the nitty gritty there’s a tiny bit of a gap in experience. I told him to buck up and act like the white man that he is and apply for things that he might not be 1000000% qualified for. I’m part of the problem. Sorry y’all.

H wants to buy a duplex - quadplex and get into property management. We have some investments and family/partners to make it happen, especially now that the market is kind of falling. If my salary could carry us, he would quit, but his tips are almost double my salary. 🙁

No, sometimes job requirements and qualifications are ridiculous. Sometimes being 85%+ there and a good worker is enough. Just this morning I read a tweet from someone who said he wouldn't be qualified to get a job at a company asking for 4+ years experience with a system, a system he invented two or something years ago. I mean wtfbbq.
